Hey, guys, its me again. :)

Lately, Nibbles has been acting a bit over-protective of me when we go out. If someone walks at me quickly, or makes a sudden move towards me, or sometimes if she just apparently thinks someone is suspicious, she will growl and bark at them. For a little girl, she's got quite the bark. She's always been ok once the people come over to see her, but I just don't feel that that sort of thing should be encouraged. However, I'm a little at a loss for how to make her understand that its not ok. Today, she did it a few times, and I just grabbed her nose and kept her close to me so she couldn't bark, but she kept growling. How do I help her to realiza that she doesn't have to be watching out for mom all the time? I've been trying to just be really friendly with strangers, so she knows *I'm* ok with them, but other than what I've been doing, I'm at a loss, since I don't really want to punish her for it.

Other times, though, she was just fine. She liked most of the people we met today. We ran into a mom and her two little kids (one was probably about 8, and the other about 3 or 4), and Nibbles and Howie were both ANGELS. They both SAT DOWN to be pet by the kids (they both tend to get a little excited and jump up for attention) and Howie was carefully licking spilled ice cream off the littlest girl's shirt. SO CUTE. I was proud of both my babies for being so gentle and sweet with such little kids.

Here are some photos from today! I had my hands full with them when we were out in public, so the only pictures I have are from the car ride. It was also Howie's first time in the car, and on a leash, and in public! He had a BIG first day, and was an absolute champ about everything. :)

Nibbles liked putting her front feet on the center console so she could be "involved" lol.

Howie was nervous about the car at first, and just layed down in the back.

Nibbles kept falling on the floor, but she didn't mind too much.

She also wanted to snoop around to see what the rest of the car was like.

My two kids, hangin' out.

Howard has such pretty eyes...

...and a spotty little nose.

Cuteness <3

There, all done with the puppy spam. :)

(x-posted to petbulls and my personal journal)

Lambert Update

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to give everyone an update on Lambert. As some of you have read, my pittie, Lambert is a scardy cat. Scared of loud noised, new people, most things really. He really only loves my boyfriend and I and close friend and dogs. All dogs. (he has gotten much much better with our friends and house guests. Takes him only a few minutes now to get up and love on them!)

Well we graduated basic obedience earlier this year which was great. Knows all his commands, teaching him "leave it" is a wonderful thing. We are currently working with a local personal trainer. We have worked with a few, but really didnt find any that could help with Lambert's fearful / shy issues. Our new trainer recommended clickr training. Which has been pretty great. We have two things to battle. Lamberts fear issues and stubborn issues! During the day it's very hard to get lambert to walk, all the construction, children, people yelling, etc scare him. Well, my boyfriend got Lambert to walk 15 blocks today. DURING THE DAY! Amazing! Lambert is great at night time since it's quiet. We are very lucky that Lambert is great off leash and with dogs, or he would never get excercise.

We meet with our new trainer again after Labor day to see how Lambert is doing and to see what more we can do.

Yay progress!

I took it apart and stacked the two halves together with the intention of my Dachshund using it for a bed. PacMan liked it, though. I'm actually pretty surprised that he managed to squeeze in and still have that little bit of space left over. But the sides are bent outward under the strain.

He does have his own crate with his own bed in it. And now it's been taken apart and stacked like this one so he is using it. Sometimes they just have to luck into the right way to get the message across.

Also, you can see where his knee was shaved and the surgical scar from having his little tumor removed. He doesn't have some kind of weird mange or anything :0D

PA - HB 2553 has been CHANGED!

For those of us who live in PA, the threat of BSL was becoming a reality with the proposed HB 2553 which sought to change the state laws to allow specific municipalties and counties to enact and enforce their own dangerous dog laws. Sounds fair enough, but he was taking out a very important part of our state law, that a dog cannot be deemed vicious by breed alone. HB 2553 would then have enabled BSL and crazy knee jerk reactions to incidents all over our state would have followed.
But!
I just received word that Senator Galloway as of yesterday changed the wording in HB 2553 so that municipalities will NOT be able to judge dogs soley by their breed!
This is incredible news for the dogs of PA!

Yay!

(this has been crossposted)
