Temp Agencies
Hi Everyone...

I'm after some advice.. my girlfriend is looking to change jobs, after 10 odd years doing the same type of work she has had enough and is burnt out so wants to do something new... in the mean time until she finds what she wants to spend her time doing i've suggested doing temp work to earn a living...

Now here is what i want to know... what type of work is available, how frequent is it.. like for example she doesnt want to finish one job and have 2 or 3 weeks with no work... what is the pay like etc.

Any information would be really helpful

Thanks

There is heaps of work on. What does she do?

I did some temping with Gel group and they were pretty good - govt postings, general admin stuff - good rates of pay (near $30/hr) and because govt longer assignements of several weeks to months... and if you ring them a week before an assignment ends... they tee you straight into a next one.

Only issue was they were kinda slack getting back to me at the intial phase - so if she is interested, have an up to date CV ready to go, and ask to come straight in and meet a recruiter... to kick start it all.

Julia Ross don't pay as well, and were a bit 'young people trying to make sales', tend to feed the call centres for Telstra etc type of roles.

Hays were really good for professional workforce stuff... specialised stuff. But so busy they were 'efficient' - although it is through them I got this current permanent position I love. They tend to do more specialised/qualified stuff - and do a lot of permanent recruitment and contracting. Lots of engineering, IT, business analysis etc.

IT stuff is HAYS or Ajilon I believe.

Basically there is TRUCKLOADS of work on. Depends what she does as to who she should go to and sort of work she might find.

i did exactly the same thing and temped for 2 years. while i mostly found that the work was good and solid, i did have periods where i was without work for a few weeks at a time.

my advice is to sign up with several agencies, not just one, and dont turn down ANYTHING they give you, because then you're most likely to get picked again next time.

i dont know what kind of industry your girl has worked in previously, but if she wants to do legal temping (lots more pay than regular admin temp work) and she has some legal experience, i fully recommend Stanwyk & Assoc as an agency, they're small but they look after you!

the other one i would fully recommend is Bell Personnel, who were my main agency for those few years. They are utterly awesome. Julia Ross is alright too (they got me my current fulltime possie) but i think as said above for temp stuff they lean more towards sales / call centres etc...

good luck to her! temping is awesome, you get to meet so many new people and network, you make new friends and you're never bored, plus the pay is great!

I have not had much fun with Julia Ross. They lose p'work and they don't pay that well.
I've pretty much only heard good things about GEL.
