My favourite car ever, a '99 Subaru Impreza WRX.

It was so fun driving it home, I've never really been able to overtake cars doing more than 100 in my old '89 Astra, but putting your foot down in this just unleashes a torrent of power as the turbo kicks in. There are a few little scratches and a little bit of peeling paint, but its almost perfect condition, and its only done 97,000km. I'm really surprised at how little fuel it uses also, when I picked it up the tank was 25% full, and it cost $55 to fill it up with premium unleaded. After the 211km drive home the tank was still about 60% full. I was really expecting it to be much worse, but its about the same as my Astra somehow.

Right after picking it up I met some furs for the first time ever, I stopped by Ral and Vulpies place and said hello, and they both seemed quite awesome :D I hope to see more of them and maybe meet some more locals in the near future :)

Another piccy coloured!

Most definitely NSFW, but relatively inoffensive all the same... )

Also in recent events, I played through Return to Castle Wolfenstein again. I'm amazed at how much (re)playability this game has. Perhaps i'm just biased because i'll play or watch anything with nazis in it.
Oh, and my tax return came back, and I got exactly what the ATO predicted (i.e. sweet fuck all).

Falli and I are off to Denmark (the town, not the country) sometime next week (thinking maybe departing early Tuesday morning). No internets for us until the following Saturday (26th).

When we come back, I expect to get on with the rest of my creative goals, especially the fish photomorph sequence!

Multi-sized owl

From [info]ravenbait's LJ: an awesome owl. You may know it from a certain Japanese TV show featured on YouTube.

I've just bought a new phone, and hence am having my number ported from one carrier to another. However it appears that they've jumped the gun a bit, and disconnected my old service, prior to connecting my new one.

As such, I will be uncontactable via mobile until further notice.

Primes and gear demos

  • Jul. 19th, 2008 at 1:08 PM
I wrote a prime table generator. Enjoy. And if you don't, this Memory Man demo is moderately entertaining:

Edit: That's interesting.. the number between twin primes is always divisible by six (P1 * P2), and the number directly between primes which are four apart is always divisible by three (P2). Also there are prime relationships called sexy primes.

Is it a sexy prime, Mrs Badcrumble?
More random stuff from youtube :D.

The next 2 are grunge styled musics. If you can't stand that type of music just don't view it. Simple no?

Photos from AQWA visit

[info]fallimar and I went to the local aquarium (The Aquarium of Western Australia, or AQWA as it is otherwise known) on Wednesday. I took my camera along and grabbed some photos. I also signed up for a PhotoBucket account, so here they are for your viewing pleasure:

Also... this is the coolest fish ever. If I had to choose a specific fish species to be, I would pick this one! His features aren't offensive, he's got awesome looking fins, nice big eyes and above all is huge! Might look like a little goldfish in that photo, but that fish is easily a metre long from tailfin to nose!

Car service rant

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 5:04 PM
Well my car has been in for a major service... but none of the problems I was aware of have been fixed. I can understand that it's an old car and likely has lots of issues that aren't gonna be fixed by a general service, but I specifically mentioned the problem about the brake lights being stuck on, which obviously is rather incredibly un-safe... but no they didn't think of just calling me and asking if I wanted it done then for the extra charge. So now I have to deal with it for another week till I can book it in again. Also pissed off that I booked it for 9am, earliest I could manage, and they were only just starting it when I called at 2pm to see if they had an eta. >.>

All this really makes me like the moped even more.... though admittedly out of all the cars I've driven so far, old and new, the Charade is by far my favorite.

Edit: Had a look myself. Little button the break pushes when released that turns off the lights. Wedging a screwdriver temporarily in there to pad it out makes it work fine. Is $120 reasonable to fix this? Though frankly I'm more annoyed at the inconvenience of having to wait another week to fix it. >.>
Edit2: Autobahn Balcatta if anyone's wondering. :P Otherwise ok service, gears and idling work a bit better.

Ouch!

I have a bore. Actually, as I discovered, its called a well. Inside it is a 3-phase pump. I have a starter box on the wall where I press a green button to make it go and a red button to make it stop. There are no zones, solenoids or anything else.

Of course I occasionally forget to press the button on one of our approved watering days. (And we won't mention what things look like when I come back from holidays over summer). The idea solution would be to install a timer.

I've been in and spoken to the water people before, general consensus is I'd require a timer box and a relay and maybe a new starter box depending on its if a relay could be fitted or not. That added up to about $150 worth of parts (+ however much for a starter box) I spoke to the water guy and he said for an exact quote they'd need to see it, so he came over today. On the phone his estimate was $450 +/- $150 depending on other bits and pieces.

So worst case was $600. How much did the quote come in at? $825.95.

For that much, I can press the button for longer.

I'm going to get a second opinion when I get the electrician in to redo my kitchen (when I figure out what I want to do with the kitchen)

Avian Fashions

Behold, the flight suit.

The one I bought Araluen is dusty rose and the leash I got for it is raspberry.

Having one of these babies means that Luen can be out for longer, and I can flight-train him more. He'll be allowed much more freedom because I won't have to be on his tail with a roll of toilet paper :} It's also adorable.

NO MORE CLEANING UP BIRD POOP OFF THE FLOOR.
And I'm aware I bought a pink harness for (what we assume) is a boy bird. But it matches his feathers, and I didn't want anything that would clash too horribly.
Also, probably next week, Luen's getting his claws trimmed. Maybe beak too. If I can afford it, we may consider DNA sexing, though I'm hesitant as it'll be his first vet visit and I think taking blood his first time may make him wary of vets in the future.

This bird is totally not spoilt.

Melodyne is getting scary

  • Jul. 16th, 2008 at 10:12 PM
First it made re-tuning stuff easy, but now it can do polyphonic analysis. Meaning it can take guitar chords and let you retune the individual notes. Wow. I may have to finally get this software, since i don't have a vocal tuner yet and it's cheaper (and more useful) than a Roland VP-550.

But not until next year. The rest of the year is for buying hardware only. I've got enough ukuleles now (the next one arrives on Tuesday) so next on the list is a MIDI controller keyboard followed by.. ooh.. haven't decided between an electric bass guitar and a decent electric. Then an Eee PC later, then a quad-core sumitruther.

Nos da.

Man, why is it not Friday? I'm in a very drinky mood.

Don't get even .... get really odd!

  • Jul. 16th, 2008 at 4:38 PM
It strikes me as odd.

After many days and months of self examination, angst and concern, I (and many others) manage to find a definition of self that is positive, helpful and leads to a place of beauty.

Why, then, do others have to keep redefining you in their own terms, such that the beauty is destroyed?

While their interpretation does not directly affect me, the way they then choose to interact with me does.

How do you prevent this from happening?

How do you not lose yourself in other peoples definitions of interaction?
