How do I get rid of this garbage, and get a standard web form back???
When I re-edit an entry and click "HTML", I find that all of my line breaks have been replaced with <br /> First of all, its <BR> there is absolutely no need for a closing slash in a BR tag of all things - let alone one after the HTML tag! What is this, a bandwidth wasting contest? Second, Why was the web client ruined? Linebreaks worked just fine, please bring them back! UPDATE NOTE: <P /> makes sense, because there's a close tag associated with the P tag. Since the very concept of closing a BR tag is absurd - a break is a point, not a span, nobody has ever used </BR>, ever - there is no possible justification for <BR /> regardless of what some 21st century twits might think. This is not up for debate; it is simply a cold, hard, mathematical fact. HTML 4+ is Just Plain Wrong, that's not my fault, and no amount of arguing can make the concept of a close for a break tag right, for the same reasons the Indiana legislature could not set the value of Pi equal to exactly 3 with a proposed law that said it must be so, back in 1897... 72 comments | Leave a comment

I am posting this here, because I'm not sure where else to post this.
I love if LJ or someone else had a tool that could just run through your friends list and return the name with the date/time of last posting. Nothing else needed - this could allow someone to clean up journals that don't post much any more or see if someone hasn't posted lately. (I know there is nudge, but that only works for mutual friends, and sometimes you just want to look, not bother someone). 08 January 2009 @ 01:28 am
I'm too lazy to go look back, but I know somewhere there was a whole breakdown about the perks of being permanent (with numbers) as opposed to a paid user for 4 years or something.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Or anyone wanna expand on the issue? 06 January 2009 @ 10:15 am
Saw this in Valleywag article about layoffs at LJ and the prospects for its future Starting to think that permanent account wasn't all it was cracked up to be... Update: LJ statement released to cnet.com Current Mood: 17 December 2008 @ 02:06 pm
Hey new permanent account holders -- where did you donate your $25 to? I gave mine to the Utah LGBT Center. :)

Anyone know where I can find a list of communities with permanent account status? It's just to satisfy curiosity; I can figure out 18 of them, but that's because 17 are owned by LJ and I run the non-LJ one. I can't figure out a way to search LJ for account statuses and this sort of stuff doesn't appear to be catologed in LJ's statistics page. edit: How embarrassing. Hey guys, I just got a permanent account purchases for me. I'm wondering how to give away my 6 months of paid time I have left?
Thanks! 06 December 2008 @ 02:23 am
Just got a perm account and was wondering those 10+ gigs of space can only be used for pics. I'd love to use it for hosting style sheets or the ocassional html file - even if the feature is limited to paid/perm accounts.

As you surely know by now, we're getting more icon slots and storage space for scrapBook on Dec 4.
I was just wondering though, are you happy with this? Or did you wish for something else to be 'upped'? Or do you not care at all? 25 November 2008 @ 11:29 pm
I notice it's been quiet here lately. It seems like everyone's been busy with real world issues (perhaps it's that time of the year), and that seems to reflect on activity on LJ. As you may be aware, LJ is set to have a permanent account sale starting 4 Dec. If you happen to run across any permanent account holders who aren't already with us, you may wish to let them know about our little corner in the LJ world,
That being said, please take a moment to participate in a little poll, for this community. Poll #1304508 Perm perm bo-berm, banana fana fo-ferm, mi my mo-merm...perm! Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: None Thus far, this community has tried to limit the number of introduction posts to a specific meet-and-greet entry. The primary advantage is that no one's friends-page is flooded with entries; the primary disadvantage is that some may not go view this entry to check on new members (which may lead to less interaction within the community). So, that being said, would you like to: allow introductory posts, in place of a centralized entry, or keep introductions limited to one entry instead of allowing multiple introduction posts. Entries currently posted go through a moderation queue, in an attempt to keep posts focused on relevant issues. The primary benefit to this is that we cut down on certain types of entries (such as those that can be addressed with a quick FAQ search); the flip-side is that I wonder if it might discourage posting. So, would you prefer to see: moderated posting continue, with new entries requiring moderator review, or un-moderated posting, allowing members to post entries without moderator review. On another topic, I have been considering creating a LiveJournal wiki -- just like Wikipedia, this would be a user-created/edited collection of information, but specific to LiveJournal. Any bit of information about LJ-related issues would be included. The idea stems from my nerdy desire to have as much information as possible, including easily-located historical information. Is this something you would like to see (and preferably) participate in? Yes No (And I know we all hate having yet another login and password, so I would attempt to use LJ's openID for this purpose.) Lastly, we've lost a few moderators, so if you're interested in joining the Anyway, thanks for your input on the poll. If you have more detailed comments or thoughts, please feel free to post a comment. I understand the holidays are upon us, so I hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday season. My...as always, a longer post than I originally intended! 25 November 2008 @ 11:47 pm
When the new permanent accounts go on sale December 4th, all permanent accounts will get fifty more userpics!
Of course, this news comes out the day after I turn over a bunch of mine... 08 November 2008 @ 09:23 pm
There has finally been an update on the Permanent Accounts, as everyone here probably knows by now - two days ago it was announced as occurring on November 20th, 2008 at a price of $175 for an account. Everyone that has bought them previously will be glad to know they will not be forking out an extra $25-75, depending on when (or if) you bought your Permanent Account. For those planning to gift one, upgrade a secondary but frequently used account, or anything else... Well, I for one was expecting a price increase by now, though I'm sure for those planning to buy this time around it's slightly disappointing.
Whether Permanent Accounts will automatically get more user pictures, or whether we will be allowed to get a la carte user pictures, has yet to be announced. Will the sales be affected by their simultaneous release of the new Profile? Who knows? I don't actually look at profiles very often, so that hasn't upset me too much, though I agree with the majority that the new profile does not look very attractive. ETA: Delayed theoretically until December 4th now. 08 October 2008 @ 12:30 pm
You know at www.livejournal.com when you log in, you'll be able to see your friends birthdays, the comments left in your journal and LJ spotlights plus question of the day?
Is there anyway to adjust the settings to view the last three or four flist entries so I can click one page and see friends entries as well as comments left on my journal? 05 October 2008 @ 03:40 pm
Hi, I'm Sarah, but I don't really need an intro post because I've been here before... I left all my communities a long time ago to personal events that had been going on:
1. I know there's a Permanent Account sale going on in November at some point, at least, as far as current planning goes. Any idea on the release of that information? I find it odd that they always wait until the month beforehand; too many of their users are in their teens and twenties and sometimes need more than a month to put money aside. 2. The layout here looks awesome, but can one teeny-weensy adjustment be made? When I'm viewing the community directly, there's no way to get to the profile page. At least, not that I can see. I'm not sure the calendar, friends page, or recent links are there either. Sure, I know how to type the stuff in myself, but most of the time having those links is preferable. So, what have the rest of the permie accounts been up to lately? 23 September 2008 @ 08:33 pm

This is the third time that I bought V-gifts for friends and they never get delivered, because I use Paypal and Firefox. LJ does not mention this. Marta said once about there being a bug with LJ, Paypal and a plug-in with Firefox yet she never said which plug-in. I used to buy almost all my friends V-gifts for their birthday. Now these gifts were for people ill and to cheer some others up. Today they were supposed to show up. And they took the money, but no V-gifts. Yes I left a support request like I did for the last two times and it is just sitting there. Has this happened to anyone else? This one important way a perm member can still support this site, I just can't believe they have not addressed this yet. Current Mood: 18 July 2008 @ 09:56 am

I've made a suggestion regarding loosening restrictions on scripting and embedded contents. I've asserted that the investment--monetary and psychological--of permanent members is a deterrent to "bad behavior" that might come along with greater freedoms. Other permanent members have already weighed in on both sides of this suggestion. I wanted to invite the rest of you to share your thoughts. Current Mood: 02 June 2008 @ 08:31 pm
Hi, being a permanent member, I have taken advantage of the generous amount of storage space offered on scrapbook. As such, I have almost filled the 10GB. I was wondering is it possible for us permanent members to purchase additional space to the 10GB, or if that is an absolute hard limit ? Thanks. Current Mood: 01 June 2008 @ 06:12 pm
So what did everyone here think of these LJ Advisory Board Elections that just happened? (I suppose I should have asked while this was going on!) Totally cool, totally un-cool, or just "Meh?" LJ Election community: Also there have been Policy Changes, so the Terms of Service were changed around. LJ policy details: Again, yay, nay, or "Meh?" It looks like they went back on some of the things that were put into place after the great Strikethrough massacre of 2007. I feel better about the policy changes than I do about the election.
