#1: The question about ignoring Pakistani sovereignty, if it meant getting bin Laden? Us nerds know the Kobayashi Maru when we hear it.
#2: Everyone talks about the town hall being McCain's territory, but man, seeing them up and walking around, you notice that Obama is much taller and McCain is hunched over and really bald.
More later, but here's your dose of Mightygodking. Bonus points for FactCheck.org and Fact Checker. Good quick response from Michael Scherer, also.

From Political Wire:
The Chronicle of Higher Education notes that when Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) "created his own political party after losing the 2006 Connecticut Democratic primary, critics decried Connecticut for Lieberman as 'A Party of One.'"
"Two years later, his party not only has five candidates, it also has a new platform: 'The Connecticut for Lieberman Party rejects the fraud perpetrated on the members of this party and the citizens of Connecticut by Joe Lieberman.'"
Said one member: "I wouldn't be surprised to see a Connecticut for Lieberman candidate running against Joe Lieberman in 2012."
Ladies and Gentlemen, I provide for you that greatest of spectacles: American Democracy.

Work is goofy busy, so no time for news this afternoon. Here's something to tide you over:
"With the economy down and recent prostitution busts claiming three popular New York S&M clubs, professionals working in BDSM community are getting nervous about job stability. So, what is a dom to do? Start a PAC, of course!"
Tonight, catching up on Heroes, then debate #3!

The new job is frying my brain. There's just so much paper. Years of it, piled everywhere. I feel like I'm treading water, and I'm just going to keep treading, bc the piles are never going to get smaller - they'll just be moved to storage and more paper will replace them. I come home early and get to relax for a good long while, then cook dinner, read or watch tv, but am utterly exhausted by 10:30. I keep looking at my notebook, but I can't even put words together coherently for lj, let alone that. I know this is just me not adjusting to change very well (as usual), but this really sucks. Can I be past this part now, please?

"The impression fits with the overall theme that Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain have been trying to advance: that expertise is overrated, homespun sincerity is better than sophistication, conviction is more important than analysis."
"The race is over. John McCain's candidacy is as much a casualty of Wall Street as Lehman or Merrill."
Alternately, it's time for Act III for McCain.
Bonus in-depth report: Palin's pipeline to nowhere? (Good read.)
"You know it's bad for Republicans when..."
"This is such a serious moment in American history that it's hard to believe that someone with Ms. Palin's limited skills could possibly be playing a leadership role."
"As it became clear that she wasn't going to implode, I started to see the debate instead as The Joe Biden Show. And, it was good."

Despite all joking aside about Commies, and despite the DOW not actually plummeting 800 points like it looked like it was going to, today was a really, truly, deeply awful day for the world economy.
This is sort of painfully depressing.

New world order: "The Army on Monday will unveil an unprecedented doctrine that declares nation-building missions will probably become more important than conventional warfare and defines 'fragile states' that breed crime, terrorism and religious and ethnic strife as the greatest threat to U.S. national security."
So, uh, how is al-Qaeda doing these days?
CAN'T TRUST THAT DAY:
* Even after Supreme Court ruling, government won't act on Guantanamo cases.
* Speaking of which, slow start for the Court's year.
* "Every so often, we journalists have a duty to remind readers just how dingy the McCain campaign, and its right-wing acolytes in the media (I'm looking at you, Sean Hannity) have become - especially in their efforts to divert public attention from the economic crisis we're facing."
* Oh, Canada.
* Brilliant! A history of squirrels in our nation's capital.
* Two words: goat condoms.
* The Soviet space shuttle finds a home.
* Ooh. A look back at anti-communist propaganda. (Courtesy

The weather was glorious, simply glorious this weekend. There's a subtle balance I can sometimes reach, where the sun streaming in the windows (which on the 9th floor can really send the temperature up) combined with them being slightly open keeps it cool and pleasant basically all day (and night!) without turning on the heat or the A/C. We are currently having the kind of weather that makes that balance possible. It is awesome.
( Other nice stuff this weekend on top of the weather! )

This morning, Pat Buchanan on MSNBC absolved the world of the credit crisis by placing blame squarely where it belongs: on Alexander Hamilton.
Alexander Hamilton was unable to comment on account of being dead.
Shark! I spy a shark! Jumped!
In other news the McCain campaign announced NoVAs are commies, which we already knew. Commie! Commie commie commie. COMMIE! All you NoVA people reading this -- YOU ARE ALL COMMIE PINKOS! You hear me you commies?*
I am hoping by the end of the day the McCain campaign blames the Constitution and basic democracy for making the election "hard."
In other news, I am taking bets on which country falls over first: Germany or South Korea. Any takers?
* Sorry, the commie comment made me laugh so hard this weekend. Commies! Vote for Obama and you are a COMMIE! I'm not sure what that really means today, but still. COMMIES!

( My eulogy for my grandmother )
It's not the best written thing ever but a) that's not my talent and b) you never have enough time for these things. I could have chosen better words or made it more cohesive, but frankly my mind wasn't focused on that. Here is the eulogy I delivered, unedited, so you can have some idea who she was.

"There is no secret about any of this. The figures below are all from the annual Economic Report of the President, and the analysis is primitive. Nevertheless, what these numbers show almost beyond doubt is that Democrats are better at virtually every economic task that is important to Republicans."
