Wow, there's a lot of good stuff nominated! Glad I don't have to vote!

*supposes buying Bettany's affection with a vote for Best Supporting Actor would be a bit cheap, anyway*

They made my life easy by nominating McKellen and not Sean Astin as supporting actor, meaning that I can root against ROTK wholeheartedly in this category, because Astin's performance was The Return of the King, the King himself notwithstanding.

I think Russell Crowe was robbed, but didn't he rough up the BAFTA producer for cutting his speech or something a couple of years ago? *g* Am hoping he gets the Oscar nod not even for his sake so much as for mine: if M&C kicks butt in awards season, chances are we'll get a better DVD and better odds for a sequel.

Finally! As an avid follower of the Oscars, I was pretty upset over Paul getting very largely snubbed, when both the fangirl and objective observer in me has been rooting for him above all else.
Russ I think is a longer shot to the oscar then Paul right now, but if they both get nominated, I will be squealing to kingdom come.

I don't think Paul did any big enough roles to be taken seriously by the Oscars till this year -- and he's young. I think Russell was very well reviewed, and he IS that movie -- same as Depp IS POTC -- so I think it depends on whether it gets the Best Picture and Best Director consideration. Fox gave up on marketing it so fast it's hard to say, though there are a lot of print award ads. I saw it again today and it was back in one of the bigger theaters in the multiplex after being in the tiny one, and was packed-to-the-gills sold out...

Oh Paul Bettany got nominated! *dances* Not sure about his chances of winning, but I'm pleased he gets the nod for his performance as the completely lovable Dr Maturin. :)
