dubael @ 9:11pm: I am not ready to bury my father
So... I am seriously freaked out about my father. He is going to start Chemotherapy tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. His last email to me, he said that surgery was out because it was too advanced (the cancer).

I know the title of this entry may be overly dramatic but that is what I am afraid of, that he'll die and I'll be burying him, and frankly, I am not ready for that.

Too many of my friends and family are sick or suffering with a sick relative, and I am finally beginning to understand 'survivor guilt' the worst thing happening personally to me is that I've got a financial dry spell as the change over from working nights to working days takes effect with the added bonus that my dental benefits have been exceeded for the year *rolls eyes* 'fine how much is that now?'

Finances I can deal with, people deathly ill and or dying and or having major health traumas around me is freaking me right out.

So... if I seem a little stressed; that is why.

Sorry

leesalogic @ 6:17pm: Stupid Broken Leg >:|
OK so the doc says I'm progressing normally.

My grumpiness is due to my way too optimistic thinking/selective hearing that after six weeks I could actually start bearing weight, albeit with crutch assistance and still wearing the boot. But no. The 6-12 weeks the doc talked about apparently means I'll be unable to bear weight *period* because the breaks were oblique* (though I think it looks more like the spiral example), not 6-12 weeks until I'm walking like a regular biped. I'm so bummed right now I can't even express it adequately.

I thought I might be able to do paintball on 11/1, but I'm thinking no now. I don't even know if I can go to the Faire on Sunday for [info]t1tdave's birthday fun because just thinking about walking across all that uneven ground just to get the the White Hart Tavern makes me tired. It is the closest tavern so I'll think about it.

Also, my selective hearing was wrong in that I thought I could leave my boot off most of the time except when taking stairs or leaving the house. But no. I should be wearing it most of the time so my foot stays at a 90 deg angle to my leg. The problem with wearing it is that my leg gets very restless in the boot. I just can't find a comfortable place to rest, especially when I'm sleeping.

So, fine. I'll wear it during the majority of waking hours, but there's no way I'm sleeping in the boot. I don't get enough restful sleep as it is. So it appears I'm gonna have to put up with that horrible flaking skin again (leaving the boot/wrappings off allowed the skin to go away like it normally does rather than stay on my leg).

12 weeks comes up around the end of November. And here I was thinking I wouldn't need my handicap placard through December but it looks like I'll still be needing it for nearly the rest of the year.

*The tibia apparently has two oblique fractures on it, one of them nearly perpendicular to the foot. My fibula is still a little crooked but the doc said the tibia's straightening/healing should encourage the fibula to straighten normally too, but that bone is so small it doesn't have to be perfect.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

roadratx @ 3:22pm: 30 Nights of Mayhem - Day Off Post...
...what? Yep...day off and I'm posting. Odd that....

Anyway, the sickness that's taken hold of me and Carrie seems to have spread a bit to her father now as well. Good news is that I'm getting better. Bad news is that she really hasn't and now he's sick too. However, I think that I should be up for work come either Weds or Thurs which is a good thing in my opinion. Now comes to the decision to take off Weds night at Fright Farm and take up the open call that's over at ScareHouse. I have to do a little figuring on this one as it's a bit of a distance...about 43miles away compared to the 30-35 that FrightFarm is. I guess now that I just looked at that it's not much of a difference really. So what's the other advantage? More pay....ScareHouse pays $7.15/hr and I'm guessing that it's from 6pm on. The schedule is also a bit more forgiving as it runs Thurs-Sun only. Still have to figure this one out...

veg out now...more later

rwday @ 12:00pm: Yay, sewage!
It seems that the sewage vacation is going to last through the end of the week. I could go work at Central or Bayside to make up the hours, but I just don't feel like it. If Windsor Woods or Kempsville needed me, I'd go there in a heartbeat, but they don't, and I don't feel like dealing with a new staff and procedures just for 3 days. So I'll take 2 days of leave and make up 4 hours next week.

So yay, vacation! So far this morning I've cleaned my office, taken Gretchen to the vet for her skin problem, mopped the kitchen floor and switched out my spring/summer work clothes for the fall/winter ones. This afternoon I'm tackling the dining room and then I'm going to actually try and write something. Might as well put my days off to good use. This will also make prepping for WoW much easier.
jericho_the_red @ 12:47pm: Politics of another sort

**okay, I don't normally forward on the emails that think they can
change the world, but this one is actually worth it. Pass it on to your
girls! The petition is at the bottom of the email.**

                 From a nurse:

I'll never forget the look in my patients' eyes when I had
to tell them they had to go home with the drains,
new exercises and no breast. I remember begging
the doctors to keep these women in the hospital
longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands
were tied by the insurance companies. So there I sat
with my patients, giving them the instructions they
needed to take care of themselves, knowing full
well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying,
because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look
spokelouder than the quiet 'Thank You' they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed
in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know
anyone who has had a mastectomy,
you may knowthat there is a lot of discomfort
and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are
trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure.
Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital
                for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important.

Please take the time and do it!  Please send this to
everyone in your address book.  If there was ever a
time when our voices and choices should be heard,
this is one of those times.

If you're receiving this, it's because I think you
will take the 30 seconds to vote on this issue and
send it on to others you know who will do the same.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection
Act which will require insurance companies to cover a
minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing
                 a mastectomy.  It's about eliminating the 'drive-through'
Mastectomy where women are forced to go home just a
few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor,
still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes
                still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page
with a petition drive to show support. Last year over
half the House signed on.  PLEASE!! Sign the petition
by clicking on the web site below.  You need not give more than
your name, state, and zip code.

luscious_purple @ 12:19pm: Onward to the ALCS
[Reprinted from a late edition of yesterday's LiveJournal. Computer locked up before I could finish the post, but LJ saved a draft.]

Wow, what a finish! I came home from Three Left Feet practice and Boston was ahead 2-0. But then the Angels managed to score two runs and it was TIED. Ugh. The Angels almost got a third run, too, but Tek chased down the runner all the way to third and tagged him out there. No wonder they made him the captain! Then it was the bottom of the ninth, we had one runner on second, and we popped a single -- and Jason Bay (the new guy who was traded for Manny) headed home, and slid in just ahead of the catcher, and BLAMMO! we won the game. Just like that, in the blink of an eye....
