we need to play D&D!

we need to play D&D!

either continue organicmatter01's campaign... or start a new one.

I've got a level 3-6 adventure picked out that I'd like to DM... I'm thinking since its already published I could be ready to go soon... like we could make characters on Sunday, even... depending on work schedules.

I kind of think that published adventures should be the way to go now... writing a campaign takes way too much time... and my encounters seem to end up being unbalanced despite my meticulous CR calculations. Plus, it should be pretty easy to embellish a published campaign if needed.

The only problem with published adventures is that they are written for 4 players, which we may or may not have. If we only have 3, I could just make an NPC that would help out (and hopefully come up with someone that you won't want to kill... heh).

whaddya say?

Scheduling

Sorry we haven't been able to play these last couple of weeks; I have had to get up very early in the morning to be at work. That however will end this week. Starting Monday I only have to work 4 days a week and I can pick a day off. For a little while it will be somewhat tricky to get Mondays off since it is kind of a first come first serve basis and lots of other people have already requested Mondays and Fridays off. Sunday however, will always be a good day for me since I don't go into work until 2. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are also always good potential days since not very people ask for them off. Please make a point to say when you would be able to play and we can work something out. I am not above playing on the weekend, but I would prefer to do it Saturday or Sunday afternoon rather than evening.

As of right now you are all being escorted to the castle to answer some questions regarding the recent encounter. Nic, since you weren't there if you can think of some reason you might be at the castle I can work that in, or just come up with something.

IWAY Builds I am currently using.

Just thought I'd post the builds I'm using in Tombs recently. I hear they are thinking of nerfing "IWAY" so I'm not sure if this will be of any use soon. The builds are easy to make, and best of all the groups seem to be forming constantly. If you want cheap easy groups to join, its the place to be.

IWAY Warrior. (W/R)
-Required-
Tiger's Fury
I Will avenge you!
Rez Signet
Charm Animal
Sword or Axe Skills - (Hamstring, Eviscerate, Even Sever Artery is okay)
-Choose one-
Spirits (Predatory Season, Winnowing, Natures Renewal)
Sprint
Ressurect Animal
(be sure to bring a bow!)

"Marluens" Orders Necro (N/Mo)
Order of Pain
Order of the Vampire
Heal Party
Aegis
Rebirth
Protective Spirit
Mending
Necrotic Traversal

Tainted Necro (N/Mo)
Well of the Profane
Order of Pain
Tainted Flesh
Heal Party
Rebirth
(Some other skills)

The IWAY Warrior is easy to use. Just follow targets. The other two are a little tricky. Orders Necro generally hides and spams orders and heal party and Aegis. Tainted Necro tends to be a bit closer. It's absolutely vital that they get Well of Profane up at just the right time when youre fighting smiters.

Proposed 4v4 build

I kind of assembled this from various things reading "guild of the week" pages on www.guildwars.com.

1 Mo/W (smiting + divine favor)
Zealot's Fire
Balthazar's Aura
Hamstring
Bonetti's Defense
Divine Healing
Sprint
"Charge!"

1 Mo/W (smiting + healing prayers)
Zealot's Fire
Balthazar's Aura
Hamstring
Bonetti's Defense
Heal Party
Sprint
"Charge!"

1 E/Mo
Various nuking powers
Ward Against Melee
Some healing
Aegis
Windborne Speed

1 E/R
Various nuking powers
Ward Against Melee
Some healing
Frozen Soil
Windborne Speed

Basically, the idea is to lure the other team into melee combat with their warriors, and then smite/nuke them to death. Elementalists and Monks are probably some of the juiciest targets for melee combatants... and the 4v4 Team Arenas seem to be pretty saturated with Warriors most of the time.

Divine Healing would serve its purpose really well if one of the Mo/W had a high divine favor attribute and if we stayed really close together, because it has a small range. Same with Ward against Melee.

With 2-3 characters with Aegis, it should be timed so that the spell is up 100% of the time... It is maximum 11 seconds with 14 in Protection prayers, and has a 30 second recharge time, so we could arrange it with various enchantment upgrades and whatnot. Possibly one monk should be a Mesmer secondary with energy gaining skills, as well as Arcane Echo for the Aegis (that is a huge amount of mana, though). Combine Ward against Melee and we have a pretty strong defense against any Warrior attacks us.

This team build is obviously very anti-warrior. which could be bad... but I've noticed we go up against 4 warriors very often and lose very often.

If a group only has one warrior, we wait for him/her to come at us, then start the smiting/nuking machine. Once that warrior falls, the ranger casts frozen soil to prevent reprisal... Then the team is down one member, and we should be able to kill the rest... or else we really suck.

If we go up against a group that is entirely casters and/or monks, we single out one (probably a monk) and just charge in as a group. The Mo/W use Hamstring to keep them in one place, and we smite/nuke them to death. Frozen soil could be applied in this scenario as well, especially if there is more than one monk.

One change that might be good is to make someone a N or Me secondary to remove enchantments and/or shut down monks... but that may make the team build lose its focus...

Edit:
added go fasta skills to each character.

Repost -

Rather than focus on certain skills, I think an important approach is to start looking at Group Strategy, rather than individual strategy. For instance here's my take on the current 8 person strategies running in HOH that seem to be working.

IWAY - Based off of the Warrior skill I will Avenge you.
6 W/R Each has to have I will avenge YOU, Tigers Fury, Charm Animal, (and hopefully spirit of Pred Season, Winnowing, and Revive Animal)
2 N/Mo Each needs to have Order of Pain, Order of the Vampire or Tainted Flesh, Putrid Explosion, Someother goodness.
Basically, Each warrior has their pet.. Charges in.. pets die quick. Use IWAY when a good number of bodies around. It stacks with the Tigers Fury to make you incredibly fast attacking and alot of regeneration. Theres some other important details like bringing a bow each to fight certain groups.

Smiters - Primarily Damage through Smiting
Mix of W/Mo, E/Mo.. Sometimes I see different groups.
Basically you ball up.. Monks keep each other alive and stack as much smiting damage, (primarily Balt's Aura) as possible.

Those are the two big ones I saw last night. You also have Air Spike groups, which I am vaguely aware of, Ranger Spike groups, of which I have no clue on, and other variants.

I think coolest though, I saw a group of nothing but N/ME. I think they had a few doing Fragility-Virulence Spike damage, but they also had it rigged for a massive corpse explosion deal.. Perhaps with Edge of Extinction and something else. I need to find out about it.

Of course all of these are for HoH whichare 8 person teams.. And usually we're lucky to have 4 on at a time. We should be able to pull some of this idea together to make 4 person strategies. Definitely unlocking alot of skills will help.

priority skills to unlock

Was thinking about it...

I've unlocked all of the Monk skills now, and am moving on to Mesmer skills... my basic premise is 'unlock every skill, one class at a time'.

Which is dumb.

Maybe we could come up with a master list of the most useful PvP skills to unlock for each class? I can come up with one for Monks pretty fast... but I'm pretty clueless about every other class.

That way, we could all have the skills we need for important builds in PvP, instead of just using whichever class our Roleplaying character is.

I looked around for a website for another guild somewhere that might have 'unlocking requirements' to join their guild to use as a guide, but I wasn't really able to find one.

I think this would be helpful for all of us, and especially for newer members of our guild who may not have played every class as a roleplaying character to unlock skills via quests yet.

I'm looking to get a shutdown mesmer and or necro build working, as well as a PvP Elementalist and Warrior tank build... anyone who can help suggest skills please do.

We should also try to start posting 4v4 and 8v8 team builds here, and comment on them and stuff... it would be awesome if we all got really involved in strategizing when we're not playing, so that when we are actually playing, we can get right down to business instead of the kind of endless experimentation we usually do. If we come up with a really solid team build, we could add these skills to the 'priority to unlock' list.

As for unlocking elites and such, I recently discovered that you can change your secondary profession as much as you want, and when you switch back, you will have all the same skills, so you could switch your secondary to monk briefly and unlock some of the elites below with whatever character is further along to unlock things. There's also always the ability to unlock things via faction. We could also add certain runes and upgrades maybe, that a particular build needs to utilize, and could just have everyone unlock them with faction. (Superior Vigor and Superior Healing come to mind... as well as all minor runes). We can organize some unlocking runs to help people out on GW Sundays maybe. (Like run the Dragon's Lair mission and everyone captures a skill or two they need).

Anyway, here's my list of important PvP monk skills for those interested... I've tried to narrow it down to the absolutely most useful for a healing and/or protection monk in PvP, esp. as far as elites go... since I haven't messed around with PvP Smiting much. Lemme know if I have forgotten anything important:

Elites:
Spell Breaker (Griffen Boss in Snake Dance - appears sometimes just to the west outside Rankor)
Word of Healing (Wissper Insani in Elona mission)
Restore Condition (spider boss in Abbadon's Mouth)
Shield of Regeneration (Facet of Light - first dragon in Dragon's Lair)

Non-Elites:
Purge Conditions
Remove Hex
Resurrect
Vengeance
Heal Party
Healing Breeze
Aegis
Guardian
Mend Ailment
Mend Condition
Protective Spirit
Reversal of Fortune
Shielding Hands

It was 50k total (down from 55k)... so if everyone could chip in that would be excellent.

Now we need to decide what island we want. I think Island of the Dead is the best, just because it is indoors, and it uses terrain art that isn't that common in the actual game. (The catacombs from Presearing).

We should totally all be online tomorrow to try out some Guild vs. Guild battling.

Also, I called Jonathan, and he says he would be up for it if we called him and needed one or two more people.
Tombs PvP and a bunch of links

So we have 7 people far enough in the game to play in Tombs PvP... if we had one more person we could try it out sometime. There's a 4-player non-random arena at Draknor's Forge also, so we could practice there for the time being, or when not everyone is online.

Basically you fight through all of the tombs to reach the Hall of Heroes, then the winner of that receives a Celestial Sigil. A Celestial Sigil gets us a Guild Hall, at which point we can do Guild vs. Guild PvP.

More about tombs PvP:

http://gwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=15

fmephisto and I played around with teamspeak last night, and it looks like it could be very useful. I know most hardcore PvP guilds use it or other software to communicate via voice. It would be way better if it were connected to GW somehow, and people's names would flash when they are speaking. I mean, I know what you sound like and all, but it would still be nice. Another alternative would be to run GW in windowed mode.

Teamspeak site:

http://www.goteamspeak.com/

I've ordered this headset from newegg, it looks pretty decent and isn't too expensive:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106014

Also, here is the dye mixing guide I couldn't find earlier:

http://gwvault.ign.com/static.php?page=2dye

Finally, here is a link to a site that is like E-Bay for MMORPGs, except you bid with in-game money... I've started browsing and bidding on stuff, and it looks like you can get decent deals on kind of specific stuff that would be impossible to find on your own:

http://www.rpgtraders.net/guildwars/

PvP craziness.

So Jonathan and I finally got to a point in the game last night where we can do 8 player non-random team PvP (The Tomb of Primeval Kings). I'd like to help people get that far... because all of the PvP I have done so far has been pretty lame (my random team totally slaughtered the other random team every time). I know several of the missions before tombs REALLY suck to try to do with groups of people leaving from town, so it'd be good to get guild people to help in these things. There is one mission near the end of the desert that seriously took me like 10 tries... and 5 of those tries were consecutive attempts with the same group, that had several good players (It is a moderately long mission, too). There are also a few tricks you almost have to do to win these missions...

Everyone should post here how far along they are, and maybe we can coordinate some guild mission doing without having to repeat the same missions too much (i.e. start at the earliest mission that needs to be done)... I'm currently at the Dragon's Lair, which is where we need to be for PvP.

We could also try to strater-guise and see what our 1st main PvP characters' jobs will be. I plan to be the primary healer, with a lot of protetion and healing.... maybe a hint of Mesmerness in the form of enchantment/hex shattering. We need some additional healers, as well. Right now I'm gearing more toward protection, which is actually working out really well. The trouble is I have very little mana regen, and therefore can't spam healing spells like I used to. There's a skill in Draknor's Forge that will help that for me.

Watching the Material and Dye Trader Marketplace

So I've kind of been keeping track of this pretty well over the last few days. From what I can tell, it appears there are a lot of other people playing the 'stock market' side of Guild Wars, and probably to a much greater extreme that I/we are (I.E. they have time to farm all day and have potentially hundreds of each item ready to sell when the price goes up).

It looks like prices are going down all around for most things, and that rarer materials are slowly becoming available from the Material Trader. 6 Days ago you couldn't buy any rares. 4 Days ago Parchment made a brief appearance, then was readily available the next day. Same thing with Steel yesterday. I'm guessing we'll see Linen, Silk, and Fur appear pretty soon as well, since those are now more easier to find.

My question is if people aren't buying or selling things from a trader at all, how is the price determined?

There also seems to be a pretty regular fluctuation in price with the time of day. The ideal time to sell something to a trader seems to be in the evening, 6 PM to Midnight. The weekends also seem to be a good time, this weekend will tell. Hopefully things will go up again Saturday evening, that seems to be when all the high buying prices are from.

I made the mistake of buying from the trader... he kind of has a minimum selling price (150 for materials, 140 for dyes) so while it may seem worth it in a stock market sense, in reality it is better to buy in bulk from players (though this requires dealing with other people... meh). Hopefully scales will go for above 150 again this weekend so I can make money off said investment.

Also, I am getting good feedback on the page I made, and good suggestions for improvements. But not everyone who is using the page is submitting data to it... It has mostly been me, with a bit of late night help from Fred (I think). The page is only as useful as the data submitted to it, so contributations from everyone would be very helpful. If you're at a trader and looking at the page, take a minute to enter some info in, even if it is only a couple of different items of note.

Penis Forklift WILL conquer Guild Wars financially! heh.

(on a related note - one of our client's cars got hit by a Forklift today at work while they were running errands. VIVE LA FORKLIFT!)
