Lies! Google is all-knowing. We'd have a cure for cancer by now, if those silly researchers would stop mucking about and do a proper search. I recommend the + and " " search operators for optimal success.

Don't use it as a verb

Google is the name of a company that provides free web search results. We should not use it as a verb, that just gives it power over us.

"It was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary on June 15, 2006,[3] and to the eleventh edition of the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary in July 2006."

Well, the OED can be forgiven. They'll put anything in that gets written down enough times. Merriam-Webster should know better, but they were trying to be cool like the other kids.

You can take that, Xerox it, and Kelloggafy it so you can read it on your breakfast cereal every morning.

Don't know much about Kelloggs, but "Xerox" is widely used in our country, including as a synonym for a verb "to copy", or for example "xero-copy"=a copy of something made with a copying machine, no matter the brand.

Now with "google" it is a bit different. the "verb" itself means "to look for womething on the web using google.com. I don't think anyone is using it in a single sentence with another search brand, i.e. "Go google for it on Yahoo!". At least I've never heard of it.

Actually, "xerox" and "jell-o" have tried for years to discourage the generic use of the term to mean "photocopy" or "gelatinous dessert product" since it would limit their trademark and copyright claims.
