Can't stop laughing - menacing shadow turns into harmless (or is he?) duck.

what situations Rat, I mean EGO-MAN, will do something as a hero?

Ego-Man will act in a way that defends others only if he sees himself as most cost-effectively aided in the process. Thus, he might stop Godzilla from destroying the city, in order to protect his own home and to keep him from having subsequently to travel further to shop for goods and services.

Of course, were Ego-Man more intelligent, then he would have captured or disabled the mugger above. A criminal who chooses his victims largely at random is a menace to Rat.

Ego-man after all it's a simple hero with no reason to fight at all. I guess he will do better on the InquiRAT or as a lawyer.

Ego Man

Rat's alter ego, Ego Man, has a philosophical, if not a biological, pedigree: check out 19th century German philosopher Max Stirner. Thish roundz on me.

Only one problem - he isn't a MAN, he's a RAT.

But then, Ego-Rat doesn't have that Zing -

For some reason this strip is really philosophical to me. No I don't have a large ego (I think?). But it feels like a philosophical statement. hehe

If Ego-Man just lets the mugger off, then it's only a matter of time before he targets Rat. Better to stop the criminal now than wait until it's too late.

That's essentially it. Ego-Man could well argue that a criminal who was acting on a specific grudge had nothing to do with him, but the typical mugger is a more general threat, who arguable victimizes a large number of people with each attack, as any one of them could have been the immediate victim.

Just answer Rat's question with, "If you don't help me now, I'll hurt you later."

Nah. He's smarter than to try that while a mugger has a gun on both of us. He might be able to fly but I don't know if he's bulletproof or has any special strength.

...probably couldn't be much help then anyway, as the mugger shoots you both. Smooooth.

Well, that was always the risk anyway, right? No matter whether Ego-Man is there to help or not. So you're missing the main point of my comment. The point is not necessarily to win against the mugger, the point is to blackmail and bring down Ego-Man. I Ego-Man CAN help (and maybe both of us could take on the mugger), then great, I win and Ego-Man actually did something for another person (albeit under duress). If we end up being both shot by the mugger, well that always the risk anyway, but at least I would feel vindicated!

Someone here doesn't get the point. The mugger would settle for your watch and wallet, and not care whether he ever saw you again. Your threat will make a lasting personal enemy out of a superhero. Smooooooth.

LOL! A superhero that just drops in people being held at gunpoint in order to gloat about the fact that he serves only himself and no one else is already a personal enemy in my book. What, are you a pathetic wimp or are you going to stand up to the little bitty super-jerk, huh?? LOL.

Dude, it's just a silly comic strip. My original remark was just a flippant, off-the-cuff comment. It wasn't supposed to be something to be microscopically scrutinized. And look, we're actually seriously arguing about the reactions of a talking rat dressed up as a self-centered superhero, handling a situation involving a mugger? I mean, WTF?! It's not worth it. Chill.
