Looking For Something To Do On A Sunday?

Howdy, y'all. No plans on Sunday night except for staring at the wall while experiencing soul crushing boredom?
Well I just wanted to stop by and let everyone know about a dark wave/industrial/gothic-blues night of music at The Pub At The End Of The Universe tomorrow the 26th.

Not only will it be a great night of music, friends and drinks, it could also be a grand opportunity for you other artists and musicians to get out and network with some like-minded individuals.
Show's going to start around 8:00PM.
Hope to see you all out.

Sincerely,
St. Äma of V.O.I.D.

Gendequeer ex nun comic returning to PDX for a show or two....

Hey everyone.

I'll be in PDX for two shows this weekend:

1. Dirty Queer on this Friday at In Other Words. All the details can most easily be found here.

2. Then, on Saturday at Haven Coffee, I'll be doing my only hour show in town this year. All the info you might (or might not) need (written in third person 'cause it sounds cooler that way):

Kelli Dunham lived in Portland not so long ago. Now she lives in New York.
The difference between the two cities is striking, and Kelli has turned it
into, if not comedy gold, at least comedy hemp:

"No one cares if you cry on the subway in New York. It doesn't even get
you your own seat. But if you cry on the bus in Portland, everyone wants
to help. You get offered things. A kleenex. A vegan cookie. Sliding scale
energy work"

Kelli will return to Portland for her first time in a year and a half to
co-emcee the second anniversary of Dirty Queer at In Other Words. In
addition, she will be spinning a whole hour of comic tales at Haven Coffee
on January 10, 2009 at 7 PM. Haven is located at 3551 SE Division St
Portland, OR 97202 (503) 236-6890.

Kelli, who is a Fresh Fruit award recipient for her one woman shows and
work in the New York club scene, tours nationally and has performed at
venues great and small in the queer circuit. This summer she returned to
her native Wisconsin to be a part of Lacrosse Wisconsin Pride, where she
spent a weekend with the queer performers there in what she called
"National Lampoon's Drag Queen Vacation." She recently appeared on the
Diana Cage show on Sirius Satellite Radio and had the host
speechless...three times.

You can read more about Kelli, watch videos and listen to audio from her
second comedy CD "Almost Pretty" on her website www.kellidunham.com.

There will be a five dollar cover (more if you can, less if you can't) at
the Haven show, and a dress up contest. The person who best dresses to the
"Almost Pretty" theme (as determined by an independent panel of three
judges) will win a free copy of Kelli's CD as well as a grab bag of prizes
from Riot Grrrl Ink, Kelli's supporting and producing label.

Hello! Some friends and I are going to Portland next weekend and would like to check out some local acts from the musicians in the area.

I just saw the project, Bird Costumes (from the pdx area) last night, and it was really amazing. We're into experimental-jazz, noise music, indie-pop, pop punk. Anything fun and exciting.

In Vancouver we have a number of weird art spaces/warehouses that support the artists/musicians due to serious lack of venues in the city. We'd be interested in seeing what Portland has in that respect.

Any websites that have local listings, or venue sites would be appreciated.

Thank youuuuuuuu.

Help With A Show in September?

Greetings, fine people of the PDX.

My name is Ainjel Emme. I'm a singer/songwriter from Austin, currently in Los Angeles "livin' the dream" (cause every girl dreams of waiting tables and living in a shoebox apartment, right?).

I have a special place in my heart for Portland, and I'm happy to say that I'm on the way up for a visit in late September. My music has made a few friends in your fine city, and they might like to see me play while I'm there.

I'm looking for a place to play on Friday the 26th, and I need your help in finding a venue. Know somebody? Playing a show and have some room on the bill for an opener? In-store? Cafe? House party? Street corner? ;)

My info:
MySpace
Facebook
Official Site
(you can ask me for my email if it's pertinent)

Anyone who can successfully put me in touch with a venue / contact / band, please come down to the show so I can buy you a beer. Or a scotch. Or a shirley temple. :)

Thank you so much, and have a lovely day.

xo
Æ

(xposted with love in a few related communities. thanks.)

Baron Von Goolo wants YOU!

Is Halloween your favorite holiday? Or do you just get a huge kick out of
dressing up and scaring the holy h-e-double-hell out of people? Then you
might want to hang out at FrightTown this September and October.

The FrightTown haunted house is the biggest and scariest haunted house in
the whole Portland metro, and we'll be reopening our doors at the Portland
Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, October 4, for a whole new season of thrills
and screams. Not too many people realize that all that horror is actually a
non-profit production by the 1031 Community Theatre - and every year about
this time we look far and wide for the best and scariest new volunteers we
can find. We have positions for actors, set decorators, set builders, makeup
artists, costume designers and more, for every level of experience from rank
amateur to polished pro. And since we're a local non-profit arts collective,
if your school or company has some sort of community service requirement, we
can help you meet it by scaring the crap out of people. That's a good deal.

Preparations have already begun and we'll be starting Scare School training
soon. Go to 1031theatre.org or frighttown.com for more details, or if you
want to sign up, click on the banner below.

Happy Halloween!

http://www.baronvongoolo.com/gool/beagool.html

A Most Excellent Review from Side-Line (7/8) & a Seattle Show in September!

SD6 - Between Noise and Transmission (23db Records)
Posted on 16 May, 2007 - Formed from the ashes of the band Omnibox, SD6's sound is roughly comparable to that of Assemblage 23 with a honeyed touch of eighties-era new romanticism. While the former likeness is rather obvious considering since Tom Shear (A23's mastermind) produced this disc, it is the latter aspect that lends Sd6 a remarkably sensual sheen. For example, the sultry trip-hop drum loop of "We Are As One" is seductive. Pairing Brandon Jerwa's velvet croon with a hint of crystalline synth and the shadow of Jessica Blackshear's foggy lilt, it is a recipe that results in a delectable down-tempo dirge. Proving her own vocal prowess, Blackshear dominates "Untruth". Painting a tale of destroyed trust in torrid blues, her presence is accented with peals of snare and a meaty baritone bass line, heightening its drama while instilling rhythmic flare. If something a bit punchier better suits one's palate, "Believe" crackles with a buzzing synth, brisk snare, and bass pad alliance. Conjoined in a keen marching cadence, their headstrong march adds emphasis to both Jerwa's lofty vocals as well as its fragile arpeggios. Armed with a terse bass line, "Free" concludes this affair with gusto. Anthemic and defiant, snares clack to a stopwatch-like tick over this deep gruff rhythm. Jerwa's vocals ascend from stoic baritone verses to a determined alto chorus, the newfound confidence in his rising timbre echoed through serene halcyon waves and soprano droplets of fuzzy synth. With the additional assistance of Shear's deft production, Between Noise and Transmission proves to be a pleasant vacation through SD6's own embittered and often lush futurepop world. (VM: 7/8) Vlad M.
Send article to a friend

ASSEMBLAGE 23 + SD6 + GOD MODULE

Live at El Corazon ($15)

September 9, 2007

Doors @ 8 / Show @ 9

** Tickets available at MusicWerks **
