Dragonflight LARPs in Seattle, WA [27 May 2009|06:44pm]

lance_lake
Just a reminder..

If you want to run a LARP of your own creation at Dragonflight (http://www.dragonflight.org), then the deadline to get me a write up (Minimum players, Max players, Time to run it, Description and name of the game) is June 1st at 8am PST.

If you want to run a premade LARP we are already running, then the deadline is June 15th at 8am PST.

Both will allow you to earn points which will get you into the convention for free, get food, crash space at the hotel, etc (Note, you need to earn enough points to get these rewards. See http://www.5thWallGaming.com for details).

No matter what though, don't forget to stop by the LARP area at Dragonflight and say hi. :)

Mark Your Calendars: It's time to Shamble, or Fight the Good Fight! [18 May 2009|08:12am]

phasmaphobic
May 30th is "May of the Dead" Zombie Day at Guardian Games. It's an all-day 11 AM to 10 PM (and later, for the adults and night owls) event. Events include: Two planned demos for my own newly-published survival RPG Cannibal Contagion, two separate 8-player prize tournaments of Left 4 Dead on the XBOX 360 (and all-day general playing of Left 4 Dead as well), two demos of the now out-of-print exclusive board game Last Night on Earth, some full-expansion tournaments of Zombies!!! the Board Game, six select zombie movies playing non-stop on the projector screen, a zombies-themed recurring D&D campaign, a zombies-themed demo scenario for the RPGA, some prize rounds of Zombie Flux, and multiple on-site zombie makeup artists - if you get made up as a zombie, you get a store-wide discount at the store for the day, and you are eligible for special prizes too!

I'm giving away free PDF copies of Cannibal Contagion to anyone who playes in the demo sessions, as well. You should all come. It will be a grand affair indeed!

I'll likely post an actual flier in the next week. But for now, mark your calendars, and come join the contagious fun.

Do you pronounce it SAY-tuh or is it SAT-uh? And what's your OS flavor?

Related: DAY-tuh or DAT-uh?

Cross-posting to [info]damnportlanders, because I'm just THAT curious to know what other nerds think.

Fellow Whedonites? [01 Feb 2009|12:26pm]

Does anyone know of a public place where I might be able to catch the premiere of Dollhouse? Or conversely... does anyone have cable and a kick-ass TV, and want to turn your home into a meet-up of the amazingly geeky? I promise I will bring a six-pack or bottle of the hosts' Beverage Of Choice!

I'm reserving judgement until I actually see it (though I do have a signed Dollhouse poster... yes... signed in person at ComicCon) but I'll admit that all my little fangirlish hopes are that it's going to be spectacular.

Don't know about it?

Help me find this laptop!! [22 Jan 2009|03:20am]

deadat25
So, long story short my sister had her laptop stolen from her car at work back in September. And I know it's been a while but I'm hoping with a little help from everyone here we can track it down. It's a Powerbook G4 17 inch laptop, Aluminum case and lovingly worn keys.  Serial is V73175G6MVZ, and if your laptop matches(Pop out the battery and check) then there's a reward for getting it back. Maybe you bought a laptop off craigslist, maybe from a pawnshop or friend. No questions asked. I just want to get this back for my sister because a lot of her artwork was saved. Again, no questions asked, just email me and help me get this laptop back. Reward if found and I get contacted.

Also if you can think of any other websites or places I should post this so people can see and help me find it, feel free to let me know. I just want to get this thing back for her.

Windows XP Pro broke [20 Jan 2009|01:46pm]

lance_lake
Came back from the convention (it went well) and found that the checkdisk I left running (for the time it would've taken would've been to long when I started it) messed up the OS.

So after trying to get it back working, I had to bite the bullet and format C:. I really hated doing this (all my old webpages were on there). But... I decided that I don't want to look back.

So now, I reinstall XP pro. 1 adapter is showing as working and a second one is showing as not. I try to update the drivers, but it doesn't work. I can't get online. At all.

But I can ping 127.0.0.1.. So that would lead me to believe that it's working. But no info is being sent or received.

I didn't change the cords when I reinstalled, but I'm getting desperate, so I see if there is a second plugin that perhaps is just waiting for a cord. The one the cord in plugged into now is not giving me any data transmitting and just showing me an orange light and a red light (with the orange flashing slightly). So no heartbeat.

I can't ping the gateway.. or anywhere outside of it... When I run "ipconfig /all", I get NOTHING except the title. Not even 0's. The windows process window under networking is telling me that I don't have a network card installed. If I try to repair it, I get "failed to query tcp/ip settings of the connection".

So, I'm pretty much out of luck. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Newcomer Couple Looking for 3.5 D&D Game [18 Jan 2009|09:50am]

arcane_scholar
[ mood | awake ]

Howdy everyone,

My husband and I are looking to join a game. We just moved here from Georgia. We're in our mid 20s, attending college, and have been playing for just over a year. We're looking for a weekly, or biweekly game in the evenings. Anytime after 4pm is great, though not on Wednesdays because I have class until 9pm.

We love roleplay and character development, so we're looking for a group which enjoys that type of atmosphere, though it doesn't have to have RP constantly, we like a good hack and slash session as much as anyone. We don't mind rule lawyers, as long as they aren't assholes, and we're looking for a group that is laid back and fun, not elitist. We live in a tiny apartment, so couldn't host, and are car-free so the location of the game has to be accessible by Trimet. We're in PSU housing, so bonus points for being close but we're definitely willing to travel for a great group.

Feel free to ask any questions, we're ready to start right away, and if there is a trial period to make sure the group meshes we're completely cool with that.

Looking for GameStorm LARP GMs [12 Jan 2009|11:19pm]

morbydcuriosity
Hey all,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are still looking for some LARP GMs for GameStorm 11. Due to some events transpiring (or rather not transpiring...we were going to be losing space, but now we have all the space promised for the whole weekend) we have more space to fill!

GameStorm is awesome to work at and we LOVE to network together and help each other out, so don't feel like you're all on your own! LARP games usually take between 2-4 hours, and have an hour between each to do setup and strike (take down).

I am the LARP coordinator for GameStorm 11, so if you'd like to talk about running a game, let me know! You can email me at (larp at gamestorm dot org)

For more on GameStorm 11, please visit http://www.gamestorm.org

Ta!

Pretty much my favorite FPS of all time was Tribes 2.

Though they "ran out of CD keys" when it was released for free ~4 years ago... and then the entire master server was shut down in November.

A community patch that allows you to make your own account, and connect to a alternate server, has been released. Download to the full game is there as well.

Any other Tribes players still around?

Alternatives to Comcast internet - your recommendations? [05 Jan 2009|10:31pm]

myrkrel
Hello Portland,

My girlfriend and I are moving to a new house in a rural part of the Hillsboro / Cornelius area, and Comcast doesn't have service there - so I'm researching the alternatives.  I'm a gamer and also work a lot online so I'd prefer something with the lowest latency possible.  It seems like these are our options:

- Verizon DSL - no FIOS available though :(
- Clear WiMax - (surprisingly they do have service there)
- Satellite Internet  - (not really an option at all I imagine - I've heard horror stories about the latency with games)
- Wireless / Mobile Broadband / 3G - (Verizon, AT&T, etc) - not sure if these will work reliably enough for gaming though

Qwest and AT&T DSL are apparently not available.

Anyone have any other ideas or remarks about these options?  I would like to try Clear WiMax but I've read not so great things about Clearwire in general so far.

Thanks in advance!

Where should I go to acquire all my D&D, (dice, campaign books, battle grid, figurines) and other such pen and paper roleplay, gear? I'm at 18th and Park, so the closer there, the better, but I'll go just about anywhere for a great shop. It must be accessible by PT though, since I'm car-free. Thanks folks!

Is anyone planning on going to GenCon Indy in 2009? I'm being told that I must go, no excuses but I'd prefer to have a travel buddy (or five) and possibly someone to share a room with.

I will know people at the convention, but no-one from the Portland area as of yet. I'm starting my planning now so if any of you will be there, please pipe up! And if nothing else, perhaps we can have dinner together once we're there. :}

Thanks!

Neverdale LARP, Fantasy/Medieval, January 3rd 6:00PM, Portland Oregon [07 Dec 2008|09:29am]

morbydcuriosity
Neverdale is a home-brewed world using rules inspired by the Mind's Eye Theatre system (Rock-Paper-Scissors for combat, etc.). It is a fantasy-medieval type of world with faeries, demons, dwarves and elves. The game is being run by Michael Birkes, who has run several games at GameStorm, as well as an 8-year long Vampire Chronicle.

This event is free, and all experience levels are welcome. Due to some of the mature themes in the game, we do ask for players to be at least 16 years old.

You have a choice of playing a major character (heavily in the plot) or a minor character (kinda in the background, good if you'd like to observe more, or if you're a little shy, or it's your first LARP and/or you don't want a major role). Just let us know what you'd like to play.

We are still finalizing the venue, but the game will be between 6:00PM-11:00PM on January 3rd. In order to ensure you have a character, the ST/GM will need your RSVP by December 29th. You can RSVP at our event calendar.
If you'd rather not register on the site to RSVP for the event, you can also email admin@shaglarp.com and let us know you'll be there, and what type character you'd like to play. Your information will be passed to the ST.

To view more information about the game, characters, and system, please visit this forum thread for a great write up.

Next month (February) will be a Divus Ex game where you play the gods of love!

Demon the Fallen LARP one-shot game, Portland Oregon, December 6th, 6:00PM [19 Nov 2008|08:10pm]

morbydcuriosity

There is a Demon the Fallen LARP one-shot game that will be run December 6th, at 6:00PM at the Portland Hobby Fair (SE Foster, Portland, Oregon) after hours. The game is a modified system based off of White Wolf’s Laws of the Fallen and Laws of the Wild. The event is free, and open to all experience levels, but the maturity level is moderate (no people under 15 please).

This event is RSVP only (so that characters may be made for you), and responses must be received by December 1st.

To view more information on this event please check out this forum post.

To RSVP for this event, you can register and submit an RSVP here, or if you’d rather not register, please email admin@shaglarp.com so they know you would like a character.

 Thanks!

tumbleweed664
Portland Geek Community,

I just graduated from college, and am looking for a tabletop rpg group. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but if there is anyone out there looking for a player (or two, one of my friends is in the same boat), I would be down, from DnD to nWOD to whatever cool, obscure indie game you just picked up (though we aren't really interested in LARPing).

Anyhoo, if your looking for players or open to adding more, totally respond. If you know someone who might be or have a good idea of a better place for me to look, feel free to post that too.

Thanks,
Ryan
