Bees swarm motorists on N.J. Turnpike

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike have to cope every day with traffic jams, pollution and even the occasional deer.

They ran into a new obstacle Saturday as thousands of honeybees swarmed around their vehicles.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Joseph Orlando said the swarm came from a beekeeper's beehive that apparently fell beside the highway in Cherry Hill.

The Turnpike Authority was looking for a beekeeper to deal with the problem.

I find it baffling that the two candidates running for president are even at the polls and that RACE is the deciding factor. I've heard a lot of bogus reasons to cover up for it, but the fact is there are a lot of racists in this country and a lot of them vote.
I'm actually really sad about this.

    The Dark Knight
It is very, very good. In fact, it's probably the best live-action superhero movie ever. Christian Bale continues to make a damn fine Batman and an even better Bruce Wayne. Heath Ledger's joker is broken and awesome.

More on that--along with spoilers--below the cut )

Today is one week at the new place.
For about a hundred and three years or so, there was a public swimming pool in NE Portland at 20th and Glisan, it became a local landmark, especially in the Summertime the kids loved it, go pool, way to be a pool, it's great to have a swimming pool, hey let's go swimming in the pool!

I moved into the neighborhood last Friday, exactly two blocks away in fact, and now after one hundred and three years the swimming pool is closed, because it suddenly started leaking 600 gallons of water a day.

I didn't know the pool was there until I read the story about it today.

Well anyway, I'm sorry. I'm sorry Portland! Remember that it's cheaper to buy me smokes than it is to buy a new pool!

You are what you write. Sort of.
There's an interesting disparity between how a person comes across online and how they are in person, sometimes.

I was reminded of this at a photoshoot yesterday, when I met the guy from the magazine who set up all the styling and models for the shoot. From the e-mails we've been exchanging, I expected the guy to be, well... basically a pretentious hipster wad. Yeah, snap judgement, I know. But in person? He was totally relaxed-and-groovy and easy to work with. Sure, I'd rather have it that way than the other way around, but it's always surprising when it happens.

It's especially surprising when someone turns out to be *less* uptight than you expected. See, after having long-term internet-based interactions with a few different people, and then meeting them in person, a lot of times they're all nervous and uptight at first. Then, once they get used to you and warm up a bit, that's when you start seeing the person you saw online.

Then, there are the people who type like morons, and turn out to be cool and of reasonable intelligence in person. That happens quite a bit. I wish those people would learn how to friggin' write an e-mail though, so I wouldn't go in expecting to hate them. :p

Anyhoo, it does happen occasionally that the person I meet is exactly like how I envisioned them from their online persona ([info]phrassie comes to mind as one), but it's pretty darned rare that I meet somebody and they're instantly *more* outgoing than I expected them to be. So yeah, magazine guy was a rare and happy surprise.

In other news, I followed the advice of some anonymous commenter and laid down the $4 to snag Dr. Horrible, and yes, it is AWESOME. My only question: was the anonymous commenter a Friend who forgot to log in, or was it one of Joss' minions? (come on, you know Joss has minions.)

    That's all.

    Gateway Booze

Jason Wilson, the spirits writer for the Washington post had a piece last week about the Manhattan. A nice article overall, but I especially liked the following quote:

“The Manhattan is the cocktail that every grown man comes of age upon.”

How very true in my case. Though I’ve always loved drinking, and though my tastes had been maturing before then, the Manhattan is the cocktail the opened up the whole world of cocktails to me. It was through the gateway of the Manhattan that I worked my way to my true cocktailian love: The Old Fashioned.

I am more excited about the upcoming symposium on American whiskeys than I am about any of the others because I hope someone else might have a similar experience. I am, after all, serving the Manhattan.

I'm not sure why, but I have this powerful urge to reply "OH THAT IS SUCH BULLSHIT" in every forum post I read today. Regardless of what it says.

Might actually be accurate in most cases, come to think of it.

Maybe I'm just anxious for the weekend, or just want some attention.

    The Who
VH1 was showing a Who concert last night. I flipped past it as Em and I were sitting on the couch.

    Oh. My. Gosh.

I had enjoyed The Who's music in passing, but had never been a fan. As my musical tastes have changed and matured over time, I've started enjoying the more complex sound of bands like The Who. It's like really good indypop.

Now I just need to get me some albums.

So, Brian saw The Dark Knight last night. He says it was just some big fan boy movie, and that it was boring. Now, if Brian thinks it's boring, I'll probably fall asleep. I probably won't see it until it comes out on DVD anyway, if ever. I just don't care. :/

Today is Friday. I'm going to come home, and work on my quilt. I think I'm going to make myself take a 24-hour break from the internet, starting when I get home from work. I'll just pack up my laptop, and put it away. Or just unplug the internet, and work on my photos. I have pictures that need to be uploaded and shared still. I would like to be on this thing as little as possible this weekend, so help me out. What does one do without the computer box? Ha ha

    Yes, I’m a fan girl. :p
I go back in today for light duty receptionist work. :P I've added looking for receptionist work in my new/less stupid job search but so far as is with everything, they want experience.

Tonight supposedly I'm going to see Dark Knight with Noah, Sarah and her visiting brothers. *bounce* yay!! We wanted to get more people to go with us but it seems everyone we know went and saw it last night.

So I'm extra excited to see Dark Knight because of the Watchmen trailer beforehand and then I saw the trailer on a friend's blog and Ohmygod it uses "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning". SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I love that song so much, the bass on it makes me all squishy feeling. I couldn't help but snicker a bit about it's use before Dark Knight; it was written and recorded as the companion piece to "The End is the Beginning is the End" and both were on the soundtrack to "Batman and Robin" *I've never been more pissed off by a movie before* At least it's being used by a good geek movie now.
Me being me, I couldn't help but notice that lyricly the song, actually both songs work better with the Watchmen story than the B&R crap plot.
