Sydney's at NW 15th and Thurman serves a good cup, and they let me hang my paintings there this month. Show up thru August 1st, store hours 7am to 6pm, and no-frills meet-and-greet this Saturday the 12th 4 - 6pm.

Moving to Portland

I am moving to Portland in a few weeks and I have no idea where I am going to live. I have a job, it's OK I am transferring. I have friends in Portland already. I need to know where I should live, what to do when I am there, what's interesting, etc.

ME: Film/Photography Major, kind of sk8/punk ish, tattooed, gauged ears, gay, I like to drink and dance, not afraid of drugs or "urban" areas, Have mostly lived in the artsy/alter-native areas. I have live in Milwaukee, Phoenix, Chicago, Orlando, and Seattle. I am totally open to new experiences.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

PS. if this doesn't fit into the standards of your comunity I am sorry, but it was the only recently updated community on LJ besides Portland Republicans.

Art supplies for sale, CHEAP!

I am moving and paring down on art supplies, so I put together 2 small starter kits for anyone who is into printmaking or photography and needs a few essentials. Everything is in good used condition.

Photography kit includes:
Developing tank with 2 reels and lid.
4 pairs of new tongs.
Canon loupe (for viewing negatives).
Set of filters.
Spotone 3, negative retouching liquid.
Clear push pins.
Clear plastic protective sleeves for prints.
Dusting cloth.
Dust gun.
$50

I am also including some free paper, because I didn't store it as well as I could have and I am not certain of its condition. There are no guarantees on the paper, but it would be at least worth a try.
Arista Classic VC Fiber Matt Paper, 8x10 (about 1/2 a box)
Ilford Multigrade FB Fiber Paper, 11x14 (less than 1/2 a box)
Kodak Poly Contrast RC Semi Matt, 8x10 (about 1/2 a box)

Printmaking kit includes:
Woodblock support.
A few wood blocks in varying sizes.
Several small zinc plates.
Brayer.
Set of Niji Carving knives, assorted shapes.
Stippling brush.
Leather for sharpening.
Tube of Speedball white ink.
Ink knives.

Other handy items:
Water dish, sponges, scissors, utility knife, homemade nail tools for etching, wooden spoon (can be used as a baren).

Art Opening

I'm having a small art opening tomorrow the 24th at Muse Art and Design on Hawthorne and 42nd. There will be snacks and libations for you all to partake. The work is kinda like leftover stuff from series' I've done over the last three years so there is no theme. It would be nice to see you all or some of you there. It's from 7-9 in the evening. Toy Art Show Looking for Submssions

Toys make everyone happy, they rekindle the experiences of our childhood.
What is your artwork that is related to toys?
Toy Art can be anything toy themed. Bicycles, puppets, sculpture, pinatas, dolls, games, fashion, robots, and more encouraged.
This show is also in search of toy related talent to preform.( Hula hoopers, fire, jugglers, klowns, puppets...)

* We welcome a variety of medium (photography, digital, illustration, collage, mix media, painting. sculpture...) There are no restrictions on size.

I've decided that I want to get my name change done officially, for once and all -- so:

During the month of December, buy an 8x10 print of any of my photos for $20, and help me get my name changed! All proceeds past the cost of my name change will be donated to the Identity Project, which provides funding and assistance for gender variant people in the Portland area to get their name and gender marker changed.

Hope this is appropriate...

My boyfriend and I are moving to Portland sometime after Thanksgiving 2007 (it keeps getting bumped back, raaarrrgh), and we'd just like to acquaint ourselves with local artists, as new friends, collaborators, or even just to tap a few folks with some practical questions. If you live in the area, we would love your advice on housing, getting around, frugal living, arts organizations, galleries open to submissions, etc.

I lived there briefly after college - anyone here remember Gracie's Birdcage, or The Compound warehouse studio/squatter's hive? - and am eager to move back, but I imagine it's changed... last I heard, Zoobomb is still careening through traffic once a month and Reading Frenzy is hanging on by a thread.

It's still under construction, but you can see some of my stuff on this website. Even though I went to school for photography, that experience pretty much sucked all the joy out of the medium, and now I do mixed media/collage stuff and paint. Right now I'm really into making dodgy wee beasties out of ceramics and polyclay, which has me thinking about getting a second degree in animation.

Looking forward to hearing from you....
