Hi all-
This is my first post. I’ve been watching the community for a little while, but I’m mostly a lurker.
I have a proposition… sort of. I live in Bellefonte, PA. It’s a little Victorian town in Central PA. The Main Campus of Penn State is 10 miles away. I know the owner of the
Garman Opera House. It’s an historic opera house that has been converted into a movie and stage theater.
I’ve started talking to her about
How to Be. I know she has almost no chance of getting
Twlight, nor does she want “the vampire movie,” but I
MIGHT be able to get her to carry
How To Be and
Little Ashes. I talked to her about
How to Be today, and she seemed, while not overly interested, at least not against it. I am going to give her the
How to Be press kit to see if I can get a little more interest from her.
But what she really needs are bodies in the seats. If I can tell her, “If you get these movies, people will come.” it might catch her attention. And I’m not talking about lots of people. Right now she is running
Brideshead Revisited. She had 5 people come to the opening last night, and she considered that a “good” crowd. She got 20 for the opening of the new Indiana Jones flick. The most I’ve ever seen the theatre crowded was for
Return of The King, and sometimes my husband and I are the only ones in there. So it’s not like I’m thinking hundreds of people.
I guess what I’m asking is, if I can get Catherine to carry
How to Be, how many people would come? With 60,000+ students at PSU, are there 20-25 who would be willing to drive the 10 miles to Bellefonte to see Rob on-screen? A bunch who would come sometime during a 2 week run? It’s rated R so the high school kids (most of them) are out, but what about PSU students, Lockhaven U, Altoona Rob fans? Especially if she was the only theater in the area showing it?
If she runs it, will you come?
No guarantees, of course, but there’s a chance. If I can garner enough interest, my chances are better. Let’s face it, if I can’t get her to play it, I’ll have to wait for the DVD because I doubt the Carmike or the Premiere Theaters will carry either
How to Be or
Little Ashes. The movie goers here are more action/adventure oriented.
Maybe I'm jumping the gun, and if I should wait before I try, please let me know. I have no idea what the distribution plan is for
How to Be yet. Maybe I have no chance at all because it's only going to be released in the big cities.
Please reply to my post or email me privately. And if you know Rob fans that aren’t on this community, share this to spread the word and have them email me privately. I know Central PA is a wasteland of cinematic cultural diversity, but the Garman is really cool inside and it's nice to support an independently owned theater. PLUS the ticket price is only
$5!!To quote Cartman: “Punch and Pie!”
Thanks.
