Singfest (Day 2) Brendon threw up?
There were no signs of the usual fancy Victorian circus shows that most would associate with Panic At The Disco’s stage performances.

Instead, lead singer Brandon Urie and the band stripped it all down to just them and the music and fortunately so, because they might have baked themselves to death in the usual elaborate costumes under the merciless Singaporean sun.

Despite a few technical glitches which saw the microphones go off, Panic still managed to deliver a intense performance which had the 10,000-strong audience singing and grooving along.

In fact, it was so intense that Brandon, who was drenched in perspiration, ran to the back of the stage to throw up after “Nine In The Afternoon”.

lol Brandon :/

Jonas Brother bassist calls out Panic At The Disco.
This was posted awhile back on his blog. The Jonas Brother bassist,Greg Garbowsky, blogged about his reaction to Pretty. Odd. and PATD.

i'm embarrassed to say this, but i am enjoying listening to the new Panic at the Disco album, "Pretty. Odd." which came out last week. They were the band i loved to hate; bad music and bad makeup to go with it. but now i find myself driving around alone listening to the new album screaming, "why do you have to be so good?!?! agghhh!" after nearly running over a hobo, i realized the reason it's so good is because it blatantly rips-off the beatles' "sgt. peppers" album. it's worth noting for those of you keeping score that "sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band" is also widely accepted as the greatest album of all-time. the beatles were such a phenomenal band, that even mediocre bands who mimic their style 41 years later will still sound awesome. For teenagers on a steady diet of fall out boy, this will likely be their first introduction to a psychedelic influence in pop music. I hope this somehow begins a musical journey for these kids which ultimately leads to discovering the works of the fab four. "Pretty. Odd." isn't about Panic at the disco - it's a testament to how great the Beatles still are.

unfortunately this record is listenable from start to finish, which is exactly what i keep doing. i really really didn't want this to happen. but it did. cheers to you panic at the disco. well done.

everybody rips-off everybody; they just happened to rip-off the best. smart move.

...Bitch, please!! The shit-hole that you're in rips off every band or boy-band in existence!

Vote for Pretty. Odd. on NPR
Saw this over on [info]bandslashmania and thought it should be posted here as well.

From NPR: Take The Poll: Best CDs of the Year (So Far)

We have hit the halfway point in 2008. What are you loving so far? Below is a list of 50 albums to get you thinking. Choose five of these, or submit a write-in for whatever isn't on this list, but in the end choose only five total CDs. If we get a groundswell for something not on the list, we'll will add it.
You can also put the poll on your site blog or facebook page by clicking the share button at the bottom of the list.

To write in your choice, put a comment on the blog. Voting ends July 2.

To the Poll... )

Surely there are more than 247 people (the count right now) that think Pretty. Odd. is in the top 5, right?

Panic at the Disco Scales Down a Little
The last time Panic at the Disco toured through Grand Rapids, it packed the DeltaPlex Arena for a cabaret-themed spectacle complete with elaborate costumes and vaudevillian dancers.

Even Brendon Urie, the band's frontman, agrees it was a bit much. Perhaps dropping the exclamation point brought the band a new level of maturity, or perhaps the realities of the industry necessitate it -- the show is in the much-smaller Orbit Room and isn't sold out yet -- but this week's Panic concert will be a more stripped-down affair.

"With this one, we wanted to play a little bit smaller places. We wanted to scale it down and bring it down to a more personal level," Urie said from a tour stop in Canada. "But we still have some tricks up our sleeves. We still have some set design and some video content, and it's still theatrical, but just in a different sense."

The more intimate approach is ironic, since the band's new album, "Pretty.Odd.," is a sprawling, ambitious affair that would seem to call for a big treatment on stage.

For the band's followup to the overnight success of "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," Panic started thinking big. Songs are stuffed with "Sgt. Pepper's"-style horn and string sections, church bells, handclaps and a kitchen-sink variety of other sounds.

Urie admits the sound is tough to recreate onstage with only five guys -- himself, guitarist Ryan Ross, bassist Jon Walker, drummer Spencer Smith and an extra touring musician.

"This time around, we were more aware that we would be playing these songs for the next couple of years. But we never didn't put anything in because we felt that we wouldn't be able to play it live," he said. "If it sounded good, we'd keep it in the songs. A lot of stuff will be kind of tough to pull off live to make it sound exactly like the record."

So if missing the horn part on "Nine in the Afternoon" is a problem for you, don't worry. The Honda Civic Tour, which Panic is headlining, contains plenty of music in a similar vein: Motion City Soundtrack, the Hush Sound and Phantom Planet round out the bill.

Talking First Cars With Panic at the Disco

Jon Walker, Panic at the Disco

What was your first car?
An ‘89 Ford Probe. It was yellow and didn’t have an exhaust system. If the car was running at under 10 mph, you had to kick it in neutral and pump the break to avoid stalling at a red light.

Did you trick it out in any way?
I bought it off my cousin and he had one of those black leather bras on the front of it. It looked like a bumble bee.

Anything memorable happen in that car?
It had a hatch back so it was the perfect drive-in car. I don’t remember many of the movies.

Panic At the Disco Get (Cough) ‘Green’
Now, personally, I [John Norris] always took the Panic At the Disco song “That Green Gentleman” to be more about the, um, 4:20 club than the Sierra Club, if ykwim. The band, however, wouldn’t cop to that when I talked to them yesterday…Whatever.

But Panic did want to talk about the environmental consciousness of their current trek, the 2008 Honda Civic Tour. Before each night’s show, singer Brendan Urie appears in a video, encouraging fans to take part in an “eco-contest” to decide how a large chunk of change raised on the tour will be used to help the planet. (For more info on that, go here.)

Brendan also explained to me that the band is working on the tour with two non-profit eco organizations: Reverb, which facilitates environmentally friendly touring; and Global Inheritance, which seeks to inspire more eco-activism. “Plus, at each show there’s a few things to get kids involved,” he told me. “Honda have a bike setup where you can charge your phone, and there’s pamphlets and information. Lots of good stuff.”

Ryan Ross said the band has been doing good things as well, from traveling on a biodiesel bus, to re-using plastics, and recycling more backstage. “It’s been cool for us because we’re young guys — we’re still learning about what’s going on, too. So it’s been personal,” he said. “I think it’s been good for everybody to try and do a little something.”

Now fellas, back to this “Green Gentleman”? “Green can be so many things,” Brendan said with a smile. “You’re new to something…You’re jealous…It could be my favorite color…” But Ryan stopped me in my tracks: “You’ll never know, John. You’ll never know!”

Oh, ok. Green. I see. *nods head* Plants are green too. Certain plants these boys have gotten a liking too, I believe, are green too. ;)

If you are going to be a news article writer or whatever, do some research and find out what their names are... It's not that hard. Geez.

Oh, and children, TAG YOUR ENTRIES. And please look to see if things are posted before you post. They usually are.

Panic At The Disco Talk About New, Stripped-Down Show At NYC Concert, By John Norris
Band's new look is also eco-friendly.

NEW YORK — If Panic at the Disco didn't do a complete 180, musically and aesthetically, with their latest album Pretty. Odd., it was at least a left turn: Beatlesque arrangements, strings, horns, a pastoral vibe and wood-grain-and-flowers artwork that seemed to have come straight from late-'60s San Francisco.
