Ryan Ross on 149 Pieces
Hey PATD fans! (Gosh, I haven't posted here in forever!)

My friends Amanda, Shannon and I started 149 Pieces- an organization to help raise money for Autism research and to build awareness of the growing epidemic.
We work with artists and musicians and auction off their work. All proceeds we receive benefit ASD research through Autismspeaks.org.
There is a drawing of Ryan Ross available for bidding now on our Ebay account. We thought some of you may like to check it out and possibly bid on it.
Click the picture below to view the listing.

Ps. Add us on Myspace if you support. Thanks!

You should not use the term 'epidemic' when talking about Autism, as it is not a disease. I find that extremely offensive.

First, Autism is a growing epidemic. Millions of places such as Time Magazine, MSNBC, Pediatric Services and many many others prove this as a fact.
Second, not all epidemics are contagious. They say obesity is an epidemic, pretty sure you can't catch that.

Sorry you find it offensive, but I wouldn't pull information out of nowhere.

The definition of an epidemic is a disease affecting or tending to affect a disproportionately large number of individuals within a population, community, or region at the same time so, again, it should not be used in this context.

Sorry, but you read it out of context.

–noun
3. a temporary prevalence of a disease.
4. a rapid spread or increase in the occurrence of something: ex. an epidemic of riots.

I really hate to butt in, but how was that read out of context? Given the tone of urgency in your post, once could only assume you meant, oh, I don't know, the most common definition of a word, not the fourth. That's a vocabulary mistake on your part.

I agree with above comment. Autism isn't anything that can necessarily be prevented so far or that can contagiously be spread, it's a birth disorder, not aids or HIV.

well a simple google search just told me that 'Time' does not prove this as a fact, as well as scientific american.

and regardless of your facts, by the standards of the definition of epidemic, autism is not.

Definition of epidemic-
4. a rapid spread or increase in the occurrence of something: ex. an epidemic of riots.

And I'm pretty sure there's more information that shows that it is. There's even charts you can look and if you have any type of common sense, you'll see for yourself how the numbers rapidly increase.

Hey guys, sorry to butt in, but there's no need to get, for a lack of a better term, mean. I understand that you have a disagreement, and we encourage discussion here, but please, keep it friendly. Thanks :)

it's alright, it happens. and i love it here so nothing is going to stop me from commenting! =P

i also saw you trying to intervene and make things happy again, so it comforts me knowing that this community isn't being run by someone who doesn't have the good sense to try to end all the bickering! ^-^
(those kinds of communities aren't fun at all)

haha. So, are you wondering why you haven't posted in a while? I think you got your justification after all the attacks. I honestly didn't read that much into the word choice, but regardless of any of that good luck! and that drawing is quite an amazing representation.

I also have an autistic relative and I have seen that more and more people are born with autism. I am very proud that you are doing this. It is a wonderful program, and one that is truly needed. Thank you! I am on the other hand disappointed that some people in this community were downright rude and misrepresentative of this community. You were only trying to help and you had people jumping down your throats. I will apologize for the way that you were treated.
