| Patricia Arquette calls off Divorce |
[Jul. 10th, 2009|11:40 am] |
July 9th 2009 21:56
PATRICIA ARQUETTE has officially reconciled with her actor husband THOMAS JANE, six months after filing for divorce. Arquette cited "irreconcilable differences" as she sought to end her two-year marriage to the The Punisher star in January (09) - but she has had second thoughts. The couple reportedly reunited just weeks after the split and marked the reconciliation by sending out joint invitations to friends and family for a party at their Los Angeles home. And now Arquette has formally asked a Los Angeles court to dismiss her divorce petition, according to TMZ.com.

| Patricia Arquette at The Paley Center for Media (Feb 2009) |
[Jun. 8th, 2009|04:16 pm] |
Patricia Arquette's Allison DuBois has visions and sees dead people in "Medium," Glenn Gordon Caron's eerie NBC murder/mystery series. Arquette discusses her directorial debut and Emmy-winning performance as DuBois, a real-life, self-proclaimed medium. (Video Behind the cut; Hulu.com vids tend to slow up a page's loading process. At least for me anyhow).

| On CBS, Will "Medium" Remain Well-Done? |
[Jun. 7th, 2009|05:15 pm] |
On Monday night, NBC aired what it billed as the "finale" of Medium, the drama starring Patricia Arquette as a psychic crime solver and mother of three in Phoenix. When my partner and I saw that word "finale" in the teaser for Monday's episode, we nearly fainted. In the five years since its debut, Medium has become the only network show we watch without fail every week, and it's right in the middle of several long-term story arcs too juicy to be wrapped up in a single hour. But, mercifully, NBC's teaser was misleading. What the peacock was too proud to add is that after a heated negotiation at last month's TV upfronts, the show was acquired by CBS, where it'll be airing on Friday nights starting in the fall, in between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3ers. This "psychic sandwich" programming makes a certain amount of sense for attracting viewers (even if Medium fans may be irked at the implied equation between Patricia Arquette's smart, complex, grownup character and Jennifer Love Hewitt's busty nitwit). But Friday night prime time is known as the "death slot" for a reason; it's the place networks traditionally move shows on their way to being canceled.
Even sadder than the idea of a world with no Medium is the possibility that the show will lose its character in an attempt to save its skin. The show runner, Glenn Gordon Caron (who also created Moonlighting and the short-lived but much-mourned Now and Again) has sworn that the content and quality of the show won't change at its new venue. I just hope Caron—and everyone involved in producing the show—knows what it is that sets Medium apart from your average "she-sees-dead-people" procedural: The show is the richest and truest portrait of marriage and family life currently on television. As Allison and Joe DuBois, Arquette and Jake Weber make living with the person you love look as annoying, as demanding, and as rewarding as it is in real life. They fight (not cute, made-for-TV squabbles but substantial debates about work, money, and children), they have sex, they kibitz about Allison's latest murder case while going to bed ... and then they grab a precious few hours of sleep before she's awakened by another clue-filled nightmare. The show weaves together the supernatural and the quotidian so skillfully that Allison's job—essentially, she's a professional dreamer for the D.A.'s office—starts to seem like a metaphor for the plight of every working mother, psychic or not. Allison is so overcommitted to both work and family that she multitasks in her sleep.
There are so many other things to love about Medium: Patricia Arquette's unapologetically normal body size, the skillfully drawn secondary characters, and the refreshingly uncute performance of Maria Lark as Bridgette, the DuBois' eccentric middle daughter. (For a glimpse of Bridgette's awesomeness, watch this behind-the-scenes clip.) Please, CBS, don't try to "add value" to your new "franchise" by messing with Medium. Just give Caron, Arquette, and the rest of them the keys to their new offices—and leave them alone to do what they do so well.

Scanned by crazyboltonlass
JUNE 1-14th, 2009: HIGHLIGHTS Medium (6/1) 10/9c, NBC
The Dubois Family can't seem to catch a break. First, a vengeful ghost took up residence in Allison's head. Then Ariel became hooked on anti-anxiety meds. Finally, Medium, was nearly canceled ---before it was offered a last-minute reprieve on CBS' 2009 Fall Lineup. The Trouble Continues in tonight's season 5's closer---the show's last episode on NBC--- When Allison (Patricia Arquette, left) has visions that Joe and kids wind up dead. "She has a dream set in the very near future," Reveals creator-exect producer, Glenn Gordon Caron. "She opens the door and a guy says 'I couldn't let you eat alone on the one-year aniversary of your family being massacared'". (The dude then appears in her waking life---as a DEA Agent assigned to a murder case she's investigating.) When an event occurs that threaten Allison's gift, she's forced to make a choice; keep her loved ones out of harms way or sacrifice her own well-being. "The big questions end up being, can she protect her family and will she still have a gift? That's the cliff-hanger." Says Caron. Lucky for us, we'll get to find out the answers. ---Dana Meltzer Zepeda.
"We have all kinds of things in mind for the future---but nothing I can talk about at the moment!" --- Exec Producer, Glenn Gordon Caron.

| 2009 Emmy Award(s) Submissions |
[Jun. 5th, 2009|04:17 pm] |
While I recieved news earlier (from crazyboltonlass) about the list of Nomination Submissions for the Emmy's, I only just got around to post any news about it. MEDIUM has eight submissions for Lead, Supportng and Guest Actor/Actress. While this is good news, the only thing that really puzzles me is Jake Weber in the SUPPORTING ACTOR section? How does that work exactly when he's practically the Lead Actor on the show? I could've seen this happening in Season when he really was "Supporting actor", but not so much now. Supporting is more like David Cubitt and Miguel Sandoval.
Below is a list of the drama and comedy shows, stars, and guest stars who have been submitted for consideration in the 2009 Prime Time Emmy Awards, coming this fall. Some submissions, obviously, are more likely to receive voter love than others. Who do you think stands the best chance of being nominated in each of these categories? Follow the jump for the list of nominees, and share your thoughts ...

| Patricia Arquette's Christmas Cards for a Cause |
[Jun. 3rd, 2009|02:54 pm] |
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by rohgna Perhaps she saw it in a dream? Patricia Arquette, now a household name due to her fame on the hit TV show Medium, took some time out from her busy schedule to design this Christmas card that joined a long list of other hand-illustrated celebrity Christmas cards for a special Hope for the Holidays campaign created by Yahoo and Old Navy. This brightly colored Christmas card features a collage of ordinary snowflake cutouts with the greeting Eid Mubarak, which is a Muslim phrase that is used to congratulate one another during their festivals. Patricia Arquette was born in the Windy City but raised in Virginia and California. Arquette’s mother was Jewish and her father was a convert to Islam. Her entire family is steeped in talent. All of her siblings – David (and sister in-law Courteney Cox), Rosanna, Richmond and Alexis – have pursued acting careers. Patricia got her start in the biz at the age of 18 and has had a long run of steady work including such hit movies as Ed Wood, Stigmata, Flirting with Disaster and Wildflower. She is currently going into her fifth season in her star role as Allison DuBois on Medium for which she won the Emmy Award in 2005 for Outstanding Lead Actress. Patricia has not been as lucky in love having gone through divorces with both Nicolas Cage and Thomas Jane. She had a daughter with Thomas Jane and also has a son from a previous relationship with musician Paul Rossi. The Christmas card that Patricia designed helped to raise funds and awareness for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. This foundation was born of one of the most powerful forces, a mother’s love. Elizabeth contracted AIDS when receiving a blood transfusion during the birth of her daughter. Both her daughter and her son also contracted the virus through her. The foundation has one mission: to bring hope to children with AIDS.

| Hello? Any Arquettes fans out there? |
[May. 30th, 2009|05:07 pm] |
Seriously where is everybody (Medium fans from related communities not withstanding here)? Besides myself, this place has been vacant since May 18th 2008, in terms of other users apart of the community.
[Sigh]
Anyways, this popped up on my Google Alert. Some Forum displaying the almighty powers of touch up effects (most likely using Photoshop Programs). I gotta say that I like the Before much more than the After.

| True Romance [Blu-Ray] (Review) |
[May. 28th, 2009|08:39 pm] |
 | | | | True Romance [Blu-Ray] Directed by Tony Scott By Scott A. Gray
You're so cool, Quentin. And this is where the obsessions of modern cinema's favourite uber-geek first took root. Shot post-Reservoir Dogs, but written prior to, the script of True Romance encapsulates the development of many Tarantino hallmarks. The premise is essentially a modern male fairytale for media-noir nerds. A kung-fu film watching comic store worker falls in love with a beautiful hooker with a heart of gold, goes cowboy on her pimp's ass and raises a ripple effect shit storm trying to sell mafia cocaine to a Hollywood producer.
It would have made a more cold-blooded flick with Tarantino in the director's chair, especially with the original ending intact (which is included, along with commentary from Tarantino and director Tony Scott), but Scott imbues warmth and love into characters that cut beyond Tarantino's irony-laced cautionary tale about taking cinema-bred cool worship too far.
As Tarantino readily admits in his very forthcoming commentary track, which is loaded with tales of the hardships and luck involved in getting his first script sold, Tony was the man for the job. Scott's director's commentary is packed with details, and a third commentary with leads Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette both charms and provides insight into their character motivations, and delivers on-set anecdotes. Taking advantage of possibly the most talent-stacked cast ever to grace a screen, short commentaries with Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Michael Rapaport and Brad Pitt allow the actors to reflect on their key scenes and experiences with the film.
Demonstrating Tony Scott's collaborative spirit, Pitt reveals that making Floyd a sedentary stoner was his explanation for why the character never left the house, and much of identity confused pimp Drexl's extreme look is from the mind of Gary Oldman. Extended scenes with director's commentary, an original low-grade featurette and a superior "Behind the Scenes" look are also included. It looks phenomenal on Blu-Ray, so if you haven't upgraded that old copy of True Romance yet, this is the version to get (Warner) |

27 May, 2009 (16:45) | by Kathleen Murphy | By: Kathleen Murphy
[originally published in Film Comment Vol. 31 No. 4, July/August 1995]
The world is full of women who hunger for movies that unreel not Gawain’s but Guinevere’s gutsy quest to repair her own—and thus others’—broken souls and psyches. The Round Table of peerless travelin’ ladies includes Bringing Up Baby’s Katharine Hepburn, a vessel of dangerous anarchy into which her juiceless lover (Cary Grant) must dive to save them both from deathly extremes. And Jodie Foster’s Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, scenting out the dark, devouring angel who will perversely father her into wholeness. Seat too the sadly underrated
Closet Land’s Madeleine Stowe, who braves a lacerating descent into the “ultimate closet” of her own violated self, another brutal Janus-faced male her guide and confessor. And Sigourney Weaver’s tough mother, crucified for humankind at the end of the Alien trilogy in a fortunate fall into fire.

| Nudity on Screen: Acresses Debate barring their assetts |
[May. 26th, 2009|04:06 am] |
To strip or not to strip — that is the question. In the emancipated Hollywood of 2009, you might think that nudity on screen is less of an issue. And to a degree, that’s probably true with fewer performers admitting to hang-ups about baring all. Yet, it’s still a no-no for many stars, including high-profile names like Julia Roberts, while others wonder why there should be any controversy at all.
Medium star Patricia Arquette long had hang-ups about nudity — to the point that she was so ashamed of her body she wouldn’t take a bath with the lights on. “I had become so uncomfortable with nudity that I was not at a normal place anymore,” she confessed in 1997. That was the year when she admitted going “through the gates of hell” to turn herself around by signing with director David Lynch for the bizarre Lost Highway, a movie that required her to be very much in the altogether. “I’m finally coming into my own sexuality,” she told reporters when the movie was released, and then moments later confessed that she still had inhibitions. “I’m getting a migraine just thinking about this.”
