Gobbles loves those, but he tends to just throw them around the cage. I take them away if he starts getting far enough into them that he could wear one on his head. He's so crazy about them.

Lychee used to just toss them around too but he recently discovered that he can chew through them.

Gobbles chews a specific hole in each one (apparently, it provides a better grip). It might depend on the way the ball is made.....he has two kinds of balls. One he can't seem to break and the other that has a pattern that makes him want to remove a small circle out of the end of every one like them.

Everything seems dangerous anymore. A woman on the lovebird list lost a lovebird who had been ingesting string from its string toys. If I were religious, I would probably just chalk it up to God's will, but I'm a control freak instead :D.

Apparently, it can happen with any fine string toy. The females try to collect the strings and accidentally ingest them.

Yeah, those thin plastic cat wiffle balls are dangerous that way--I've seen birds get feet caugh. My conure loves them, so I got him a toy made out of harder plastic with smaller holes. He isn't able to chew through it.

I notice that he only gets through the cheap PetCo brand ones. He can't chew through the ones I got from the bird store.

The ones designed for cats are usually too heavy duty for smaller birds (though I can't speak for PF lovebirds since Gobbles is smaller). That's what I've taken to buying Gobbles. He gets the bells out of them and puts them in his water :P.

Oh, awesomeness! "Get teh ball!" SQUEEEE! They're very cute. Sunshine likes those balls, too, and she never chews, just tosses or head-butts them. :D

it's my fault! It's what I get for putting Libby's cage right next to my bed. I get pelted with seeds, toys, shredded paper... the list goes on and on...

That's what Gobbles does. He throws them against the side of the cage.

Aww, poor baby!

A long, long time ago, Tweety had one of those in her cage and while I was asleep, she broke it open and got the (metal) bell stuck on her upper mandible.

I know my birds love them, so I only let them play with them directly with me, which is basically a sort of fetch where they make me fetch all the jingle balls they toss on the floor.
