Some of you know that I just lost one of my budgies (Arctic) and that six months ago I lost Paris. Since owning budgies, it's been a pretty steady stream of losses (I currently have seven now). This (along with a friend's similar project) prompted me to create a survey. The purpose of this survey is just to get a very rough idea of how long we really can expect our budgies to live.
I would greatly appreciate it if as many budgie owners (past and present) as possible would participate in this survey. The more information that I can gather the more informative this will be. It only takes a few minutes of your time.
Thanks to anyone who can help me out here. You can access the survey by visiting http://budgietalk.com and clicking the very last link from the menu on the left (Lifespan Project). |

I'm so sorry for your loss.. :(
I added my birds to the project. It's always hard to lose a fluffbutt. I'm hoping my five year old will be one of the ones that lives into his teens, not one of the ones that passes away at seven...
I added my two losses to your project, Casey and Natalie. Natalie was killed by a cat, so I don't know how much she could contribute to the project, but it didn't specify only losses to disease.
A budgie I socialized for my sister also died at a young age, but although I was there at the end, even holding him when he died, I don't have much information on what caused it or led up to it, and a necropsy was never done, so I didn't add him.
I've had three, two of them I don't know because they escaped out the door and we never got them back......
I am so sorry for your loss. :(
The only budgie I've had as an adult was a sweet little yellow one I got from a pet store I was working at as a summer job in college. She didn't last two weeks, and though the pet store offered me a "replacement" I declined. There was no replacing her and I didn't want a bird that I was going to lose so quickly.
I've filled out the survey. I'm so sorry about Arctic :( | |
