?For the sake of your friend's page, i'm not posting the photos unless you email and then i'll send them to you.
Here is the email I have sent out on my address list.
I'm posting my phone # and email here. Please feel free to contact me regarding the following info:

Hi Everyone
I apologize for the mass email.
I have come upon a sad ordeal here in Orange Beach, alabama in which a lady tried to take on being a parrot breeder.
Unfortunately, the care of these little birds is not what it should be. These birds are being kept in an
aluminum shed (the kind you put lawnmowers in) and they are living in 2 x 2 wire cages.

The water bowls were covered in slime and there were several inches of feces and discarded food in the cages.
These poor birds are NEVER handled or allowed out of their cages.

They are bonded pairs (breeders).

There are 2 Yellow fronted amazons $400 for the pair
There are 2 Mexican Redheads $300 for the pair
There are 2 Meyers Parrots.  $150 for the pair - $65 already donated

So far, I have raised $50 towards the adoption of the Meyers Parrots. The asking price for the pair of Meyers is $150. I am personally donating a large cage that I dont use anymore.
I have found them BOTH a home where they can stay together.

The birds' owner is asking $400 for the pair of amazons. Amazons normally sell for MUCH MUCH more.
I do not know the asking price for the pair of mexican redheads, but I'm assuming its probably around $300.
Both the mexicans and the amazons TALK!!!

These birds deserve a chance! Please help if you can!!!!
If you wish to donate to help me rescue these birds, that would be awesome. My first priority is to get the Meyer's parrots out of there (ONLY $100 left to go) and get them to their new adoptive mom and dad.
If you want to foster/adopt any of these birds, PLEASE let me know !! Parrots are the most amazing pets. Wish some patience and love and time and work i'm sure you can help these birds be great pets.
Please keep in mind that these birds are not hand tame at this time and WILL need some time to become tame.

Call me at 601-618-5355 or email back to angeliamarieshirley@gmail.com  (my personal email) if you want to help! Paypal is available for those wishing to donate online or I can accept a donation thru the mail.

CURRENT DONATION AMOUNT: $65 as of 2/27/08 at 6pm central
PAYPAL EMAIL is ANGELIASHIRLEY@YAHOO.COM

Thanks for your consideration - and of course, PROOF OF THE PURCHASE AND ADOPTIONS WILL BE PROVIDED.
***EDIT*** the photos have been posted in a comment from another user. thanks for that ... just scroll down and see them.

Lighting/Books. [Feb. 27th, 2008|04:43 pm]

I do not have supplemental lighting for my birds, but I want to learn more about providing it for them.

I've read that uva and uvb are both important. I've seen this when browsing through the internet: http://www.parrot-and-conure-world.com/full-spectrum-light-for-birds.html

What type of bulbs do you have? And what kind of fixture do you use with them?
If any of you could link me in the right direction, that would be great.

Also, unrelated, but what books do you reccommend for training or just overall parrot care? What are your favorites?

Thanks so much!

Caique on a plane [Feb. 27th, 2008|05:02 pm]

Well, Dixie and I took the flight home from Tennessee to California with few bumps. The securtiy check-point allowed me to stop the foot traffic around so I could remove her from her cage, walk through the check point and scan the cage in the machine. Dixie behaved as a pro, and I placed her back in her carrier with no struggles. I think I had more problems with Dixie flirting with every airline male employee she could find. She was being quite the ham.

The flights themselves, she was very chirpy on the first flight, which was 2 hours long. Nothing sceechy or squaking though, which was nice for the other passengers. She quited down when I gave her some grapes and carrots to munch on. The second flight was during and past sunset, where she did get a bit screechy due to sleepy time.. but once we were in the air and steady, she quieted down and went to sleep, not waking or making a peep until we made our way down. Nobody complained, rather everyone was excited to see a bird come through the airports and on the plane. It was made even more comical that Dixie meows and a lot of people thought I had a cat.

So now she is in quarentine for the next month, where she will have to get used to a new cage, screaming and getting used to not having her real mom again, and settling in. All is well though and all my other birds are doing well, despite my being gone for 2 weeks. A bit messy on the cages, but my bird sitters did fairly well. :)

Might be a stupid question... [Feb. 27th, 2008|10:15 pm]

Hey all! I have a pretty little budgie, but my question is, is hemp safe to place in the bird cage? I feel like it probably is, but I'd rather ask before potentially harming my boy. =) He has a cuttle stone (I'm 99% sure that's the right term) but the metl piece that supposed to hold it to the cage is not very sturdy and it keeps falling down, so i was looking for a better way to attach it to the cage.

Thanks!

eggies [Feb. 27th, 2008|11:08 pm]

[mournfulbliss]
so my keets have been in heat lately, and today i got my first egg. I know that you all will start reprimanding me for wanting my keets to actually have babies, but that aside i have a few questions.

how many will a hen lay in a clutch?
will their parental instincts take over?
how can i tell if its fertile?

please dont leave me comments about egg binding and all of that, a vet appointment will be made tomarrow morning, i also am upping her vitamins and making sure she is in a stress free environment.
