I'm trying to find pictures of parrot-footprints. Like, in the sand or after a bird walks through ketchup? something? whatever? then walks across the countertop. You'd think this would be relatively easy to find, but so far I'm failing miserably.
Anyone have any to share?

| New England Bird Rescues? |
[Jan. 22nd, 2008|05:41 pm] |
My house is really lonely and empty without a bird in it. I am starting to miss the bird-ness more than Gabe specifically. If my willpower were a little weaker, I'd be running out to buy a bird at a pet store, and as is I'm avoiding visiting them to make sure I'm not even exposed to the temptation. Other than college, I haven't lived in a place devoid of a bird since I was six years old, and I'm turning 30 on Saturday. The reason I'm "holding out" against a petshop is I want to do right by my next bird: my first choice is to get a rescue bird (even though my wounded heart is leery of the shorter remaining lifespan of a non-baby bird), and a bird from a breeder is my second choice once I've exhausted rescue options. So I turn to the collective power of the internet, and this community in particular, to help me start my search for a new companion.
( Thoughts on rescues, and questions )
Thanks for any input! I am eager to begin filling the bird-shaped hole in my life. I know that a new bird will never be the same as birds I have had before (Gabe, Peeper, Cheep, Peep), but there will be wonderful new things to learn about him or her. :)
Edit: If it's relevant, I'm currently leaning towards getting a GCC or caique, as I want a bird that is social and playful and not insanely loud. Part of why I prefer a rescue organization is b/c then I'd have time to get to know the bird and bond with him/her before taking him/her home. |

So, out of curiousity, does anyone have a bird that can fly but... just doesn't?
Juniper, my GCC, flies only when she is startled. She is a PetCo bird and her flight feathers were severely clipped when I got her, so I was thinking that may be the reason. Still, she doesn't even attempt to exercise her wings, and only does so when I play exercising games with her, though she's not a fan of those games. Sometimes, when she actually does fly, I think she doesn't even know what happened. Like, "Hey. I was over there and now I am over here. Super."
I just find it sort of odd, though sometimes it is a relief because she is inevitably safer for it. Anyway, just curious to know if anyone experiences the same or if it is an issue I'm not aware of. Or something. Thanks. :D

My work has a sort of ebay function for employees in the organizations, someone put a little green cheek conure up for adoption, with an explanation of "he's great, but I have cats, dogs, horses and two children and he doesn't get enough attention" - started corresponding by email and about oh, two hours ago we met up. Green cheek conure has arrived. ( birdy pictures and more story ) |
