Target carseat drama
I'm sorry if this has been talked to death already, but someone just emailed me a news story about the Target/Britax for $42 thing - and honestly, I have to ask this. Where is the common sense here?

Someone made a freaking typo. It happens. If it had happened in the store, yes, that price would most likely have been honored. But the major difference is that while THAT PARTICULAR Target would have taken a bath on those seats, only THAT PARTICULAR TARGET'S inventory would have been at risk. Do these people who are OMFG SO UPSET not realize that Target is talking about thousands of carseats in the warehouse inventory, not to mention most likely having to honor those sales for which there were no seats available at the time?

*granted, were I in Target's shoes, I might offer people a little gift card just for the sake of PR, but that's neither here nor there. People seem to honestly believe that Target should honor a price given IN ERROR to potentially millions of people.*

Seriously. Am I just offbase here?

I think a lot of people are mad because it wasn't just a few minutes that the error was up, it was hours and hours. That would spike huge traffic on the site and alter someone. They didn't fix it until the next day. I wasn't one who bought the seat. I didn't see the link until the next day and it was still working but out of stock.

IT was a Sunday though. How many big corporations have people in corporate offices on the weekend? They outsource customer service from what I hear. I am sure the people in the foreign country who handle customer service have no idea.

I think some of the problem is that people see these huge corporations making tons of cash and think the corporations can handle a little welfare. Is target next on the list for a bailout?

Half these people bitching were going to sell their 25-30 carseats on eBay to make a profit anyway. OH NOES, now you can't get rich. Cry me an f-ing river. If you're gonna be greedy, you get what you get.

And I agree totally with you. I think some of these people have been out of the real world too long. That's not the way you run a good business. It just isn't.

Yeah, you agree with the 485947350324 people that have said this before. Have a cookie. Read the comments in [info]ladysmith's post. Read the [info]parent_drama post. Even the majority of the people who bought the seats (myself included) agreed that it was an error and no big deal. So, no, you are not off base, but yes, this topic has been done to death.

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell is so special about that particular carseat that it costs almost $300 to begin with. Maybe I'm a little cheap, but my $50 carseat, 4 years ago, worked just fine for us. Maybe I just didn't love my babies enough. *shrugs*

This whole carseat thing reminds me of the $100 cloth diapers people were buying when my babies were tiny. Do people still do that to be the bestest LJ mom EVAR?

$100 for something to catch you baby's poop? Jesus. I'm such a cheapskate, I complained about $25 for a pack of 12 cloth nappies.

Man, and here I was thinking I was the only one who could see this logic. Glad to see I'm not alone! I so completely agree with you on this! The people that make me the most nuts (because I can see being bummed about not getting the deal) are the ones who are ZOMFG!!! going to boycott and go shop @ Walmart instead.

Cuz a price misquote is a much bigger deal than infringing upon worker's rights (among all the other garbage Walmart is known for).

Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but I find it equally annoying that people keep insisting on posting comment after comment, post after post to essentially say "You're stupid for getting upset about this and I'm better/more enlightened/whatever than you because *I*, in my infinite wisdom, see how stupid YOU are". What you said has been said a million times, not to mention it's pretty damn insulting to the half of the women who do happen to give a crap about this.

Yeah, we get it. Some people are unreasonable upset about this and have unreasonable expectations. Yes. And the other half seem to be unreasonably judgey and bitchy about it. Maybe EVERYONE should just simmah down already. Maybe people could try, oh I dunno, seeing things from the point of view of the other side and stop being such bitches about it. Oh wait, it wouldn't be El Jay if we didn't manage to turn every argument into a mom-pissing contest.

Thank Target for allowing you guys to have dramaz for three days now, at least.

Couldn't your comment be taken as YOU being better/more enlightened/whatever than everyone else? You're basically just saying that YOU are right because you aren't pissed about the car seat thing and also aren't being unreasonably judgey and bitchy about it.

I just don't see how your opinion on this is any better than anyone elses.

I think your comment is insulting to 100% of the women involved in this. The pissed ones and the ones that are like OMG GET OVER IT PEOPLE!

I'm not being completely serious here, but I still stand by my point.

I was in Target yesterday and said to the worker in the baby department I was there to pick up my $42.00 carseat and I want it NOW. The look on her face registered pure terror until I said "Gotcha!" and smiled. Then she cracked up and told me that people have gone NUTS over this thing!

People have to realize that especially in an economic environment like we have now that a lot of companies and really tightening up their purse strings. And for very good reason. When times are good companies have the room to be generous but when times are tough, not so much. I have been dealing with this on a daily basis. I work in the finance industry, not in the US though, thank god.
