Notes: A majority of the dialogue is taken straight from the game so don't like... say anything about that. I just developed like inner thoughts of Kairi and before this scene happened in the game.
Kairi tapped her pencil rhythmically on her desk as she listened to the teacher drone on and on about whatever. She glanced back at the two empty seats next to her. Riku and the other boy? What was his name again…? She sighed. It has been a year since “the other boy” and Riku left her. They were out saving the world, while she was sitting in school learning about the world.
"Kairi? Are you okay?" a voice on the other side of her said. Hearing her name, Kairi was brought back to reality.
"Huh? Oh, right. I'm fine Selphie,” she replied.
“Are you sure? You look a little sick. Maybe you should go see the nurse.”
Kairi shook her head. “No, it’s okay. There’s only 5 minutes of school left, I can make it through the day.”
“Oh, alright…”
Kairi returned back to staring at the clock. She wasn’t really looking at the time, but the clock was behind the teacher, so it was convenient that way. Why can’t I remember him? His voice… it’s gone too. It used to always be th- RING RING RING. Well, school’s over. She grabbed the books on her desk and put them all inside her bag.
Exiting the school building, she started walking toward the beach thinking that she might remember the boy’s name that way. Kairi clutched the handbag by her side. He's really important to me, how could I just forget him like tha-
"Kairi! Wait up!" Selphie exclaimed running up to her. Kairi stopped and turned around to face the girl. "Hey, do you feel like going out to the island? Tidus and Wakka are all wrapped up in their ballgame and they won't go with me."
"Not today, sorry," she replied sincerely. Normally, Selphie would be hanging out with Tidus and Wakka, but ever since the two of them got famous from their Blitzball game, they have been really busy.
"Aww, why not?"
Kairi shrugged. "Do you remember those boys who use to hang out with us?"
"Riku?"
"Yeah."
"Hm, I wonder whatever happened to him. I sure miss him," Selphie said.
"He's far away. But I know we'll see him again."
Selphie perked up. "Sure! Of course we will."
"And the other boy?"
Selphie made a face before answering. "What other boy?"
Kairi sighed a little. "The one who was with Riku and me all the time -- we played together on that island. His voice always used to be there... but now it's gone. I can't think of his face, or his name. I feel awful about it. So I told myself -- I'm not going to the island until I remember everything about him."
"Hm... are you sure you didn't make him up?" Selphie asked.
Kairi shrugged her head.
"Naminé?" She heard a voice inside calling to "her". It felt familiar, but she knew it wasn't the voice of the boy she forgot.
"Naminé...? What's happening to me?" the voice called out again.
"Who are you? And that's not my name. I'm Kairi."
"Kairi... I know you. You're that girl he likes."
"Who? Please, a name!"
"I'm Roxas," said the mysterious voice.
"Okay, Roxas, but can you tell me HIS name?"
"You don't remember my name? Thanks a lot, Kairi!" This time, she could hear another voice inside of her, and this time, it was the voice that she forgot. "Okay, I guess I can give you a hint. Starts with an 'S'."
