christopher judge gets an education at Dragon*Con
So I woke up this morning to go to the bathroom, and as I'm stumbling back to bed, [info]smoagendash comes up outside my door. "Stephanie? Thanks so much for posting that video to your journal. It was hysterical. You HAVE to post it to the pandemonium_bks community. People have got to see this. But get some more sleep first." So I got some more sleep, and here is the posting.

Quick summary for you; Christopher Judge of SG-1 at Dragon*Con having to be told what a Furry is.

It is completely work safe (unless, as a friend of mine said, your work has a thing against people laughing uncontrollably in the middle of the day), but do not be drinking anything. Should you have issues with the laughter, I found (since I watched it at 1am, and didn't want to wake up Tyler), shoving your fist in your mouth helps.

(btw, should you be worried, at least two friends of mine who are furries have seen this on my page and thought it was hysterical.)

Very funny. I guess the man has lived a pretty sheltered life. ;)

actually, judging from his comment (with 32 seconds left in the clip), being sheltered isn't the problem ;-)

I really loved his co-panelists reactions, which seemed to range from "I'm not sure what's going on" to "OMG, train wreck, get the popcorn..."

At least one of them appears to be Jason Momoa from SGA.

It's not the exact panel I went to (which also had Corin Nemec and Claudia Black and the Scottish guy), but based on that, it's moderator, [Someone I don't know], Alexis Cruz, Alexa Doig, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge, and Vanessa Angel.

And in a beautiful example of synchronicity, on Spike TV tonight they reran the "Fur & Loathing" episode of CSI Las Vegas that featured Furries.

I wasn't sure at first until the part where he asked why kids couldn't hear about people in animal suits. Then I started to get it. But my only exposure to Furries is that episode of CSI.

There are furries as extras in that.

The response I recall at the time was quite mixed, but there's a general rule for such things. A murder-mystery TV show using a particular sub-culture as a setting will discover a motive for murder within the sub-culture.

Fortunately, the obvious motive can still be a red herring, and the detective can still pin the blame on the mysterious furry who fled the train while it was trapped by a snowstorm.
