| About: |  Welcome to ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif){kind=small} palmbook_recs, a community for sharing and recommendng palmbooks of fanfiction.Rules: - Each post must contain a link to a palm book. - As well as the link to the palm book there must be a link to the original story on-line, so that community members can send feedback to the original author. - The story should be palm-booked as it is, including all original headings, notes etc. - While it is not a rule to contact the author before distributing a palmbook of their work in this community, if the author contacts you and asks you to take down your post you must do so as soon as possible, and email me at oscarcat (at) gmail (dot) com. The authors name will then be added to a list of writers who would prefer us not to palm book and rec their work. - Please treat the authors, and other community member nicely - no flames, or namecalling. Any problems, questions or comments, please contact me at oscarcat (at) gmail (dot) com. How to make a Palmbook: - Download Dropbook - Make a text file of the story (including all the authors headers, notes etc), and save it as the author-title. - Drag and drop the text file onto the Dropbook icon, and when the prompt box appears fill in the author and title details. - The .pdb file (the palmbook) should appear in the same folder as the original textfile, and share the same name. Note: There is a simple palmbook mark up language that can add useful info to your palm books. If you only learn one bit, learn \x. which is used to show a new chapter. Enclose each chapter title with \x and \x. This creates a list of chapters within the file, that the reader can look through, which is very useful and user friendly. How to read a Palmbook: - buy a palm or other palm OS using PDA. Ebay is a good, cheap source, but also check out ads in local papers, or second-hand technology shops. Palm has been around for a few years now, and old palms are pretty cheap. (Any palm will do - my first one was an m100, which has next to no memory and ran off 2xAAA batteries. But it could handle novel length fics, and a load of shorter, stand alone fics fine.) - Download eReader (free) - Start uploading .pdb (palmbook) files to your palm. Notes for Authors: - This community has been set up so that palm users can share fanfiction palm books that they have enjoyed. - It is hoped that sharing palmbooks will bring your stories to a whole new audience, without additional effort on your part. - Community members are encouraged to leave feedback for the authors. - Please note, you should expect to be treated politely by the members of the community. - No money is being made from this venture. - The decision has been made that community members do not *have* to contact the relevent author before posting their palmbook. This is because it was felt that this would take too long and discourage members from regularly posting. However if you have a strong opinion on this I would be interested to read your comments, and they will be taken into consideration. - If, for any reason, you are not happy about your stories being shared in this way, then please email me at oscarcat (at) gmail (dot) com and I will remove the relevent post, and add you to a list of authors who do not wish us to palm book their work. --- Thank you for joining in.
