It is also a challenge between two friends (the writers) that grew into a sprawling tale about two friends who wanted something more, but didn't think it was available to them. It's about longing - but longing when you're male and in your mid-twenties.

It's funny and touching, and silly and smart and I have adored finding the two little fic gems in my flist for the last couple of months.

Now it's done, and i've played with the layout a bit, so that you can read each boys take on each of the 50 challenges that Crimsonclad and Helpwess set up straight after the other.

Extract: This entire day has been a day of suck, but really, there's no call to end it with a shoot in a freaking meat locker. That's just cruel. But for some stupid reason Jensen doesn't even care about, Sam and Dean are lurking around a meat locker, which, remember your meat locker history lessons from school, is like 40 degrees, and ending a day that's already been 14 hours long with a good 4 hours in a dinky little room barely above freezing--well. It's enough to break a man, is what it is, and when they're finally done Jensen thinks he might collapse in relief, but the pull of a hot shower and bed is strong enough to prevent it.
They're struggling into their jackets to go home and Jared's zipper is caught on something, some loose threads or something, and Jensen recognizes in his face the way he's been feeling--about 12 seconds from losing it--Jared's face is crumpling into itself as he tries to free the zipper pull. Jensen says, "Jared," and stills Jared's hands with one hand, as he reaches into his pocket with the other and fishes out his pocketknife. He cuts the offending threads and zips up Jared's jacket for him, all the way to his neck.
He's putting his knife back when Jared sort of collapses into his neck and mumbles, "I love you, Jen."
Here is where Jensen should pop right back with, "Yeah you do," or, "I know it," but he's already waited too long, so he just puts an arm around Jared's shoulders.
"Let's get you home," he says.

Download this palmbook here.

Remember - if you liked this book, let the author know!

Please help me of the audience this book receives (coz i'm nosy and stuff):

View Poll: Palmbook: 25 Days

Hi all!

My posting here as been a little random recently. I'm planning to change that by fixing a day of the week to post. This will actually probably be on tuesdays, but I've posted today instead.

Anyone who is a member if this community can post btw. :)

It would help if you kept your posts roughly like mine, so that all the correct info is there and if the posts were tagged by fandom. I don't read every fandom so more posters would mean a better range of palmbooks for all.

Also if there is anything you would like to see, or not see, or if you have any comments, criticisms etc, please comments and i'll try and sort something out.

thanks for reading folks,
the_cat

ps. I have started to host the palmbook I post on my webspace. I will slowly start editing the previous posts so that the books doesn't expire like they do on ysi or savefile.com

(Sam. Dean)
Length: 11 chapters.
Rating: PG for language.
Authors Summary: I have been distracting myself, amusing myself, with more crack-fic. All I can say is, I haven't seen this particular twist in SPN before. That does not mean it hasn't been done; only that I haven't seen it done. And it kinda struck me that it had a weird sort of promise to it. In a cracked sorta way.

Lucy, stop looking at me like that. Something about SPN just brings all the crack!fic to the yard.

Anyway. I only offer it for amusement.

This poster's summary: Under the Haystack is Dean turned seven, and Sam's role in life turned on it's head. It's clever and very well written and sad, and i stayed up far too late last night reading it, and then carried on reading as soon as i woke up. i had to gobble it up. If you've watched a couple of episodes of Supernatural and know who Sam and Dean are, then that's probably all you need to enjoy this fic. (It probably helps if you've seen the episode 'Home' so you know who Missouri is, but it's not essential-essential and anyways you could watch it here assuming you have broadband and fifty minutes to spare.)

Extract: He smiles, but Dean doesn’t smile back. He looks little, and scared, and Sam thinks, God damn it, because this regressed little-kid Dean really IS just a kid. A child, who woke up in a strange room with a strange man and is scared out of his mind. Probably dealing a hell of a lot better with all the strangeness than most kids do, sure, but when you get right down to it, seven years old is seven years old, and Dean had seen enough shit by this age to know that sometimes the Bogeyman was real, sometimes there really WERE things in closets and under beds, and sometimes they fucking ATE YOU.

“It’s okay,” Sam whispers. “I promise.”

Dean shivers in his gigantic grown-up tee shirt, and doesn’t say anything at all.

Download this palmbook here.

Remember - if you liked this book, let the author know!

(Note: janissa11 - if you aren't happy about this post please let me know and i'll remove it.)

Draco Malfoy has taken over the family escort business, and must contend with a missing relative, an attractive accountant, ignoring how much he fancies Blaise, and soaring levels of stress, while looking fabulous at all times, as befits a Malfoy.

This is an absorbing, well written fic that I read way into the night. I love how it tackles the concept of where you end, and your family begins. Hackthis writes plots stuffed with amusing and interesting details, and I just love this story. *shrugs*

ETA: Also I recommend going to the original posts, since there are various casting image posts, a soundtrack and other goodies that would not translate into a palmbook, but which are worth a look.

Download this palmbook here.
(Note for future reference: If the file is no-longer available to download and you would still like a copy, please comment this post and I will re-post the file.)

Remember - if you liked this book, let the author know!

(Note: Hackthis - if you aren't happy about this post please let me know and i'll remove it.)

--

Title: Twentysomething
Author: hackthis (original posts here)
Fandom: HP
Pairing: Blaise/Harry
Length: 5 chapters.
Rating: Chapters range from G to NC-17
Authors Summary: A Harry Potter story in five parts about getting older, getting over it, getting over yourself, and moving the fuck on.
This poster's summary: Another great story that comes out choc-full of details and fully formed. I'm still pretty incoherent about it to be honest, and probably will be until I re-read it.

ETA: Again, I recommend going to the original posts, since they are stuffed full of extra goodies that wouldn't show up in a palmbook (even if i wanted them to.)

Download this palmbook here.
(Note for future reference: If the file is no-longer available to download and you would still like a copy, please comment this post and I will re-post the file.)

Remember - if you liked this book, let the author know!

(Note: Hackthis- If you aren't happy about this post please let me know and i'll remove it.)

Buffy and pals have spent a while travelling the world, collecting slayers. At the start of our season, they're regrouping in Cleveland, on the Hellmouth....
This poster's summary: Here are the last of the episodes so far. If you enjoy the series, please leave feedback for the authors. It seems that work stress has forced them to slow down, and they could probably do with some support and encouragement. :)

I'll post the last 5 episodes so far in the next few days.

Download episode 9 (Soulman) here.
Download episode 10 (The Wasteland) here.
Download episode 11 (Ready Unsteady) here.
Download episode 12 (Fairytale of New York) here.
Download episode 13 (Mirror Mirror) here.

Remember - if you liked these books, let the authors know!

(Note: Whitenight, WolframandHart, Taffy13, JL and Joe, Ravyn & Djungelurban - if you aren't happy about this post please let me know and i'll remove it.)

At the start of our season, they're regrouping in Cleveland, on the Hellmouth....
This poster's summary: Having not read buffy fic for a few years now, I stumbled across Buffyworld.com looking for a chapter summary, and found a whole 'nother season that this group of writers had written. And I love it! The characterisations are great, and plotting is both clever, and very in keeping with the normal eb and flow of a buffy season. It's loyal to the original show so there is no slash, or ficcy shipping, and there are original characters thrown in, but it all works - which is very very impressive. As someone who used to gobble up the buffy shooting scripts (before the cease and desist letter caused the site to close), the tv script style reads very naturally, and works very well. It's definately worth your time, imho.
Notes: I'm going to post the first 4 episodes today, and then post the rest in batches of four over the next few days or so - want to read each episode before I post it.

Download episode 1 (New York, New York) here.
Download episode 2 (Waking the Dead) here.
Download episode 3 (Lady Sings the Blues) here.
Download episode 4 (Metamorphose) here.

Remember - if you liked these books, let the authors know!

(Note: Whitenight, WolframandHart, Taffy13, JL and Joe, Ravyn & Djungelurban - if you aren't happy about this post please let me know and i'll remove it.)

Post-HBP, contains extensive spoilers.
This poster's summary: I think this is probably the best novel length fic I read last year. It's clever, it makes sense, and you care about the characters.
Well, palmbook-recs is now open. I'm a bit nervous about it, but let's give it a go and see how we get on.

Here is all the basic info you probably need/want to know. A copy of it can be found in the community profile.

If there is anything you think should be added (or changed) to the rules then please let me know.

Rules:

- Each post must contain a link to a palm book.
- As well as the link to the palm book there must be a link to the original story on-line, so that community members can send feedback to the original author.
- The story should be palm-booked as it is, including all original headings, notes etc.
- While it is not a rule to contact the author before distributing a palmbook of their work in this community, if the author contacts you and asks you to take down your post you must do so as soon as possible, and email me at oscarcat (at) gmail (dot) com. The authors name will then be added to a list of writers who would prefer us not to palm book and rec their work.
- Please treat the authors, and other community member nicely - no flames, or namecalling.

Any problems, questions or comments, please contact me at oscarcat (at) gmail (dot) com.

How to make a Palmbook:

- Download Dropbook
- Make a text file of the story (including all the authors headers, notes etc), and save it as the author-title.
- Drag and drop the text file onto the Dropbook icon, and when the prompt box appears fill in the author and title details.
- The .pdb file (the palmbook) should appear in the same folder as the original textfile, and share the same name.

Note: There is a simple palmbook mark up language that can add useful info to your palm books. If you only learn one bit, learn \x. which is used to show a new chapter. Enclose each chapter title with \x and \x. This creates a list of chapters within the file, that the reader can look through, which is very useful and user friendly.

How to read a Palmbook:

- Download eReader (free)
- Start uploading .pdb (palmbook) files to your palm.

Notes for Authors:

- This community has been set up so that palm users can share fanfiction palm books that they have enjoyed.
- It is hoped that sharing palmbooks will bring your stories to a whole new audience, without additional effort on your part.
- Community members are encouraged to leave feedback for the authors.
- Please note, you should expect to be treated politely by the members of the community.
- No money is being made from this venture.
- If, for any reason, you are not happy about your stories being shared in this way, then please email me at oscarcat (at) gmail (dot) com and I will remove the relevent post, and add you to a list of authors who do not wish us to palm book their work.

Happy reading!
