Hello and welcome to Paleo Exchange!
This is similar to other art exchange communities, but for creatures of ancient times. This includes (but is not limited to) dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and other ancient reptiles, and mammals. Hybrid characters (such as pterosaur/sabertooth cat griffins, or dinosaur/dragon hybrids) are also welcome, but they must be at least half 'paleo', or show more characteristics of an ancient creature than anything else. So, for example, anthro dinosaurs are allowed, so long as the have the dinosaurian facial features, hand/feet, tail, and other details. A humanoid with simply a tail and clawed fingers will not be allowed. If you have any questions on what's acceptable, don't hesitate to ask!
*If you truly dislike drawing anthro characters, or if you would rather only do anthros, please state this in the roll call. I will keep your request in mind, but I cannot guarantee I'll be able to comply.*
Here are the rules. They're pretty much just common sense things, but people seem to like to have them written out:
--Read the community info page (you're here). Please do not make posts in the community asking how to sign up or when sign-ups are or if your character is okay. These questions are answered on the info page. If you still have questions, you may contact
dinogrrl.
--Don't make posts that don't relate to this community, without the permission of
dinogrrl. For most people, this means you shouldn't be making posts that don't contain exchange art or an explanation for lateness with art. Questions about dinosaurs, other prehistoric creatures, paleoart, or whatever should go in more appropriate communities. Use LJ's search box to find them.
--Flaming is stupid. Don't do it. Keep your drama out of this journal, or
dinogrrl will whup you with the bannin' stick.
--If critique is not asked for, don't give it. If it is, don't take it as an invitation to flame someone, and if you ask for a critique, don't flip out like a ninja when you actually get one.
--You are expected to do art that is up to your standard quality. You will NOT submit incomplete sketches, drawings done on lined paper, or drawings with no thought given to proper anatomy and/or the character's description. Finished drawings that are done in pencil are of course welcome. Try to keep your scans clean; if your scanner/camera/whatever sucks, try to fix the picture in an image editing program before posting.
--Have a personal issue with the Chosen you've been assigned? Too bad. Act like a professional and do the picture anyway, and don't do a slack job on it just because. As stated above, keep your drama out of this community.
--This should go without saying, but when art of your character is posted, comment on it! Even if just to say "Hey, thanks!" Not doing this look a bit rude, and it can be very frustrating to an artist to not know if all that time and effort spent on the piece is even noticed.
--This is not an adult art community. While tasteful nudes, naked non-anthro characters, and some blood/violence is acceptable, this community is not to be used to draw pr0n, fetishes, extreme and pointless violence/gore, or pictures that are purposely offensive to an individual, race, religion, sexuality, or whatever. There are other places you can go to do this.
--If you are Blacklisted, don't come in with another username to get around it (same goes for if you've been banninated). That's just pathetic, and you WILL get whupped by the bannin' stick. To get off the blacklist, you can either finish the piece you were assigned or do two 'adoptables', which are made available at the end of each round. If you've completed either of these, please let me know so
dinogrrl can remove you from the Blacklist.
So, what do you do to get in on the action?
1. Once a month, usually some time during the last week of the month, a 'Roll Call' post will be put up.
2. There's no need to post an introduction post (and in fact, we would prefer you not, as it clutters the community)! Just fill out the Roll Call form that's provided and post it in a comment.
dinogrrl will give the form a quick look-over to make sure your character fits in the community's theme, and that enough description is provided for the artist who gets you. If you are asked to correct something, please do so, or you may be excluded from the round. If this happens, just make sure to correct your filled-out form next time!
3. Make sure you post the correct email address! This address is the one that your Chosen One's info will be sent to. If you don't receive your info, please comment saying so in the 'Emails Sent Out' post that is put up, well, after the emails are sent out. It is important that you do this as soon as possible. Don't wait until the last week of the round to come crying that you didn't get your email!
4. You have until the end of the month to do your art. When you get it done, post it to this community. You can either put a link to the art, or the art itself--don't post links to members-only galleries. If you're posting the picture itself, please put it behind an LJ-cut. If your picture contains nudes or blood/violence, please say so. Not all of us get online just at home.
5. Each round ends at approximately midnight of the last day of the month (12:00 AM of the first day of the next month), at which time the emails for the next round will be sent out.
6. If you do not get your art in on time, you will be Blacklisted. To avoid this, simply post your art in time.
'Adoptables'--those who did not receive art--will have their descriptions posted at the end of each month. If you're feeling kind, go ahead and do some extra art for someone!
