NY Screening Did anyone attend the special screening in NY with me this week?
Thoughts? | 9:49 am [dirty__glamour]

Am I the only one not excited to see Choke? I'm a firm believer that Chuck has down the art of internalized monologue down to perfection & that just isn't something that translates well into film. | | Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 | 8:06 pm [mineowyn]

Anyone else noticed the fact that Choke isn't playing anywhere near them unless it's an advanced screening?? Was everyone aware of this and I'm just out of the loop or what? | | Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | 8:39 am [africanviolin]

Palahniuk Hey I have a quick question for all ya readers,
How do you pronounce his last name? PUH-la-nik or pull-ON-ick? Or neither.
I knew someone who claimed to be related to him (a cousin of sorts) and he said his last name was Puh-la-nik but I've heard people say the other way. Anyway, just curious.
Also, has anyone ever written to Chuck? | | Sunday, September 7th, 2008 | 10:13 pm [mineowyn]

You Think She'll Take You Back? - Choke Movie Excerpt x-posted from my journal. A whole new set of Choke clips HERE. This clip annoyed me quite a bit. ... When did young!Victor ever care about his father??? He was a bit thick, juvenile and lacking in maturity of thought as a young boy. And OMG when was it ever revealed in the book that his father was from Oslow? (or did she say Austria, didn't really catch that bit) In fact, when did Victor EVER have a known father??? I thought his father is supposed to Jesus Christ? (Well actually it didn't really pan out that way for those who've read the book. But the premise was that Ida got pregnant with the foreskin of Christ and had Victor..) But then again, Clark Gregg has the creative license to do whatever he likes, as long as it doesn't deviate too much from the spirit of the book. Still, I'd admit the clips are funny, and maybe the humour would make up for the un-canony bits of the film. Sorry if this sounds like a bitch-fest, but the "You Think She'll Take You Back?" clip really got me quite annoyed. :S >. | | Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 | 10:02 am [sininlinens]

new member, and some icons! Hello! I'm a new member here, but have been a Chuck fan for a LONG time. :) I just recently had some free time on my hands in-between my Senior Project for my BFA show and finding a job to make some icons. Here are my favorite quotes from some of Chuck's books... You don't need to tell me what you take, but commenting is appreciated! Credit is mandatory, though. There's one sample from each section, in the same order I have the cuts below. SAMPLES!( diary )( choke )( fight club )( invisible monsters )( lullaby )( rant )( survivor ) | | Saturday, July 12th, 2008 | 4:23 pm [thevo1d]

We Can Hope! "Let me re-iterate our news headline here: Fan concept art. Albeit, a very talented graphic designer of a fan named Xander Davis. But nonetheless, this is unofficial concept art. Still, it gets the juices flowing, eh? With 'Choke' finished and hitting theaters on September 26th, the rumor mill is sure to start spinning again. This could mean a jumpstart to some stalled Palahniuk projects, such as Invisible Monsters. So let us imagine for a second, what a teaser poster for this insane story Chuck created, would look like. And yes, that's Jessica Biel on that poster." i want this one to happen more than any other of Chuck's books to be adapted to a film. | | Saturday, July 5th, 2008 | 4:03 pm [korczyk]

CHOKE Trailer(qt)Big ups to asw909It looks fucking brilliant. I hope Chuck is over the moon (he probably is). Kelly Macdonald is my favourite actress. Seriously. I defy anyone to point out a bad performance from her. You can't. Because she hasn't given any. She made Gosford Park what it is, IMO (it's a big favourite). I thought she was robbed of a BAFTA (for No Country For Old Men). | | Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 | 6:34 pm [fitzwilliamlogo]

Continuous theme... subtle spoilers? Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but has anyone noticed how almost every one of Chuck's books has a strong tie to parents? It seems like a general subject to link every book to until you think about it...
Fight Club- The obvious by-product of a dysfuntional childhood and lack of a parental influence. "Our fathers were our models for God. If our fathers bailed..." Lullaby- Oyster literally calling them 'Mom and Dad' and the narrator liking the idea of it. Diary- The in-law angle. That ever so stereotypical yet painful interaction between her and the mother-in-law magnified by the guilt of her husband being in the coma leaving her to deal with Grace, alone. Choke- Largely revolving around him visiting and taking care of his mother. And the convoluted storyline of his conception relating to Jesus. Survivor- The cult. Like Fight Club, shows the complete lack of parental influence. Although throwing in the ongoing involvement of the brother makes the appearance of a 'family situation' plausible. Invisible Monsters- The parents are tied in here and there and, as with Survivor, it ties in the family feel with the constant involvement of a sibling. Rant- Won't say much about this. But if you've read it: you already know. Haunted- Not a strong pull in the parental direction but very much of a lineage. I felt Mr. Whittier was the grandfather figure to everyone and the group, as time went on, formed somewhat of an extended family. Snuff- Well, you know. And if you don't, go read it.
It's been a while since I've read some of these so forgive me if some of the details are skewed or missing but it's as I remember it. Input? | | Friday, May 23rd, 2008 | 10:04 am [____fromfaraway]

what! [x-posted] Snuff has been out for 3 days now, and no one here has said a word about it?! Did anyone else get (or pre-order it like this nerd did) ??????
I am not even halfway thru it yet, because between work, school, the gym, and stuff like eating and toileting myself I have a schedule more packed than a soccer mom's... but I am trying.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller??
PS Choke's movie release date = 9/26/08. | | Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 | 1:10 pm [pitbrown]

Choke Most amazing story of Chuck Palahniuk, I guess. I've never been on Panahniuk show, but I think one time I'll do it) | | Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 | 9:02 pm [balancetheory]

Has anyone read Vonneguts new book Armegeddon In Retrospect yet? Today I read the short story "Unknown Soilder" and was creeped out at how Palahniuk-esque it was. Seriously, you should buy the book. But if not, and you see it laying around somewhere, read the story, it's only like 3-4 pages long and worth it. | | Friday, March 21st, 2008 | 5:52 pm [anti_tim]

Author Report Help So for my English class we have to do and Author/Novel report and I chose Chuck and "Rant". We are supposed to provide excerpts from this and other works. What I would like is if you would tell me some of your favorite qoutes and/or sections from any of his books (or essays or interviews, etc) that you think best summarize his style of writing, themes, outlook on life, influences, etc. Or things that people reacted to very strongly. I need ones that are mostly from Rant or Fight Club, but other books are ok too. If you want to type out the whole thing, feel free, but page numbers are nice and preferred. Thank you for the help! | | Thursday, January 31st, 2008 | 8:38 pm [something_pure]

noodling I'm taking a course on folklore and folklife this semester, and we just read a story about noodling. The more you read about the not-so-common things that people do, the more you see where Chuck gets his inspiration. Basically, these people fish for catfish by shoving their arms into holes and hoping that a catfish will bite them. "Lee would reach into likely nooks and crevices, wiggling his fingers and waiting for a nip. When it came, he would hook his thumbs into the attacker's mouth or thrust his hand down its throat, then wait for the thrashing to stop. If he was lucky, the thing on the end of his arm was a fish." Picturing people up to their elbows or shoulders in dangerous holes for fun reminded me of Rant. | | Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 | 9:58 pm [blueblindbee]
