Went to Hastings to meet cousins from Chicago and visit Auntie and Uncle. More on that tomorrow though, I need to get to sleep because they are leaving early tomorrow.
Talked to beta about fic; JD gave me requests for three more fics. XD Yes, *three* more! So, we shall see what happens with those ideas. I've already made a few preliminary notes, just to be safe. ;)

| Yesterday... and Today |

Yesterday I went to Hastings for a haircut and errands. The haircut was easy -- I have it pretty short already and it just started bulking out in the last week or so. So, get rid of the bulk, trim and I should be good until the fall. I got a few things at Menards, Radio Shack and the Evil Empire -- just "stuff", all of the little oods and ends that are always needed. I didn't get groceries though -- too much road work going on right in front of my usual store and in any case, I didn't really need anything special. So I got home, unloaded and wired a couple of bungee cords so the top freezer door doesn't keep popping open. It always seems to do it for some reason, and I can't justify an entirely new fridge just for that.
Then My Cousin Donna(tm) called last night and she yakked for way too long. She was doing ok though, and I was rather enjoying talking to her -- right up until she started saying how she was thinking of joining Scientology because "people like John Travolta and Tom Cruise are Scientologists, so it must be cool." >>.<< No, just... no. But that is a rant for another day.
Today it was nice and cool because the humidity wasn't quite so bad, so I did laundry and picked up a little bit. I need to get someone else to do some more mowing etc. so that I can get rid of these big freakin' weeds that have sprung up all over the yard. Yuck. Plus I picked two ticks off of my arms already and now I think I feel more of them crawling all over my skin. Ewwww, just Ewwwww! I hate ticks w/a passion!!
Back later on.

| Meme Time |
[14 Jul 2009|08:14pm] |
This is on *many* of my sibs lists, so I'll do it too.
• Post ten of any pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive. • NO CAPTIONS!!! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words. • They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason. • You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.

| French Toast (Vegan) Recipe |
[14 Jul 2009|05:51pm] |
Skinny (Vegan) French Toast w/Pecans Nutritional Info
* Fat: 20.8g * Carbohydrates: 32.3g * Calories: 340.0 * Protein: 9.3g
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups soy or rice milk 3 tablespoons cornstarch 1 teaspoon cinnamon 6 tablespoons chickpea flour or brown rice flour 1 cup finely chopped pecans 2 tablespoons refined coconut oil, or more as needed for cooking 6 to 8 slices vegan whole-wheat or whole-wheat raisin bread Maple syrup, for serving Directions In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy or rice milk, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Whisk in the chickpea or brown rice flour. Transfer the mixture to a shallow bowl. Place the pecans in another shallow bowl. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the coconut oil. One slice at a time, dip the bread in the milk mixture, turning to soak both sides. Dip one side in the pecans, pressing to coat. (Yeah, it's a little challenging to make 'em stick in there. Quit whining. You're about to have French toast!) Arrange the bread in the skillet (you might have to do more than one batch), pecan side down. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, until the pecans are well browned. Carefully turn the bread and continue cooking until the second side is browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Serve immediately with maple syrup.
Number of Servings: 6
Note: I'm pretty sure this is vegan anyway. I only have one question: what can you substitute for the whole-wheat bread for people who can't have wheat gluten?

| New Study |
[14 Jul 2009|12:20pm] |
WOMEN'S ASS SIZE STUDY There is a new study about women and how they feel about their asses. The results were pretty interesting:
30% of women think their ass is too fat...
10% of women think their ass is too skinny....
The remaining 60% say they don't care, they love him, he's a good man, and they wouldn't trade him for the world.

Cats 'exploit' humans by purring By Victoria Gill Science reporter, BBC News
Cat owners may have suspected as much, but it seems our feline friends have found a way to manipulate us humans.
Researchers at the University of Sussex have discovered that cats use a "soliciting purr" to overpower their owners and garner attention and food. ( Read more... )

| HPL Book Sale |
[11 Jul 2009|09:06pm] |
I went to the book sale in Hastings today, though I got an incredibly late start and so I did not find much; it was pretty well picked over by then. Not much of anything that I will read thoughI did get some good ones in sci-fi for trading; my biggest score was in the vhs tapes, where I found a copy of "FotR", "Matrix", 'new' "Jonny Quest" and a copy of "Lady Chatterly" with The Bean. :)
I had planned to do more but I didn't feel that well, so I went to see Auntie and Uncle for a few (major stress there, hoo yeah) and came back home for a nap. For some reason my stomach feels very "iffy", not really sure why. I thought it was the Levaquin that was causing it but since I was done with that on Thursday, my stomach should be ok. I'll wait till Monday or maybe Wednesday -- if still no change then I will go to the dr.'s office *again*. I'm not really sick, it's more that the idea of food makes me feel "meh", and a little bit of "ewww, yuck." It's probably just a delayed reaction to not knowing what the ER bill is going to be though. *sigh*
