Welcome to paintedboxes!

paintedboxes is the graphics community of batteredhaggis. Featured content will include icons, graphics, brushes and tutorials. Current graphics posts will probably include one or all of the following fandoms: Band of Brothers, X-Men, Heroes, CSI, Supernatural, House, Rome, Life on Mars, Bones, Dr Who, Torchwood, Criminal Minds, Cold Case, Dexter.

Q: I'm confused at the name change...
A: After six years on LJ, it was time for a change. goodnightlady is the old personal LJ, batteredhaggis is the new one. Still confused?

Q: How do I find stuff?
A: Check out the community memories or tags. If you know you've seen something but can't find what you're looking for, jump down to the contact information at the bottom and feel free to send me an email.

Q: Can I affiliate with paintedboxes?
A: I'm happy to affiliate with your icon/graphics journal or community! Just go to this post and leave a comment with a link to your journal. I prefer text links or livejournal comm links (like this: paintedboxes) as banners make for a cluttered userinfo. If you change your username or your URL changes or you move journals, please leave a comment on the same post as soon as possible so that I can edit the link. Dead links will be removed within a week.

Q: Can I join the community?
A: paintedboxes has closed membership (so only I can post). You can, however, friend the community or become an affiliate using the above information.

Q: Hey, I can't comment!
A: If you don't have a livejournal account (i.e. if you are anonymous) you will not be allowed to comment on paintedboxes. This ensures that trolls are kept to a minimum.

Q: How do I credit?
A: Icons should be credited like this. (Note: you may name the icon whatever you wish in the keywords field.) When crediting a header or a brush please leave a link back to paintedboxes in your journal/community's profile.

Q: Can I use your images outside of livejournal?
A: No.

Q: Can I link directly to your images?
A: No. You can, however, check out Photobucket.com as a reliable image host. If I find that headers or icons are being hotlinked, I will replace the image with something suitably unsavoury.

Q: I asked a question on a post but you didn't answer it… :(
A: If you've asked a question and it hasn't been answered, it's likely because the answer is already present on the F.A.Q. or in the post itself. I do try my best to answer every new question or to drop a direct link but sometimes I miss things. If you're still waiting to have your question answered and can't find it anywhere, feel free to jump down to the contact information and drop me a quick email.

Q: Can I edit textless icons?
A: No. Unless the post specifically says that it contains clearly marked "bases" (editable icon sized images) then you may not edit the icons you find here.

Q: I love your graphics! Can I request something?
A: Thank you! From time to time I will open up this entry for requests. Check out the post for more information and keep your eyes peeled. Circumstances change and being closed to requests one day may simply mean being open the next.

Q: I love your graphics! Can you show me how to achieve the same effect?
A: Thank you! Tutorials will be offered as I have time to do them but otherwise, I'm afraid not. I will, however, tell you which brushes, textures and text I used and where I got them if the information isn't already listed and I remember.

Q: So tell me what the fonts are on your community graphics.
A: The swirly font is Marcelle Script and Marcelle Swashes and the smaller type font is Berling Antiqua. Both of these fonts can be found at DaFont.com free and downloadable in both PC and Mac formats.

From time to time paintedboxes will open up for requests. You may request up to three icons or one header per comment. You're welcome to request graphics as gifts to other users as long as the user is on livejournal and I will work to deadlines in those cases. (Note: If the requests post is closed and you're looking to give someone a gift, jump down to the contact information and drop me an email. There's a small chance I could fit it in.) To make a request, you're looking for this post right here. At the moment requests are open.
