The New Years' Furry Ball - So Close, I Can Taste It!
Hey, all of you out there in fuzz-land!

New years' eve is fast approaching and I'd like to quickly remind you about something awesome you can do to ring in the new year, furry style! You know what I'm talking about - it's the NEW YEAR'S FURRY BALL! Join us for one awesome night of drinks, dancing, live DJs, video games, great friends, fursuits and all around shenanigans at eastern PA's biggest furry new years blowout!

I've already made a bunch of long posts so I'm going to keep this brief as a reminder. First, the new years' furry ball is going down December 31st, 2009 at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Quakertown, PA. Here's the info on that:

    Comfort Inn And Suites
    1905 John Fries Highway
    Quakertown, PA 18951
    (215)-538-3000

When you call to reserve a room, please mention group code FURBALL so that I meet my room quota and so that you get a great rate (single rooms start at $110 for the night!)

The event is $10 at the door, plus $5 for UNLIMITED BOOZE ALL NIGHT*. (*Our bartenders are trained professionals, so they will cut you off if you've had too much or have started acting too rowdy.)

You can find all the important information at our website, www.furrynewyear.com. Also, join our LJ community ([info]nyfb ) and follow us on twitter (@newyearsfurball). If you're planning on coming, please pre-register just so we can get an idea of what resources we need to handle the crowd. We had well over a hundred heads last year and are looking for more this year, so the more info we can get in advance, the better! Pre-registration can be completed here. All you need to do is fill out three text boxes!

There's just a couple of things I'd like to cover that I haven't mentioned previously:

    What should I bring?
Well, there's the basics. Bring $10, plus $5 and an official state ID if you're planning on drinking. Cash only, and you won't be able to participate without paying - sorry, this just costs money. Second, bring a jacket or hoodie. Because of the huge cost of running new years' events and our desire to keep the price down, this event's at one of those 'rooms face the outside' sorts of hotels. This helps us a lot because people who want a cigarette or to get out of the party rooms to cooler air have a much shorter trip, and this layout's never presented a problem for us before, but remember that this event is taking place in both December and January (at the same time!) and dress accordingly. Donations of snack food are welcome, as are donations of video game consoles for the evening (for the game room.) PLEASE DO NOT DONATE OR BRING YOUR OWN LIQUOR. Understandably, we can't control what you do in your own room, but when you're in our rooms, we need to ensure you're of age to drink and are not going overboard. We bring a metric ton of liquor and have to pay for it up-front, so we need the $5 for your drinks more than drink donations. Please, please, please don't bring liquor. I can't stress this enough. Beer we can tolerate, but please understand we're going to have to charge you for drinks either way, and the bar will be controlling who drinks it - not you.

    Can I help?
Absolutely! We need someone to man the registration desk, folks to handle door security at the bar, and people to watch the game room. You won't need to do this all night. Please contact me at protocollie@protocollie.com to discuss this. We still are looking for one more DJ, as well. Specifcally, I'm looking for someone with a good collection of 80s, party rock and pop music that can fill a couple hours with the old standbys of parties and stuff that people can sing and dance along with. If you're this guy (you don't need professional DJ experience, just a big list of good music and a willingness to take requests and stay at your post for a couple of hours) then contact me at protocollie@protocollie.com. We're looking for a fursuit-friendly style DJ for this, and please, no carmeldansen. Thanks.

Is there anything else I should know?
This is a community event. Even though I am coordinating it (with the help of some friends like Skippy, Lupine-Fox, Roxikat, Littlewolf, Kohaku and Soma) we're all in this together, even the people who just show up, drink, and have a good time. As such, I need to request that everyone is on their best behavior. This means simple things:
    1. Respect the property of the event, the donated games, and the hotel.
    2. Drink responsibly. Try not to get sick, don't sneak drinks if you're underage, and don't get rowdy or out of hand. If you're planning on drinking, reserve a room so you can avoid driving. We're all in this together and if one person causes a problem, it will become a problem for everyone. Let's be considerate, mature adults while we're partying like wild animals.
Thanks for reading, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you there!

New Mailing List for Furs in 717 Area Code. (Harrisburg & Vicinity)
    [x-posted]

Submitted by caseyredfox to the PA Furry Forums:

Myself and sever other furs just moved to the Harrisburg area of PA and there are 7 of us living in the same neighborhood. I started a group back while I lived in VA for the furs in the area so I figured I would do the same here in this area. If you live around the Harrisburg area anywhere nearby please join and help us grow. My old group went from 5 members to over 65 in just one year and I would like to do the same here.

    Pittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!

    Time: 6:30pm – Closing
Where: Games N'at in Pittsburgh's South Side
    http://www.gamesnat.com

Arrive as early as you want and stay as late as you like! Games N'at also has the most reasonably priced snack bar that I've ever seen here in the area.

Shuffle up to the pool tables, get in some fast paced games of air hockey, try your paw at pinball or reminisce with a room full of arcade hits from the 80's. :) If you're not up for arcade games and such, there's plenty of room to sit and socialize or break out the sketchbooks and draw. They've even got a big screen television you can hook your Wii, Xbox or PS3 to if that is your thing.

Fursuits are welcome and tails and ears are encouraged.

So come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs and don't forget your art badges if you have'em! Show off who you are on the inside and let us know who you are. I know I stink at names. :)

For more information and directions, jump over to my webpage at www.swiftsden.net and scroll down to the Monthly Fur Meet section, or visit the Games N'at website at http://www.gamesnat.com!

    Hope to see ya there!

Thanksgiving furry meet, in Hoboken NJ!
As I've mentioned previously, we will be having a Thanksgiving potluck meet at our new place. The meet will be on Friday Nov. 27th, starting around noon, until whenever, and we will have crash space for the weekend.

At this point though, I really need a more firm headcount of how many will be coming, so that we have an idea how big a turkey we need to get. (Once again, we'll be providing a turkey with the usual trimmings, but we ask that in the potluck style, everyone please bring at least one thing to share.)

Please note that, while we've got a decent amount of room at the new place, we don't have an infinite amount of space, so if the guest list gets too large, I'll have to start cutting it off. That being the case, the sooner you let me know that you're coming the better, please. :)

At the moment so far, we have:

    Quentin
    Rex
    Fal
    Wolfgang
    Torsten
    Wraith
    Batty
    Watcher
    Wulven
    Shy (tentative)
    Kuper (tentative)
    Xerxes (tentative)
    Foxwell (tentative)

I think a few other people from long island told me they'd be coming as well, but I wanna reconfirm that. So, in any case, please comment here if you will be coming, along with what you will be making or bringing. :) (all comments are screened)

Directions will be sent out to confirmed attendees.

    See you there! :)

New Year's Furry Ball! It's only two months away!
Hey, everyone! It's only two months to the annual New Years Furry Ball (2010 edition!) and I just wanted to remind you all that you should sign up on the pre-reg list and reserve your rooms now! I can plan this event all I want but what's made it special year after year has been the great turnout from members of the local furry community and our friends, and we want to make 2010 the best year ever! Last year we had almost 130 people come spend New Years' with us and we're totally hoping to have more this year, because we really like underestimating the badges we need and running out. Seriously - it's like a hobby. Make our night, please!

To get the important question out of the way, ADMISSION IS ONLY $10.

Come celebrate 2010 in style (well, sorta) at the (kinda) luxurious Comfort Inn & Suites in Quakertown PA! The event starts at 6pm on Thursday, January 31st, 2009 and lasts until at least 2am on January 1st. The skinny on the hotel is:

    1905 John Fries Highway
    Quakertown, PA, 18951

    Phone: 215-538-3000

Room rates start as low as $110 for a single and go up from there, with some hot tub suites available for those of you who'd like to wind down in a warm tub with a bottle'a bubbly. Call and tell them you're with the group 'FURBALL' to get our awesome low, low prices!

Here's a quick FAQ on the event:

    Q. What can I, the entertainment consumer, expect from this event?
    A.
I wrote a long answer to this but I think it can best be summed up with a quick list: video games, booze (if you're over 21,) great friends, live DJs, and plenty of raucous merrymaking. Prices on drinks for the night will be forthcoming but trust me, they'll be completely reasonable. I promise. Even if you're under 21, there's plenty of fun to be had with music, dancing and games.

    Q. When do I have to reserve a room by to get it in your block?
    A. The cutoff date for reservations is Monday, December 21, 2009. So get those reservations in while you can!

    Q. Are there going to be activities the following day?
    A.
Again, I don't have precise details now but I'm going to plan a few group excursions for the next day to get people out the hotel and back on their feet, hangover or no. More details will be revealed closer to the event. As for the morning, the hotel offers free breakfast, so you can get some coffee and delicious food (really, it's quite good!) to start off your new year right.

    Q. Can I help?
    A. Absolutely! We're not a con, we don't have con resources, and we rely almost 100% on the generosity of our attendees to make sure the night's awesome. We could use a few game consoles, if people want to bring them by - we keep very close tabs on them and will have someone monitoring the game room at all times. Also, we need some 'staff' to help out with basic functions throughout the night.
    • Security - Can you spot a wristband-less wrist from a mile away? Have a sixth sense for people who aren't wearing badges? Do you enjoy sitting near a door and greeting everyone walking through it? Security's the job for you - you don't need to do it all night, but we need people to do basic things like ensure people have badges to walk into rooms and ensure that our "no ID, no drinks" rule is properly enforced. Also, you can help with checking people in and registering them!
    • DJs - Like playing music? We could use one or two more DJs to fill the night with thumpy, bouncy joy. Just toss me an e-mail at protocollie@protocollie.com with a demo mix or something and we'll see what we can do. Sound kit will be provided, just lemme know what you need available.
    So that about covers it!

    Oh, and one more thing!

Do me a big ol' favor and register your interest if you're planning on coming. It'll only take a minute and help us get an idea of who's coming - you don't need to pay now (in fact, you HAVE to pay at the door! How 'bout them apples?) You can 'register' at http://www.furrynewyear.com/register/. If you want to be on top of updates related to the event, don't forget to visit www.furrynewyear.com, follow us on twitter and join our LJ community! Questions or comments? Please email me at protocollie@protocollie.com.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
