I fought really hard to not post these images in my LJ, but sometimes, you just HAVE TO!

So earlier today on [info]blackfolk there was this.

not safe for work )

Yeah, I threw up a little in my mouth, but that was dramatically mitigated by the image of the old man kicking her up the ass. I was comforted by him. I love that man for doing the right thing!

Then, I found the following video:

SO VERY not say for work or life in general )

That's all. NO WORDS!!! Her daughter was the look out!

Jessie dropping the N' bomb? It's his mouth and he can say what he wants, but I have to admit that my respect for him went down a notch when I heard about it. I guess I must be the only one who doesn't believe in that word. My best friend R, used to work for the Mayor of Mount Vernon, the one I liked so much because I felt he did a lot for the city. R. told me that he was quite fond of the N' bomb to. I am so over spelling N' bomb out. From now on it will be the N' bomb for me. I'm glad my family never went around dropping the N' bomb. I really am and it's not because anyone told them not to, it just never really came up. It just wasn't in anybody's inventory of words. Thank God for them. I'm just never going to be able to wrap my brain around the concept that in any context that this word is okay and all the reasons I've heard given for it's usage just seem like weak sloppy drivel. They get the side eye.

I did a search for "shit" in my journal and got 15 hits in the last two years only. I guess I was a gentler spirit before then. Ha ha. The entry I was looking for with "shit" in it didn't even come up. You know the one I wrote last week about how people are shit. I'm gonna stop using that word. It's so grimy.

here we go. in my humble opinion

  • Jul. 14th, 2008 at 8:03 AM

You don't often see me write the phrase "white privilege". I certainly believe in it, but it's kind of like stating the obvious and while stating the obvious has it's place, it's generally not a mountain I'm willing to climb. I have other mountains.

This photo glaringly represents white privilege. A white man running for political office having this kind of photo published would be rightfully offended, but he and the people would recognize it for what it is and get over it. It's totally offensive.

Obama is NOT going to be so lucky. He's going to take a hit for this. The people who bought the lie he's a "secret Muslim" are going to weave this right into their conspiracy theory. The people who bought the lie that Michelle Obama, who is on a daily basis making all the sacrifices necessary (and then some) to help her husband become the next President by the way, are going to weave that burning flag right into the theory of her being a militant America hater. Who is that on the mantle? Well it doesn't really matter. All the people who believe Obama is in cahoots with the terrorist will probably believe it's a young Osama bin Laden (they all look alike) and believe that this image is probably hanging somewhere in his house. In a secret room. They even included the fist bump which we know from past experience that the educated people at Fox News, at least some of whom I believe went to college labeled it some "secret terrorist code". This is just not funny. The people who are buying into this stuff, forgive me, but they are not too bright. If they haven't recognized all the other lies that have been floated up to this point about Obama, they are certainly not going to be able to figure out that this image on a"big time" magazine cover is not a reflection of the Obamas and they are certainly not going to read the article.

Maybe we'll get a better president when we fix our broken education system.

I bet they didn't believe this one. It would cost most White people's current image of themselves to believe this one. It would cost Obama in order for them to believe the other one so that's why it will be believed by anyone who ever had an inkling that any of it was true who is not a strong reader. (that's a lot of people).

Quote from Michelle Obama Watch:

"UPDATE: The artist, Barry Blitt, is already defending the illustration at The Huffington Post:

I think the idea that the Obamas are branded as unpatriotic [let alone as terrorists] in certain sectors is preposterous. It seemed to me that depicting the concept would show it as the fear-mongering ridiculousness that it is.

Sorry Barry, not buying it. This will only give aid and comfort to “certain sectors” - and adorn their walls."

::::::::::::::::::::::

I am willing to believe that Mr. Blitt's intentions are what he says they are. This is where the White Privilege comes in. He doesn't understand our situation in this country. There are certain things that can be understood with good humor when they are about a White person that are not seen the same way when it's about a Black person and I don't think his images are going to be seen by a certain rather large sector that is going to cut across certain demographics the way he intended.

I really have tried to (I guess naively) keep my focus on the issues and strategies and winning this election and who is really the best man for the job. It really doesn't matter. I don't know if the Republicans are behind this or not, but this definitely works in their favor and it's right up their alley. This is what they do. They drown what's real in nonsensical propaganda that still seems to fly and it still occupies space where real issues, should be discussed.

:::::::::::::::::::::

Soldiers are dying every day and this is what we have to discuss. I was in the military during Desert Storm and came very close to being sent and I haven't thought about that lately, but last night, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about how close it came to being me over in that country having to kill people or be killed. I think that would have shattered me. I really do. I really have to thank God for the path my life has taken.

More popular is not always better.

  • Jul. 13th, 2008 at 10:06 AM
I just went through wordpress widgets and etc. They don't even really seem to have shit. That just goes to show you that more popular is not necessarily better. I'm sure there have got to be more than the things I found because I've seen some pretty nice looking blogs done with wordpress, but certainly not using the tools I'm seeing. The widgets are not even really organized coherently. Nobody wants to read a whole damn paragraph about some widget and who designed it. What is it? Where is it? Is there an example of it? Those are the questions. Nobody wants to wade through the muckety muck and half the time these widget samples are not even active because instead of the widget and it's example residing on the wordpress sight, it resides on individual people's pages. It's really low budget cheesy. Having said all that though, with some limitations, for example how the RSS is displayed. The fact that I can't get the Admin link off the page without moving the RSS which is not set up in a way that I find acceptable and a few other little bugs, I'm gonna leave it alone for this second and come back to it later.

You Are 60% Democrat

You aren't a full fledged Democrat yet, but it's likely the party that fits you best.

You probably consider yourself an independent Democrat. You usually support the party, but you also think for yourself!

You Are 4% Republican

If you have anything in common with the Republican party, it's by sheer chance.

You're a staunch liberal, and nothing is going to change that!

You Are a "Don't Tread On Me" Libertarian

You distrust the government, are fiercely independent, and don't belong in either party.

Religion and politics should never mix, in your opinion... and you feel oppressed by both.

You don't want the government to cramp your self made style. Or anyone else's for that matter.

You're proud to say that you're pro-choice on absolutely everything!

You Are a Moderate Mama

You're not overly political, and your views fall more with the American mainstream.

In fact, it may be difficult for you to decide who to vote for at times!

Your approach to politics is reasoned and well though out.

These I think are mostly off. Frankly, at this point, I'd be a little disappointed with myself if I was actually 60% Democrat even though I'm gonna vote that way. They suck so badly. I am going to withdraw from that party. I've just had it with them.

I'm also offended that I'm even 4% Republican because I think their beliefs are mostly harmful to everyone in the country, including themselves and I don't understand them at all.

I certainly also don't like being labeled a Libertarian mostly because I consider them a little bit freakish. We may have some points in common, but they are very few points. I think the main place we part is gun control. I totally think there need to be 1000% less guns in this country and guess what, murder rates would go down. How do we know this? Oh because the murder rates in places that have gun control is like a 1000 x's lower than ours!

I don't like being labeled a Moderate either. Are we getting the drift that maybe I shouldn't have taken these quizzes? I haven't been moderately anything for quite a while.

Also, Miss Pick is up and running. I switched over to WordPress (I was using Serendipity) to give myself more options. I like it. It's clean it's pretty. I think it's just going to be a regular blog. I'm not going to crazy with it. As is always the case with me, I don't have time. http://www.misspick.com

I get crazier and crazier every month.  Why is that happening?  Am I about to begin pre menopause?  Am I in pre menopause.  Literally crazier and crazier.  In a way that makes people handle you like a hot potato and luckily, I don't pick up on it until after the fact because if I did, they'd have to deal with that.  I'm going to the doctor today.  It's more frequent and the mood swings are unbearable... for me and others.  The funny thing is that because of my unexplainable aversion to tracking it, I never know what the hell is going on until my menstrual actually appears at which point all the crazy disappears.  It is no longer productive.

I AM having an angry, angry day.

  • Jul. 10th, 2008 at 2:18 PM
Okay, yeah, I'm having a really bad day.  I don't think we're shit.  That's over the line but we are so flawed.  That's just how it is.

It's not like I've never been wrong. According to courts, I was wrong about R. Kelly. Ha ha.

  • Jul. 10th, 2008 at 1:39 PM
This is the sort of thing.  I mean can you imagine the horror of losing your child and then the people who are supposed to be helping you turn on you and you're fighting for your freedom along with your grief.  We are shit.  We have no sense of discernment.  We just swallow what we are fed.  Sheep.

I am so happy that their names have finally been cleared in some kind of definitive way.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/10/ramsey.dna/index.html?section=cnn_latest

I never thought that story made sense.  I'm sorry but a woman who treats her daughter like a doll does not kill her child because she wet the bed.  It was so flimsy.  Everyone placed such.... I don't know how to say it... everybody turned her putting her daughter into pageants into something really sick like she was a sick person.  I always thought it meant she spent a lot of time with her daughter, money on her daughter and doted on her a lot and dressed her up and all that.  Being that her daughter seemed to enjoy the pageants, it made me think they were probably close.  If the father was doing these things, I'll admit I'd do a double take, but again to me she was treating her child like a doll.  There are much worse things that one can do to their child.

People can act like they didn't do anything, but I have no doubt that all the accusations coming their way basically from most of the country was soul crushing.

It's so unfortunate that no one has ever been punished for this horrendous crime.
Oh and also, some Democrats voted Republican because of the Gay Rights thing.  Apparently it's preferable for thousands to die than to allow Marriage for all people.  I do not recall the Republicans specifically taking positions that their constituents did not agree with in order to get votes.

THIS WHY THE DEMOCRATS LOSE.

When you do that shit, your own people start seeing you as weak.  I know I do.

I get like this every year, but it's happening early this year.  I'm getting off.  It doesn't matter anyway.  I've chosen my horse in the race and it is what it is.

I watched this documentary about the guy that the Seinfeld Soup Nazi was based on.  It's called I Like Killing Flies. Apparently he does not have most of the behaviors portrayed on the show, he doesn't even have an accent (except a NY accent) and he sells a lot more than soup.  He sells a great variety of soup and diner style food.  The one true fact is that he will throw you out for asking for modifications to his dishes and sometimes just because.

Anyway, at the end of the documentary, he says this great quote and I liked it and kind of brooded on it for an hour or two because I thought it was true.  The quote was (loosely):

"The first thing you've got to do is admit that you're a piece of shit.  Just so" People have to realize that they are pieces of shit. All the people everyone thinks of as "good"people are also pieces shit. Constantly telling yourself you're a good person is like driving a brand new car without a scratch on it, it's an enormous responsibility that is almost impossible to live up to. But if you realize you're a piece of shit, and you can do one or two good things for people, then you're ok."

He talks about the way America profits from the misery of other people all over the world and how there is no way to be an American and not be a piece of shit because most of our comforts art at someone else's demise.  I can't say it the way he says it.  It's an interesting documentary.

Someone yesterday told me that Republicans are better at pandering than Democrats are.  I don't recall the Republicans doing anything to pander to Democrats in order to get into office.  They just kind of scared the hell out of everybody with the terrorist talk rhetoric.  That's how they got those people to vote for them, but did they pander?  I don't recall that.  I could have missed it though because I was on a pretty straight course to wanting them gone and for people like me, there pretty much was nothing they could do especially after I took a look at what they had done.

Did they pander and how?

good assed quote!

"It is very nearly impossible to become an educated person in a country so distrustful of the independent mind."
— James Baldwin

so apparently, one of the two people who added me was a looney tune.  I am really going to need to read folks journals before I add them from now on.  Oh my God.  I believe in accepting people as they are so if I'm in a mood to add people back, I tend to just do it and if I stay and they stay, then I stay and they stay, if they turn out to not be my cup of tea, I eventually get rid of them or vice versa.

I found this in someone else's journal about him.

I feel a little grimy just thinking about him having been on my journal.   He also went on a rant about [info]obama_blackfolk that I didn't even notice.  How it was racist that it was an obama community for black people... ha ha ha.

finito

  • Jul. 8th, 2008 at 9:58 AM
I took [info]blackfolk off my filter.  Between the thing that sent my homegirl over the line about the subway and the ridiculously stupid article this morning about how Black women are responsible for all the stupid things black men do up to and including rape, I'm DONE!

It's horrible because there are also a lot of positive things that come out of that community but still...

It's a Tuesday..

A friend had a situation with her son that has just triggered something for me.  As many of you know, I have a half brother who is mentally retarded and I know that over the years, from time to time things have happened as a result of him being mentally retarded.  In his case though, he's so likable and social that almost everyone in the city knows him and likes him but there are exceptions.  He is free.  His mother is fantastic, she does not over-protect him and never has and he has been free to socialize and hold down a job (he works at Target) and just develop into the man that he has developed into.  Of course, he lives with his Mom and I think my Dad manages his money.  Of course, my father will manage anyone's money who asks.  He even tried to manage my money once when I got a little out of control.  I had to remind him that I'm an Accountant and no he can't (manage my money for me).

He also manages one of his sister's money.  She comes over with her bills and he sits with her and sorts through them and makes sure her bills are paid and her investments are on track.  She had a nervous breakdown many years ago because her ex husband kidnapped her kids and took them to Jamaica and yes, she got her kids back within a year thanks to her 7 brothers (notice the lack of mention of the police), but she's never been the same.  That's a whole 'nother story.

Back to my brother, he does okay and when I talk to him, he is so fabulous that he restore's my faith in humanity and we all know that from time to time, I lose faith in humanity.  Humanity sucks sometimes and that's the truth about us.  So yeah, when I hear about someone basically being harassed because they have a disability that isn't bothering anybody, it just bends me out of shape a little and makes me weepy.  No, it is not okay and they are not forgiven.  I'm not even sure of how my brother is retarded.  He has a million random facts running around in his head and because of the method of delivery, people tend to disregard, but you can look up any random thing he said and he's always right.  His facts are always straight.  One of the problems is that he never stops.  When I was a kid, sometimes I'd tell him to shut up... we all did, he literally never stops.  Now we just let him talk.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

something is so wrong with me.

I'm writing a note to my friend and I went to write:

If you feel this passionately about

What I wrote was:

If you this patiently about

I do it sometimes on LJ to.  I am also notorious for mixing up words like there and their even though I know their proper usage.  Maybe somebody stuck a pin in my brain when I was a child?  What the fuck is that?

Welcome newbies.
