Making dull pictures colorful.
Stock tutorial from this batch, requested by

I'm sorry it's late, I've had it ready for weeks and forgot to post it *facepalm*

Made In Photoshop CS, translatable.
1. Take this image from gettyimages, duplicate and set it to Screen.
->
2. Add a new Hue/Saturation layer and increase the saturation to +45.
Normally I advise to be careful with saturation, but in this case it's necessary to get a nice green.
->
3. For a more vibrant green add a new Color Balance layer and increase yellow in the Midtones (to change the basic color) and a tiny bit in the Highlights (for a bit more contrast).
Midtones 0 0 -16
Shadows 0 0 0
Highlights 0 0 -3
->
4. Add a new fill layer with a dark and warm brown (I used #311203) and set it to Exclusion 100%.
Dark red or brown exlusion layers give that nice blue color, that also, especially on scenery images, looks dreamy. Also try different hues to get different amounts of contrast.
->
5. Add a new Brightness/Contrast layer. Take away brightness to make the picure darker and more mysterious. Increase the contrast for stronger colors.
Move that layer under the Exclusion layer.
Brightness -19
Contrast +7
->
6. For the vibrant warm coloring add a fill layer with #f89117 and set it to Soft Light 100%.
Move this layer under the Brightness/Contrast layer from the last step.
->
(If you want you can stop here and get the icon I posted as #6)
7. Copy merge everything and paste it as a new layer (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E). Set it to Soft Light 100%.
I do that because I'll use a grey texture on Multiply in the next step, which takes away a lot of color and contrast. Using the Soft Light layer fixes that.
->
8. Add this texture by
Set that layer to Multiply 100%.

ETA I'm stupid. The first texture is by
You can choose either one, the result is pretty much the same.
9. For stronger colors and a grainy effect add this texture and set it to Color Burn 22%.
Move it under the texture from the previous step.
+
->
9. As a a last step resize this texture (from my texture set #75), move it to the left and set it to lighten 59%. Add some tiny text in brown and you're done.
