New Stuffs + Questions

My new lamp. I am in love with this lamp. I can't stop staring at it, haha!

My pillow with my name on it. Embroidered by my Auntie.

Shelves hanging by my bed. I really want to get some floating shelves.

And lastly, yours truly.

I just recently got new bedsheets and a lamp! Both from Ikea. I fall in love with that store over and over again, every time I go there.

And so, as for my question(s). I love my new sheets, but since I have a twin size bed, only one [patterned] pillowcase came with the set. Does anyone know where I can get JUST the matching pillowcases for my other abandoned pillows? Or, if this is impossible, am I better off making pillowcases from a solid, orange fabric? Tell me what you think!

Also, floating shelves - easy or hard to install?

Thanks in advance!

I totally agree, especially the embroidered one! and mismatched sets & folksy linens are totally in right now (heh, at least in the decorating magazines I read!). Stick with it! I think it's a lovely combo. Plus, the room is really nice, altogether. Great atmosphere & lighting!

It's actually a bit more maroonish-burnt-orange-ish color. I wish I could how the true color! Thanks!

I agree with [info]____adorkable, the cases you have go well. And more orange might be a tad overload with your walls!

I do love that lamp! My room never has enough light.

Basic floor lamps helped me out with lighting but then I got tired of the light that just falls from the top. But this lamp gives off light throughout the whole thing!

I believe IKEA does sell the pillowcases alone as well, if I remember correctly. That's weird that your set only came with one, though, because I've bought sets there several times and they've always come with at least two matching cases.

i have the floating shelves and had to take one down as it started crumbling and was very wobbly. however, i think it might have been due to the wall it was fixed on, and that my dad didn't put it up very well either.

Great colors!

The floating shelves...they can be sturdy or
no so much, depending on the wall. In our
place the wall studs aren't evenly spaced &
therefore it's not extremely sturdy. When
you buy the shelves they come with details
on how to install them for a few different
kinds of walls :) Good luck!

I LOVE YOUR SPACE!!!!

I have floating shelves from West Elm. They were totally easy to install.

The back of the shelves have little slots that hang on the screws that you screw into the wall. So I measured the spaces between slots and wrote it down. Then I got painter's tape and a level, put the tape on the wall with the level, and marked where the screws needed to go on the painter's tape. Then I screwed the screws into the wall where they were marked on painter's tape, took off the painter's tape, and hung up the shelf. Easy easy!

For me, installing the floating shelves was the biggest pain in the ass. My shelves fell a million times so I ended up putting a large nail in the middle to keep it semi-sturdy. I won't put anything heavy on them but I know that one day they're going to fall again.

I used to have the duvet from Ikea. I see so many people posting it here and I don't understand! The material is so heavy and uncomfortable. That's the problem I encounter with a lot of Ikea bedding, the fabric just isn't soft.

I was upset when I felt how rough the duvet was, too. I guess I anticipated it to be a lot softer in real life. But I have a regular sheet underneath it and then that softer red down throw underneath that. Then, tada! Problem solved.

i have the same duvet. i made my own pillowcases from orange, yellow, and brown fabric, but my walls are white. i say go for a darker yellow or a brown. orange pillowcases with orange walls would be too much.

ps. i love your room and ikea too!

Haha! Thanks! I'm glad to be getting an eyebrow compliment because I went tweezer happy this summer and messed up my eyebrows making them too thin and yuck. So then I had to go through this horrible, ugly stage of growing them out. And just recently, I got to reshape them and clean em up. So thank you for noticing!
