My 50's mexicana/ religious/ dia de los muertos kitchen is DONE!!
Cue the salsa music! I'm so excited to have finished my kitchen. I've spent a lot of waking hours working hard on this, and a lot of...well, not waking hours, dreaming about it. I'm so happy with the results! Even my boyfriend likes it (he's quite catholic- that might be why)!Thank you for all of your suggestions. They definitely came in handy as I was deciding where to put what (I mean you, Jen! : )).

It was so much fun to paint directly on the walls! I can't believe I hadn't tried it before this! Painting the backsplash was HARD. Very physically demanding- lots of hand and arm cramping and neck knotting. It was worth it, don't you think?

Thanks for looking!!!

Picture Key

1. the sink, counter, + stove

2. views from the door

3. the virgen- had to sit on the stove to get this one

4. supertall cabinets

5. my favorite pic

6. hot pink windowsill

7. close ups of the backsplash- sugar skulls and other assorted mexican goodies

8. the hotpink window, the marigold orange wall, and the fridge/microwave

9. the dishes i got today at salvation army for $1.99!! yay!

10. james' fan collection

11. finishing touches:

the spanish book that i used pages from to decoupage the virgen mural. it's nailed to the wall. it also means a lot to me, because i got it at this tiny used bookstore in portland, oregon when i lived there 4 years ago.

The second pic is an original by john slaby, a sweet little tire swing painting- james gave me this on our first christmas. it's also dated on the back with my birthday and he didn't even know!!so i had to hang this up. it's also the same EXACT color as the wall!

Hope you enjoyed and please feel free to comment!

If you'll excuse me I have some tacos to make.

Thanks!

-Frances

I love it!

I personally wouldn't put a religious-themed painting in my kitchen BUT it fits perfectly with your theme and the decoupage book pages are awesome!

My favorite part is the backslash but I also love that checkered windowsill... And it's amazing that the painting is the same color as your wall!

Neat! I'm sure it is very you. I personally would have choosen a light blue color to go with the green, but it's beautiful nontheless!

thank you- i actually was never really that into this sort of thing- it just kind of came to me...but it's me now!! hahaha the walls actually are aqua, it's just hard to tell in the pics. i don't like to use a flash so the colors don't show quite as well. but thanks a lot!! : )
