Blog Announcement

  • Apr. 28th, 2008 at 12:47 PM
It is with great pride that Andy and I announce that this blog will be shut down in favor of "Osaka Holiday Paradise," an affiliate of the Puroresufan.com network.  It's far from a finished product, but we're happy of the progress so far.

Despite moving from here, Paranoid and I are proud of the work on this blog.  Although not many posted their thoughts, we were always very appreciative.  We now hope you follow us to Osaka Holiday Paradise.

Thank you very much and we'll see you guys there.

Golden Week Cards

  • Apr. 27th, 2008 at 11:55 PM

Golden Week cards were announced earlier today, with some interesting matchups.  In what is considered a dream encounter for Bad Force fans, Zero & GAINA take on Hideyoshi & Masamune in the 5/5 main event.  5/6 is a rare six match card, headlined by an intriguing six-man main event of Tigers, Zero & Delfin taking on Buffalo, GAINA & Cooger.  The show also features a MWF defense by Condor against former champion "Kabuto" Beetle.  That day of course is the final appearance for Zero, GAINA, Delfin, Tanaka & Kinukawa before they go off to Okinawa.  One would hope that 5/6 is the May show taped for sky-A.

Zero & GAINA after successfully defending the Osaka Pro-Wrestling Tag Titles officially dismissed Bad Force and will now serve no affiliation. Zero also said that due to his respect for Super Delfin he will appear as Super Demekin for the Delfin Gundan Reformation tag match.

On the eve of the Osaka Meibutsu Sekaiichi Title match it appears that Miracleman has lost the title... literally. After a match the VTR screen showed someone exploding the title! Miracleman tried to make the match an ordinary singles match but Matsuyama's appeal was enough to have the match go on as expected however. Who is behind the explosive end of the title?

4/24 Osaka YOUNG NIGHT results

  • Apr. 25th, 2008 at 12:10 AM

The big news coming out of Osaka YOUNG NIGHT is the addtion of two memebers to Osaka Pro-Wrestling. Kazuaki Mihara (169cm, 85kg) is a Kyoto native and a graduate from the Osaka Pro-Wrestling Classroom and Naoki Setoguchi (174cm, 85kg), who is originally from Kagoshima. The two had a pre-debut sparring match and afterwards Daisuke Harada announced that they will make their in ring debut on a 5/10 Delfin Arena Dotonbori show.

Osaka Tag Festival 2007 DVD

  • Apr. 22nd, 2008 at 1:49 PM
Osaka announced that the Osaka Tag Festival 2007 DVDs would be put on the market, starting at the IMP Hall show next week.  The Tag Festival apparently is split up into 2 volumes so that could mean each tournament match will be shown in full.  Other than the first day and finals, none of the other matches were shown in any significant form.  A brief highlight package was shown before the finals show of the other matches.

Weekly Thoughts: IMP & Changes

  • Apr. 21st, 2008 at 9:52 AM

The IMP Hall card was announced and it's a good solid card.  The eight-man tag between Sekigun and the former Bad Force will probably be the best bout, along with the opener.  Zeus and Akebono has the obvious "freak show" attraction to it.  Not a real good feeling about how the match is going to turn out for Zeus though.  It'll be interesting to see how Zero & GAINA do in the main event and how much cooperation will take place.  This'll be the first time Gran Naniwa's stepped in an Osaka ring since Tennozan 2006, where he pledged to participate more in Osaka.  I would guess injuries have still taken its toll on Naniwa, but I'm glad to see him back.

As posted earlier today, I expect information on the annual contract renewals to be known shortly.  I don't think there will be any surprises in terms of people going freelance (i.e. Flash Moon), but hopefully some light will be shed in regards to who will be replacing the Okinawa-bound guys.  Hideyoshi & Masamune will probably still have the same freelance tag, but make Osaka their homebase.  Buffalo's situation might be somewhat intriguing, in terms of if he'll be under Osaka contract.  Keep in mind that he wasn't on the roster at this time last year and returned during the annual summer Tag Festival.

Finally, there will be some big news regarding this blog sometime this weekend.  Please look forward to it.

Upcoming lineups including IMP card

  • Apr. 21st, 2008 at 7:03 PM
Weekend lineups and the rest of the 4/29 IMP Hall card were released earlier. The 4/29 show has the Osaka standard 5 matches on the card with an opening tag featuring Osaka's young prospects from Sekigun and B&G and a big 8man tag between Sekigun and Bad Force. The big surprise out of the full card are the two "X's" out of the "Delfin Gundan" match being Bad Force's Zero and GAINA.

Contract Renewal Update

  • Apr. 21st, 2008 at 12:06 AM

April is usually the time for Osaka contract renewals and the first wrestler has come forward in regards to negotiations.  According to his blog, Asian Cooger talked with Osaka about a contract renewal before yesterday's Holiday Paradise show and agreed to terms.  Thus, Cooger will be making Osaka his home base for another year.

Chairman Yuji Sakagami has been updating fans on contract renewal updates on his blog, with things going smoothly it seems.  I'm sure they'll be a full update regarding this, perhaps after the IMP Hall show.

Tigers & Buffalo will move forward to face Zero & GAINA for the Osaka Tag Team Titles next week as they defeated B&G's Zeus & Harada today in the main event.  The B&G duo showed great determination, especially Zeus who came back after Tigers & Buffalo worked over his right arm relentlessly.  Howevers, Tigers put things away with a Tigers Suplex Hold on Harada for the win.

Meanwhile, newest rookie Kinukawa debuted, but expectedly had a tough time against Zero.  Kinukawa wore black and purple tights and did show off some lucha moves at one point.  Also, Tadasuke has firmly moved ahead of Robert Tanaka with a big win over him in a 3 Way Match.  The Xzibit (yes, after the rapper) is the vertical drop brainbuster that earned him his first victory.

Weekly Thoughts: Tag Titles

  • Apr. 14th, 2008 at 10:29 AM

A bit of news to start.....the March Osaka show aired on sky-A this past weekend, with the Okinawa Pro-Wrestling announcement added at the end.  The big news out of this is that Okinawa will be airing on sky-A when it debuts.  Still, it's been a week since the shocking announcement and fans still aren't warming up to the idea.  I talked about this in depth already, but Osaka simply doesn't have the roster to do a "brand extension."  Will Fuke and Tsubasa be participating more?  More outsiders or freelancers?  We'll see how the cards look after Golden Week, but the feeling isn't good at the moment.

What Delfin and company basically did was kill fan optimism.  Osaka was perhaps in one of its hottest periods in recent memory, coming out of Hurricane.  Kotoge unexpectedly turned heel and Tigers-Buffalo turned out to be as "epic" as an independent company can produce.  This all led to the slow burn face turn for Buffalo, who got a huge popularity boost despite the unmasking.  Fan attendance was better than usual.  Then, the Okinawa announcement came and the positive air was sucked right out.

If you take away the announcement, the whole tag title situation would've been huge:

1) Zero & GAINA just returned from BJW, successfully defending in enemy territory.  They put out a challenge to any Osaka team, leaving it up to the company to decide.

2) Zeus & Harada put out the challenge, fresh off the heels of forming B&G (which is gaining some steam despite the questionable name).

3) Tigers & Buffalo, with all their history, beat Hide'mune....one of the more decorated teams since 2005.  They answer the challenge as well, leading to the tag title decision match.

Now you've got a decision match....Tigers, who's been a mentor of sorts to Harada.  Buffalo and Zeus, who were Bad Force members at one point.  Tigers and Zeus, who met in the Tennozan Finals.  The winners go on to meet Zero & GAINA.  Think of the possibilities.

1) Zeus & Harada vs. Zero & GAINA.  Zeus looks for the ultimate revenge against his former teammates and wins the tag titles with new ally Harada.  Also keep in mind that Zeus is a former tag champ himself.....with GAINA.

2) Tigers & Buffalo vs. Zero & GAINA.  The ultimate fairy tale ending as Buffalo redeems himself from all his personal troubles to win the tag belts with Tigers, the one who helped him during his dark times.  Buffalo also gets revenge against BF for the banishment.

Instead, the Okinawa annoucement has taken a lot out of this.  Instead of "how's it going to end", it's "Zero & GAINA are leaving soon so we know they're not taking the belts."

And let's not get back into the discussion of what the rudo side will look like after 5/6.  The way things are going, we'll see Buffalo go heel again with a mask on....pissing away all the work done in the past few months.  And pissing on the fans, who basically went on this roller coaster ride for nothing.

It's going to be an interesting time a month from now.....and maybe not for the better.

If you have any thoughts on Okinawa and the future, please feel free to comment at any time.

Upcoming lineups

  • Apr. 14th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
Full card lineups for the weekend shows and a partial lineup for the 9th Tokyo Story show were released earlier. 4/19 sees the challengers for the tag titles decided between Sekigun and B&G as well as the debut of the soon to be Okinawa bound Tomoya Kinukawa, who has a tough first match against Zero. Osaka holds a special mid week show on 4/24 titled "Osaka YOUNG NIGHT" which sees the young wrestlers of Osaka battle against one another. Finally the final and the semi final for the the 5/11 Tokyo Story show has Sekigun fielding their strongest trio (Tigers, Buffalo and Cooger) against B&G and Dradition's own Yutaka Yoshie involved in a comedy 6man.

Tigers Mask in K-Dojo

  • Apr. 13th, 2008 at 8:39 AM

Tigers Mask participated on K-Dojo's Korakuen Hall show today, successfully defending the Osaka Pro Title against Daigoro Kashiwa.  Tigers only needed about 12 minutes to put away Kashiwa with a henkei Tigers Suplex Hold, perhaps the same one that put away Buffalo at Hurricane.  However, he posted a blog shortly afterwards about having some neck pain.  No word on how serious it is.

Despite a new attitude and growth in the past year, Atsushi Kotoge still couldn't defeat Zero today in the main event.  Kotoge gave it everything he had, but Zero dropped the Makaiichi no Splash to pin the youngster.  Zero did praise him afterwards.  The semi-final saw a preview of next week's tag title challenger decision encounter, with B&G defeating Sekigun.  Zeus & Harada promised total victory over Tigers & Buffalo next Saturday.  Miracle & Kanjyuuro had some problems getting along in their tag, leading to some friendly fire and Miracle dropping the fall.  They of course will meet at IMP for the Meibutsu Sekaiichi Title.  In a rematch of last October's IMP show, GAINA defeated Robert Tanaka in the opener.  The two shook hands after the match since both will be going to Okinawa after Golden Week.

Weekly Thoughts: Okinawa

  • Apr. 7th, 2008 at 1:12 PM
Seemingly out of nowhere, it was announced this past Saturday that there would be a new business venture called Okinawa Pro-Wrestling.  Not only would Bad Force be dissolving on 4/26, but Zero, GAINA & Condor would be leaving to be the front line players of Okinawa.  Besides the three, Robert Tanaka and rookie Tomoya Kinukawa would join them.  To say that this was a shocker is an understatement.  Numerous blog reports say that fans were still stunned from the announcement, so much so that the first two matches really weren't paid attention to much.  The aftermath is more of the same "WTF" thinking as it's literally turned Osaka upside down.

To start, Zero is a huge loss.  Criticism of him becoming a super indy moves guy is definitely warranted, but he's been a mainstay on the roster for a long time.  Fans still cheer him despite being a heel and he's always been one of Delfin's pet projects, going back to the Demekin days.  GAINA is also a pretty big sized loss.  Again, criticism of him is true (weight issues, sloppy as hell), but he's one of the more well-protected heels Osaka's had in a while.  Plus, fans kinda do like him for some reason.  Condor, well, he's not a workrate guy at all, but he's got this odd cult following with the faithful....proof being his blog and shirt sales.

Tanaka is one of the more promising guys Osaka's produced in years so it's a loss as well.  You can't send Takoyakida to Okinawa because his own character and look is basically built for Osaka.  Tadasuke probably would've been a good choice, but he was just put in B&G so that would've immediately depleted their ranks.  As for Kikukawa, nobody really knows how good he is or will be so his loss doesn't really matter at this point.

Plain and simple, this is a brand extension.  It's not like the 5 are gone forever as they will return to Osaka once a month for now.  Still, fans aren't exactly jumping up for joy with this.

So a month from now, this looks to be the roster:

Sekigun: Tigers, Buffalo, Cooger, Tsubasa, Takoyakida, BKK (injured)
B&G: Zeus, Harada, Tadasuke
Owari: Delfin, Kuishinbo, Miracle, Ebessan, Kanjyuuro
Remaining BF: Kotoge, Hideyoshi, Masamune
Freelance: Fuke

Obviously, the question will be how Osaka develops the 3 remaining Bad Force guys or creates an entirely new heel stable.  One would guess that Kotoge will have to be a part of it, or else his Hurricane turn was done for nothing.  Also keep in mind that Tsubasa's basically a Holiday Paradise or big match event guy now and Hide'mune are freelancers who call Osaka their main base.  Thus, you can see the reason why some fans are worried or upset.  It's also interesting to note that the annual contract renewals are coming up so maybe some information will be known then.

On a more positive note, INFINITY is reunited (sort of) this Sunday in the main event.  I took a look at Buffalo & Tsubasa's last match together, on what was a notable show.  Kotoge and Hide'mune oddly enough made their debuts here, but the crowd was really excited for the INFINITY reunion.  They defeated Azteca & KAZE in what was okay from the clipped highlights, but Azteca was pretty brutal.  I think an INFINITY run sometime down the line would capture fans interest as they are largely considered Osaka's best team in history.

Weekend Lineups

  • Apr. 6th, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Lineups for 4/12 & 4/13 were announced, after what was certainly a shocking announcement this past Saturday.  The singles match between Zero and Kotoge will main event 4/12, with a big semi-final of Sekigun facing B&G.  That'll be a preview of the Osaka Pro Tag Team Title Challenger Decision encounter the following week.  Sunday will see Ultra-man Robin return to team with Delfin to face the mysterious Kaijus....and it's not even time for the Rasta Man series yet.  An interesting main for Holiday Paradise sees Buffalo team up with Mucha Lucha to face Bad Force.  It'll be the first time Buffalo and Tsubasa will be on the same side since mid-2005 and something that's sure to please long time fans.
