Salute! Ok, I am not sure how your group feels about postings of this nature, but let me know if you don't want me to post these messages! I have an online shop that I sell my handmade products, it's a new shop, my bio gets into a little detail on how this shop was actually born. But I have listed two new items on my Online shop. Lunar Candle Fixed with herbs and oils appropriate to the Moon Erzulie Dantor Offering or Libation Bottle |

As I celebrate my Witch Birthday, the gods are steering me towards studying yet another pathway... Have been working with Yemaya of late, and would like to honor her for the help and strength she gave me as my father copes with terminal illness, and the family copes with him. I know that the Duck is one of her birds, does eating duck honor her or horrify her? I don't generally prepare duck, but for some reason purchased one anyway. If it does indeed honor her, is there a special way to prepare it? It is also way past time for me to prepare a new bag of bones for divination. Can the bones from the duck, if prepared specially, be used for this? My old bag is from chicken bones. Thank you. |

I was recently interviewed by Whitley Streiber for his Dreamland program. The interview can be found http://www.unknowncountry.com/dream This was a real honor: I've loved Streiber's work since War Day and The Hunger. It was also a real pleasure: Whitley is an intelligent interviewer who obviously did his homework beforehand. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did. |

What do you all think about whether one has to be of Afro-Carribean descent, or at least some sort of African or Hispanic descent, to serve the loa/lwa? Yes/no? Why or why not, and if you don't mind, are you of Afro-Carribean descent? Also, many people in other traditions say you know a true teacher from a fake by whether they charge money for teaching. It is my understanding that in the Vodou traditions teachers always charge for initiations. Is this true? What are your attitudes about the mixing of money-making and spirituality? |

How does Holy Week/Easter fit into vodou for you? I know some don't serve the lwa at all during Easter week. All replies welcome, including those about other Afro-Caribbean paths/religions! |

Hi all, I have to pick up some Abre Camino herb for a bath I'm supposed to take. Unfortunately, I no longer live near a botanica - the closest one is forty-five minutes away. I'm sure I can mail order it if I need to, but I wanted to make sure I had the correct binomial nomenclature for this herb - is it Eupatorium villosum? Thanks in advance! |

| I was just invited to a gumbo dinner, and the meat in the supper is hearts. I remember being told that there's a lot of ache in the hearts of animals, but I can't remember if I'm not supposed to eat them? Can anyone help me out? | ||||||

Hello, all! I've been watching this community for some time, and want to introduce myself to you. I am an Umbandista, and live in Oakland, CA, where I am a member of Templo Guaracy. I'm relatively new in my mediumnic development, but have found great comfort and peace in the work with my entities. I just finished a weekend vivencia with our Mae de Santo, the Ialorixa Tina de Sousa. It was an amazing few days of work, with our Elegbara, Boiaderos, Marineros, Pretos Vehlos, Baianos and Caboclos all in one weekend! At the end of the day yesterday, our Mae's cabocla confirmed that my caboclo comes in the line of Oxossi (I've been working with him for a number of months now without a confirmation of line). Anyhow, I'm reeling from the beauty of the work, and from the blessing of being in the Mae's presence. Are there any other Umbandistas out there? It seems like there aren't any in the group... I look forward to learning more about all of your traditions and works. Oxala Abencoe! |

Somewhat tangential, but I thought some of you would find this of interest.![]() The day before yesterday, Pedro Jaramillo, given the honorific title of Don and generally the familiar, diminutive -ito ending, was a laborer in Mexico who broke his nose when he was hit by a branch on his horse. The wound became inflamed, but one night he decided to apply mud to the nose to relieve the pain. After three nights, he was healed, and was awoken by the voice of God, Who sent him out to heal. Coming to Texas in 1881, he settled at Los Olmos Ranch just north of Falfurrias, Texas, and began to heal all those who came to him. He healed free of charge, in the name of God -- and on the frontier, where the closest doctor was a long, hard ride away, he was a Godsend. Some of those healed gave him gifts of food which he in turn distributed freely. Legend has it that he fed much of his parish during one particularly bad drought. After he died in 1907, Don Pedrito quickly came to be venerated as a saint, though no formal cause has been opened for him. He is quite popular now, and I've seen candles bearing his image in grocery stores in San Diego, California, and Austin, Texas, not to mention many a botanica in both states. ( Much more text and many photos ) |

Hello, a total newbie to any Afrocentric religions.. I am very new to them and have only been reading about them for a year now. So please excuse my newbie-ness if I am posting in the wrong place! I need some information on Yemaja. I was doing a meditation a few nights ago for relaxation after a stress-related inflammation injury I had last week, and Yemaja appeared to me and my head was laying in her lap. She was caressing the left side of my head, where my injury is, and singing and cooing softly to me. It was the nicest thing I've ever encountered. The day after, everyone said I looked better. I have been obsessed with mermaids and the ocean since I was little. I think this is Yemaja calling to me, so I need all kinds of information! What should I do now? Are there any herbal bath recipes I can use while meditating with her? Any oil recipes? Anything? Any information about her will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!! |

The last one was bad... its only when I spend time in front of the boveda. I was told its probly going to happen for a while since I am just establishing a relationship with my muertos and am not use to it...he also told me to try rubbing agua florida on my head when I spend time with my boveda.. I will do that later tonight... but has anyone ever experianced this? or is it just me? If so i'd love some feedback =] | ||||||||

As of today, there are only three spots remaining in our Vodoun track at Mythical Journeys. This track is not an initiation into Haitian Vodou, but is a weekend intensive workshop and introduction to some of the spirits who walk with you. If you're interested in attending, or if you have any further questions, feel free to get in touch with me or my wife Kathy ( |
