In all seriousness: Having your original work noticed in the online community is difficult, especially given the overwhelming attraction of readers to fandoms. Still, you've worked hard on your original ideas and characters (and likely a website and art to go along with them), so you deserve some limelight! This community exists to give writers like you a place to promote their work.

We welcome fiction writers of just about any genre who write any length of story. Authors who have left fandoms to pursue original writing are especially encouraged to join (I've been there and have experienced how hard it is to recover). Primarily we look to attract writers who are serious about the craft, who write well-planned, thoughtful, and fun work, but need a boost getting noticed.

No poetry please, and definitely no fanfics! Material containing erotica, slash, yaoi, yuri, and other such subjects will be removed if not written in good taste.

    How It Works
  1. Join the community. Only members can post.
  2. Claim your work on this entry so we can keep track of who is promoting what. Don't claim work that isn't yours.
  3. Use the Header (below) to post public information about your writing. (Locking the post defeats the purpose of the community.)
  4. Include a link to your website/LJ where you post the complete material.
  5. Use the Tag you were assigned by the admin on every entry you make so visitors can easily access all posts related to your work.
  6. People will visit the community, read what you have posted, and (hopefully!) click through to your site to become a regular fan. : )

  • The thinking behind the Header (particularly the LJ-cut preview portion) is that many writers protect their work behind friends-only entries or website login scripts 1) to deter thieves and 2) to deter indexing (as publishers consider material available in public/open domain as already published). If your work is protected, posting a preview makes sense, because readers may not want to go through the trouble of Friending your LJ or signing up at your website just to find out they didn't really like the material.

  • If you don't protect your work, including a preview probably doesn't make sense. You can use a fake LJ-cut instead.

  • If your story is split into chapters, consider posting previews of each chapter over time (for example, one every two weeks or once a month) to increase your exposure. (Posting too close together increases the likelihood of being buried by other authors posting their work.)


    Other Things To Keep In Mind
  • Feedback is great and encourages authors to keep writing. It also lets them know their work is being read and appreciated. Regardless if you are a visitor or a member, please say something when you read a post. In-depth constructive criticism is best kept for when you have read the full piece, but if you have some brief comments, be sure to let the author know.

  • Invite writers to join up! Nothing wrong with some free advertising, right?

  • Art is a great way to help bring your words to life. If you have artwork that goes along with your story, feel free to post it under a cut along with your preview. Art-only posts will be deleted. Only one image per post please, and please ensure the image dimensions do not exceed 650px X 650px.

  • No flaming/trolling. If the story isn't your cup of tea, don't read it. Flamers/trolls get banned.
