extend immunosuppressive drug coverage
I just took action on this issue and thought you might find it interesting too. Please take a moment to read through the information and tell Congress to extend immunosuppressive drug coverage.

Thanks for the link. I lost my kidney in 2004 because I couldn't afford my medication.

That is terrible. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I do peritoneal dialysis and this is why I haven't accepted a kidney. Dialysis is covered by insurance. The meds wouldn't be covered after 3 years and I have no idea what my financial status will be or if I will be able to work.

I was able to keep insurance for many years, but when I lost my job, I lost my insurance. Hopefully, things will change and insurance will not be a factor. I should be getting my second kidney transplant soon (my boyfriend is the donor!) and he plans to put me on his insurance so that I can always afford my pills.

Thank goodness I've had insurance at my job for forever and a day, so my husband doesn't have to worry about not being able to get his meds.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your 1st kidney. Was it from a living donor? How long did the transplant last?

I'm happy to hear that your bf is donating his kidney to you. That is such a wonderful gift. I donated my kidney to my husband 7.13.04.

My mom was the donor for my kidney transplant in 1997. It lasted until 2004, so I did get quite a few good yeas out of it. The doctors tried to save that kidney but there was too much damage. It is so wonderful that you were able to donate to your husband. I hope he has been doing really well! My boyfriend, Joe, and I have been together the entire time I have been back on dialysis. He knows firsthand what it is like to live with kidney disease. =)

My husband has had to deal with rejection twice so far, and I'm so afraid that the next time they won't be able to save it. It's so scary not knowing when it's going to stop working.

Luckily my husband didn't have to experience dialysis. We found out that I was a match before it got that advanced.
