Some news [Dec/6/06 @ 7:09am] shirann 1. Domain - I finally have domain space to upload the OHP to. If anyone feels up to making the layout (or trying to find the old one >_>), that would be great. 2. Subs - There are various people checking over the subs that we currently have to see if they are OK. Even if there haven't been any posts in the last two months, it doesn't mean that nothing has been happening. I am going on holiday on the 15th of December, and then I will finally have time to check over and post the last part. Lastly, I know that this project is taking an insane amount of time, and I do apologise for that. But there's really no need to be rude about it. If anyone else feels the same as the person who made the post below, feel free to leave the community. Let me remind you that this is a labour of love. None of us are doing it professionally. I myself have a full-time job, where I have to work from 8AM to 6PM every day of the week, and lately I've had to work lots of overtime as well. I know you guys are anxious for this project to finish, but there's just so much I can humanly do. I was starting to get really disheartened because of the total lack of communication that was going on, but after being literally overwhelmed with emails of concern, I have decided that the project will not be stopped. Modly update [Jul/9/06 @ 11:20am] shirann A few things. 1. Still no word back from *anyone* who is checking over the posted subs. It's just the first half of the movie, people. It's not long. It's not a lot of work. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, really. I'm eager to get this project done, so please... The DEADLINE for posting your checked subs is 16 July. That's one week from today. I'm expecting to get about 3 or 4 responses to this before that time, since that's about the amount of people who worked on translating originally as well as those who offered to chek over it later, isn't it? Excluding myself, since I already checked over what I could when I originally posted it. If no one submits the stuff they were supposed to check before then.... I will have no choice but to cancel the project, since it can obviously not move forward if we don't have this crucial part. 2. People who know me here on LJ know that my life hasn't been treating me very well lately. :/ But anyway. Moving on, things are starting to get into shape! I finally have the entire translation for ORESAMA. There are still a few rough bits here and there, which the 日本語 people will be sorting out. More on that in a bit. Once the translation is done, it will be emailed to the other-language subbers. I don't want the complete translation floating around before it's 100% done and checked-over, so please don't spread it around. I will announce the deadline for the other-language subbers as soon as the translation has been sent. Once you've translated your language, please email it back to me. Once we have all the translations, I'll post them up in the community, locked for members only, so that the softsubbers can start making their .srt or whatever files. fuji_sempai, the site is still down. footnotes to literal meanings [Jan/8/06 @ 9:07pm] blacktempest question to all the japanese to eng translators ;) and everyone else, your input would be great :) Just so the translation flows smoothly and so there's less work for the final edit, how literal are you translating? For example, should Japanese words that would be well-known to the audience be translated into English? Or left in Japanese with a footnote explaining the word meaning when its first used? some examples off the top of my head-- oniichan -- leave it as oniichan, or translate to "older brother" sayonara -- or translate to "farewell" And of course oresama -- XD;; I'm assuming we're leaving it as oresama, but maybe we should have a text tibit in the begining of the film explaining what it is for people who don't know? I don't think we need to go so far as to do soba -- "BUCKWHEAT FLOUR NOODLE" though ;) Hope I don't sound nitpicky, but I think consistency throughout the translation would be nice.
