About
A loving family after a movie, a common crook, a gunshot, a son left crying over the bodies of his parents. A promise on their graves to avenge their deaths and all those victimized by crime. The relentless drive, throughout the usual struggle towards adulthood, to become most skilled in all forms of martial combat and the sciences. The birth of the first truly dark hero.
Batman is one of the most captivating of all the characters in DC Comics. Even among the assemblage of heroes from various comic companies. He comes across as incredibly intense and dedicated, nearly obsessively so at times. With no superhuman powers, he fights in a world of criminal psychotics and deranged mutations and always wins. His mind is a finely tuned instrument and his body has been honed to perfection.
My personal reason for loving the Bat is that he can beat anybody regardless of what abilities they have. Even Superman, which has been played out numerous times to support this. The guy's nearly unstoppable...
...unless, of course, you saw that television show featuring Adam West. Every fandom has it's bad side.
I've always been a sucker for a good mystery and as Batman is known as the world's greatest detective, it was an easy choice. Two of my loves: detective stories and comic books. That and the audacity of the man, cornering other heroes that attempt to operate in Gotham without his permission, the territorial aspect is very compelling.
