Optimus Pultius - a 15-keys addition to any keyboard. To be used with the Maximus or with any other non-display keyboard.

Optimus Pultius uses the same principles as Maximus, has the same display keys and the same set of ports on the back (using one instead of two additional USB hub slots).

Availability: end of 2008/early 2009.

I'm hoping this won't be too expensive. I myself feel that an Optimus should be made that less than a computer. I understand how technologically advanced this keyboard is but new technologies should be constantly lower their prices. I own a G15 and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I am looking forward to buying this for next to it but not for hundreds of dollars. Keys on the Optimus Mini Three keyboard 2.0 cost about 61 dollars each and that is just not worth it for the average user. I am guessing this will be about 600-700 dollars. As soon as they release a respectable product under 100 dollars I will purchase it without a doubt. Heres to hoping.

I'm in the same boat, love my G15 macro keys and I'll buy this thing if it's about $400 USD (I can buy an entire Mac mini for $600). I wish the keys were closer together like the G15 macro keys, and maybe organized into groups for finding keys easier without looking (also like the G15). Basically, I wish it was the side macro section of the G15 but with OLEDs, three pages of macro keys.

What about sticking the keys closer together, and then it could be used as a dynamic number pad too?

Okay, normally I write "firmware" with an "m", but writing on an optimus allows you to make such typos anytime you want ;-)

Why not just make it a full num pad? It would only be a few more keys.

You could even have a calculator mode that displays the results directly on the keys or something.

We haven't forgotten the Tactus concept have we?

Not that I mind new options (this looks very cool), but we haven't had any news on the Tactus in months -- or on the Upravlator in, like, forever. Is the future keys with OLED screens in them, since this is now an existing technology, and the other stuff is on the backburner?

I am far more excited about this product than the full keyboard (Optimus Maximus). Not because it is more affordable, but because I like my keyboard the way it is and I want to add macro keys with dynamic interface to my existing keyboard. Please rush this product! I'd put my money down on this today.

After rereading all the comments I got an idea.

The idea is to make a small keyboard, which can be fully customized, including a num pad option. There are 20 empty slots which are filled with either single or double buttons almost in any way you like. The double buttons are placed in two slots respectively. All the buttons are placed relevantly close to each other, just as on Optimus Maximus. The double buttons have the same small displays as the single ones in order to make them more affordable. The keyboard should come with a set of 20 single keys and 3 double ones.
Here goes an illustraition:

That is perfect! Even 16 would be enough for me, but 20 (like in the diagrams above) looks great for calculator functionality. 30 spaces is probably more than necessary for most people (based on comments above).

PS - I liked the idea of the blinking LED (above), but even if I could program a key to blink (change color) when I have new email, IM or skype messages then I would be really happy.
