Optimus Gets Protection
Last year we've been refused to register the name 'Optimus' as a trademark in Russia because of the conflicting existing trademark 'Optima' belonging to the French division of Verbatim.

So we've filed an application to The Chamber of Patent Disputes to remove protection from Verbatim because the trademark 'Optima' was not used in Russia for at least five years.

So now we have all the papers we need for 'Optimus' to be our very own trademark.

Artemy,

After using the Optimus in the field for just over a week, we have decided that the Optimus is -not- a keyboard.

We have classified it as an "I/O device in a keyboard form factor".

As such, most researchers that have examined/used it briefly think that the price is not unreasonable.

"I/O device in a keyboard form factor"... in other words, a keyboard ;-)

Whatever it is, the price is super reasonable. It's a very special product - very special indeed!! Just imagine the look on everyone's face when they see the Optimus Maximus for the first time. The look is priceless and worth ten zillion times the price of the keyboard itself.

So if it is not a keyboard, why do the "researchers" who have examined it hide behind the anonymous tag? Researchers are supposed to present research that supports facts. Sorry but Optimus is a keyboard. ALL keyboards are input/output (feedback of some sort) devices. What do you think the little green lights are for? :)

Because the software is still Beta and there is a -paper- being written on it.

hmmm... interestinnngggg.... hmmm...

I suggest a democratic vote. What is it?

a) A keyboard.
b) Not a keyboard but an I/O device.
c) A snooker table.
d) None of the above.

Being the impartial ref, I will count all votes ;-)

The only idiot in here is the guy/gal causing trouble ie you (the one above me calling a person an idiot. This forum isn't about negativity which some in here like to express. It's about something positive ie the development of the Optimus Maximus. It wouldn't surprise me if you're one of those people who say the OM is too expensive - that's ok, you can claim that you've ordered one but we all know the truth. I suggest you go out, get a real job, earn decent cash, become positive and purchase yourself an OM. Stop being the depressed negative being that you are. It's not doing you any good.

Um, OK...

I'm the Technical Manager at one of the biggest Universities in Australia, the money's pretty good and it's a 'real job' IMHO.

I'm about to complete my Masters in Astrophysics (no really).

I -ALREADY- own one of the first OM 113s (typing this on it now actually), which is the only one in country - my unboxing has already been posted here but if you missed it - http://www.fullrame.com.au/optimus

Do you own one? Probably not. And I think the price is about right.

Anything else you wast to know? It's your cynical response to my original post that I take exception to.

Ok, you know what? I think everyone ought to kiss and make up!

It seems to me that the guy who made the comment of the questionnaire was having a laugh and the guy going by the name of carrot was also having a laugh. In amongst all this confusion our beloved bishop2k got confused. I think all 3 of you must kiss and make up.

How, pray tell, are you customizing it? I have had mine for several days and it isn't responding to the configuration tool at all. It's the 113 key customizable version (just like yours) but it's stuck on the default configuration and won't change at all.

Thanks!

Hi,

Sounds like you need a firmware upgrade

I had the same problem, assuming you are using a pc, just to confirm it is actually working do the following.

Power off the keyboard and remove the USB lead then remove the SD card from the Opti and copy the whole thing onto your hard drive so you have a backup.

Run the latest configurator : http://optimus.artlebedev.com/maximus/pc/OptimusMaximusConfigurator-2008-02-29.zip

Run configurator, click on the 'main' section under the background tab.

Hightlight some / all of the letters by drawing a rectangle around them. Under key properties, change the font to something really different , that way, you WILL know if it has worked! Click 'Dump optimus layout'

This will do a manual dump of the leyboard layout to the 2Maximus folder in the Configurator folder.

Inside this folder there is a subfolder called optimus. Manually copy this folder and overwrite the optimus folder on the SD card. Choose overwrite all if prompted.

Replace the SD card back into the opti, but DO NOT reconnect the USB lead. Apply the power, wait for the self test. If after the self test, the keyboard boots up with the 'new' layout then the keyboard is OK and needs a firmware upgrade.

To perform the firmware upgrade, contact artlebedev for the latest version, should fix things nicely or PM me: dale dot philpott at btconnect dot com

After the upgrade, it REALLY is the best keyboard in the world, it is just amazing!

Thanks to Artemy and the team for seeing this through!

Hope this helps.

This is kinda encouraging since I didn't think anyone will remember us as the SAP executive judges didn't seem to care about the idea and we lost the people's choice by a matter of few single votes (some say we actually one, no one actually counted the votes so its hard to tell).
