Optimus Maximus Shipping News
We begin shipping Optimus Maximus keyboards to those who ordered it last year. At the same time, first versions of Optimus Configurator software for Mac and PC are available at: http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/downloads/

Those who bought a version with passive keys will get their keyboard in a month (and our apologies sooner than that). It turned out that we have to produce inner parts of the passive keys again - what we have now doesn't meet our quality standard.

So expect to see more keyboards appear in your town :-)

Is there any indication if the Optimus will be moving to mass production, and hopefully a price drop?

(I'd expect it to take another year)

PS. I like clicky keys, the Tactus won't do it for me... well it will but I'll need a keyboard _as_ well.

You can buy a system for the price on this keyboard? Duh!

While I would LOVE to buy one of these keyboards, it is way out of my price range. However, I can assure you that I will have one of these the moment the price drops below $200. (I mean the model with all the screens, not one of the lame models with only a few screens)
Therefore, it'll probably be 7 to 10 yrs before I get one of these. In the meantime though, keep up the good work and keep making cool stuff!

Good, go do it. I bought a system for the price of the keyboard... AND the Optimus. Duh!

While you're whining, I'm playing with my Optimus 113.

Configurator software bug

Hi, I found a bug in the configurator - Is there a better place to post it ?
After starting the configurator under OSX Leopard, I see lots of 4K sized garbage files in the system root directory.
I deleted them in finder and everything is fine again, but it happens every time.

The PC version has a completely scrambled German layout. a-z, 0-9, "," and "." are fine, all others are randomly distributed. Of the wrong ones, some light up when I press the key with the same label on my normal keyboard, some are switched even that way. The left one of the two keys below backspace is displayed completely in red and cannot be clicked. The additional key (aka key 102), needed for all western european layouts, is completely missing. [checking with the pictures on the website...] Ooops, it's also missing on the real keyboard.

So: WARNING to all people who are using a 102 or 105 key keyboard at the moment. Do not buy the Maximus if you need all keys of your local layout.

Hi!

@ draftsman of 'Configurator software bug':

I had this problem on a WinXP home system also after I put the latest
Optimus maximus configuration software on.

But after:
- deleting the folder at C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\user\Anwendungsdaten\OptimusMaximus
- restart PC without connected Optimus Maximus
- restart Optimus maximus without PC
- restart Optimus maximus configuration software
- connecting PC and OM113
... everything went right.

So I do not think that there is a hardware deficit.

Just count the keys. Aside from a-z and 0-9 there must be 12 keys in the main block to implement a German layout.

Those are: (^°) (ß?\) (´`) (üÜ) (+*~) (öÖ) (äÄ) (#') (,;) (.:) (-_) and (<>|)

The Maximus only has 11.

The 12th key you will find above the enter-key on the right side, so it's only somewhere else, I can and will change my usage of that key (since I only use it regularly when designing websites).

Using cyrillic and latin characters all day, this is a MUST for me but my cutoff point is between 200 and 299$.
999.28$ is still out of my range.

I know dozens and dozens of people that are in the same situation (speak/write multiple languages) and all want this but no one is willing to fork over the cash.

Its ok, Im not mad, I know how the game works.
First adopters with deep pockets are a necessity in this business.
Hopefully its a success and then they go to mass production.

Until then, its stickers on the keyboard...

Deeper pockets are hard to come by these days...

The Optimus Maximus is the future of keyboards no matter what the cost today.... supply and demand will lower the price sooner than you think.

$19.99 was found to be the majic mark to sell anything and everything.

$199.99 - $499.99 is the majic mark for just about all electronics (entertaiment and compouters).

I want one and someday in the future i too will have this keyboard with all the updates. :-)
