how's it look on the reflective leopard dock, though? i'd imagine the shine on the transparent part of the key would line up near the top edge of the dock.

regardless: it looks awesome, I like it!

You are showing that the icon has a transparent center so you can see the desktop background through it, right? That's really clever!

Why not. All Icons on the windows desktop have individual shape with a transparent zone arround. Some of them have also "holes" in the middle. Well known the "e" of the M$ Internet Explorer.

Opera already has a semi-transparent icon. :)

Take a look at the shadow behind the red O icon on the desktop (if you have Opera installed), you might want to zoom in on the shadow to see it more clearly, the shadow is definitely semi-transparent.

Maybe you could publish some photo from there (for example, this) in the Wikipedia article?
So far, there are only promo photos which are 2,5 years old.

IIRC, the OM3 SDK is written in C++.

The Optimus Maximus will probably be backwards compatible with OM3 plug-ins; you do the math... =)

Will the Optimus Configurator software be available to people who do not have the keyboard? I'd like to be able to design layouts for the keyboard, even if I haven't yet bought it myself. This would encourage people to make and post their configurations, which would really help those who have the keyboard, but don't want to do all the work animating and configuring it.
