Congratulations! May I assume that a bottle of champagne was opened a safe distance away from the prototype after this test?

lol your picture makes you look like the total douchebag you are.

Do you expect to get a free keyboard because you respond to every single post or something? Prepare to cough it up like everyone else!

Amazing!  It's truly great that you've seen this project from a mere conceptualization to a prototype of what will be a real working thing.  I hope you're proud!

Considering all the preorders, shouldn't the keyboard be pretty much finished - rather than pretty much started?

The last time I checked, "working prototype" was one of the later stages of product development. What do I know, though?

Sorry, but I fail to see the significance of a color-cycling screen mounted on a PCB.

Show it with a letter on it (closer to real-use conditions), and someone punching it like a button, and I'll be more impressed. As it is, I see nothing particularly special that I couldn't do already with an LED.

It's a simple test just to prove that the circuit is alive. "Don't give a step bigger than your legs!" is engineer's motto; simple tests first, complex tests later. You can wait to see more interesting things in the future... ;)

LSGT (scan code 56)

I SEE THERE'S STILL NO KEY FOR THE XT SCAN CODE 56 (THE KEY NAMED LSGT IN LINUX KEYBOARD FILES, WHICH IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE LEFT SHIFT KEY AND THE Z KEY OF A STANDARD US KEYBOARD).

THAT'S QUITE UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE THERE'S SUCH A KEY ON MOST EUROPEAN KEYBOARDS, ON CANADIAN KEYBOARDS, ON ISRAELIAN KEYBOARDS, ON BRASILIAN KEYBOARDS, ETC.

ON A BIG PART OF ALL THOSE KEYBOARDS, THIS ADDITIONAL KEY IS USED FOR CHARACTERS WHICH ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON OTHER KEYS. FOR EXAMPLE, ON A BELGIAN KEYBOARD IT IS USED FOR THE CHARACTERS '<', '>' AND '\' WHICH ARE NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE.

WHITOUT THIS KEY, THE USEFULNESS OF THE OPTIMUS MAXIMUS KEYBOARD SEEMS GREATLY REDUCED AND, CONSIDERING ITS PRIZE, I'M NOT SURE I'LL BUY ONE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

This sort of thing will have to be handled by remapping the existing keys, I'm guessing. Maybe some sort of modifier key to add the missing key. You're right, though, it's a pain. It's not like its presence would've adversely affected US users (they could've just mapped that key as an extra left shift or an extra Z) while its absence annoys everyone else.

Remapping the whole keyboard isn't necessary.

If you take several versions of a given model of keyboard, the main difference between the American (U.S.) and, let's say, the Canadian version is that in the Canadian version the left shift key is smaller and the LSGT key is inserted between the left shift key (LFSH) and the AB01 key.

The Brazilian ABNT2 version of the same model would have this LSGT key too. More the right shift key (RTSH) would be shortened too and an AB11 key, with the characters '/', '?', '°' and, for Linux computers, '¿', would be inserted between AB10 and RTSH.

There could also be a few additional differences such as the form of the RTRN (Enter) key, but you can get used to such a difference, while a missing key is a bigger problem.

Should I dare to mention that the Japanese Hiragana keyboards don't have the LSGT and AB11 keys, but they do have a smaller BKSP (back space) key and an AE13 key is inserted between AE12 and BKSP? They also have three additional keys beside the smaller space bar.

The most important missing keys for me, as a potential buyer, are LSGT and AB11.
Without LSGT I'd buy nothing. AB11 is a plus. With LSGT, AB11 and the four special Japanese keys I wouldn't hesitate at all.

When can we expect the Optimus Maximus Configurator to be released for testing purposes? And will private persons be able to send keyboard layouts to you to have them included in the configurator? If at any time you start accepting user created keyboard layouts for the general Optimus Maximus Configurator, I would like to contribute with Spanish, Spanish Dvorak, Danish, Danish Dvorak and World of Warcraft layouts.

Damn, those keys look a lot bigger than I was expecting. Make a video of someone pressing the key down, so we can see how effective the stationary screen is.
