Sunday 200
It's been a busy day.

First 200 keyboards (to be shipped December, 1st) were pre-ordered in about 12 hours.

When the section on Optimus Maximus opened, our site was almost down for the first 15 minutes. In nine hours there has been more than 100 000 unique visitors (special thanks: Slashdot and Engadget).

Some people had trouble with the payment system - we'll investigate the issues tomorrow morning, during their working hours. No need to worry - we keep track of all the orders and those who placed an order on sunday, but whose cards has not been charged, will get contacted by our store managers.

Tooling starts today.

This is an English-speaking community. Post a message in another language and see it deleted.

Why does it still remain here intact?! I call for moderator's attention.

Man, that's obnoxious. Ok, herewith I provide a translation for the Monoglot Community:

Hail hail hail!

And the ENGLISH sentence is, of course, in English.

Are you going to make only 800 keyboards and stop the production afterwards? Or will there be more orders and deliveries after January 2008?

Sell buttons in pack of twelve (or ten for metric-system-counties :-).

The keyboard is really expensive, but it sad, that

"Every button on the keyboard is easy to remove in order to clean or replace."

Most of people need only some keys to be change in real-time. What about to sell only a chassis with old static buttons for about $200 and then the single buttons for $15 per item (or in pack of six)?

Fine. There'll always be kind of customers that don't care how expensive the thing is when it works perfect.

That ZPC is a PC inside a keyboard. What does it have to do with Optimus??

I have to admit, I was overly skeptical that this product would ever hit the market, but after months of regular updates showing that this is a real product, you going through the steps with the community and being so open with everything from 'Look, we've got a PCB at last!' through to 'We've just got our first prototype key!', it's a real eye-opener as to why this project has taken so long.

It's hard for things like this to get made, period., and I hope you guys hit 'true' mass production soon. The interest is clearly there, so you've just got to figure out the economies of scale (or palm off the management to a firm that will!)

Once again, power to you! I hope to pick one of these up eventually to do my day to day programming with.

You customer agreement has following words in the very end:

"Please note that the time of processing and identification of individual customers’ payments is 10–12 working days."

What does it mean exactly? That's a long time to id a payment

I could take the ugliness of the new caps, but the oleds themselves are just circus ugly. Especially on bigger keys (spacebar, enter).

Anyways... Better than nothing. God speed.

cost reduction
[info]gmiles
2007-08-23 01:08 pm UTC (link)
You could greatly bring down the cost of your keyboard by using a single resistive touch LCD screen under your transparent keys that would sit on a template of some type of foam rubber material that would allow you to drive the transparent key down to the screen which would detect the contact. Development of a USB 2.0 single touch screen would also have enormous uses in the embedded computer world.
