Optimus-103 Configurator
It is astonishing, but Optimus-103 Configurator looks simpler than even Optimus mini Configurator.
List of languages, program-dependent or manual selected layouts is on the left side of screen. Keyboard picture on the right side shows the preview of the layout (with modifier keys also).
Plug-ins (like Optimus mini three plug-ins) can be placed over layouts. They will be selected from contextual menu by right mouse button click.

but what if I press 2-3 modifiers at the same time (for ex. Ctrl+Alt)? how can I see it in "Optimus Configurator"?

If you have set this modifiers combination previously, you'll see the special layout view for Ctrl+Alt, for example. If you have not, there will be the main layout view.

When will it be orderable? Can't wait to make my own Final Cut and Photoshop Layouts.

Will the layouts be switching if the App is opened?

Or maybe switchable on the fly if not?

linux?

will you support linux by developing the needed drivers/software yourself or at least opening the specs so others can do it?

will the keyboard-layout be bound to the existing layout-management the systems provide? maybe even in the driver? (so that if the user switches the layout of the system the keyboard will change without having to resolve to your software)?

Optimus-103 is going to be able to work in some default state with any OS and it will be an open-source keyboard, SDK will be available.

The system default language layout will be also the global (default) layout for the Optimus-103 (we draw it as bold in list), so when there is no other special layout (or in the text mode in any application) it will looks in accordance with system settings.

Will it recognize the language bar in VISTA (and XP) so the keyboard can go from one standart (ex US standard) to another (ex European).

Second question what will be the screensaver on the keyboard like??

Third : what will hapend if the keyboard isn't recognised, will the keys be all black or will there be a standard key configuration inclued in the keyboard without the drivers needed ?

4TH : Mommy can you buy it for me pleaaassseee !!!! I'll be nice, I promess !! I'll do my homework !!! (uh sorry I was dreaming ...)

1. Yes. The system default language layout will be also the default layout for the Optimus-103.

2. For example, the screensaver (or keysaver) can be looks like starry sky. Or like that: http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/routine/2006/12/28/

3. There will be the default language layout (probably english)on the keyboard.

rendaarrrrrrrr

First of all, the word is "render."

Secondly, who cares if it's a render or not? They are images of the configuration software, not the keyboard itself.

Looking good; looking forward to when the final product is available.

MAC OS X

For the kind of prices you have for this items i really hope this is what you guys promes...

Two things, first why does Windows configuration menu has apple keys? as the option and apple key... kind of weird, and second, well not a question just to remind you that mac's funtion keys have default options already, and MAC's users use them a lot and they are not in that order!
F1 is used to low the bright, F2 to up the birght, F3-mute, F4-volume down, f5-volume up, f6-num block, f7-select displays, f9, f10, f11, f12 are expose keys. Me as a MAC user will like to keep that configuration coz it is just usefull, is ok for windows users to start giving that keys some use haha ^^ but for us, plz leave it like we have, they may change if the user press control, alt or option but not in main. you really gotta care about expose.

Also we have fast idiom selection, it will be nice that if when we use the fast idiom changer the keyboard does too.

I couldn't buy the mini three as i wanted coz is to expensive, specially if i live in mexico, hope that the optimus is not so much.

dont you think they just used some random render image for this? it's not like the software is already existing...

so... should I be saving for an ATI/AMD R600 based card, or an Optimus 103? (tell me the Optimus will be reasonably priced :D)

Now, suppose we want to use this keyboard on a product that is neither windows nor mac based, for example the PS3. Would it be possible to store keyboard settings in the keyboard so after I configure it on my Vista box, I can plug it into my PS3 and have the same configuration (minus shortcuts/hotkeys)?

I have the same kind of question, will the the keyboard have some form of internal memory that you can store configurations. That way when you go to LAN party or a friends house, you don't need any software/drivers, just plug in and play. Also a reflash would be useful as well, if you load up a configuration that messes it up, something that you can press to reset the keyboard to default state.

Amazing Work
(Anonymous)
2007-03-02 08:16 pm UTC (link)
It looks absolutely amazing. I can't wait to get one. I'm even more excited to hear that the keys are replaceable! Once it is released do you think you might start a public forum where internal and external (public) developers and exchange configurations for popular program, updated icons and fonts, and concept and ideas?

Also a recommendation for a plugin would be a way to change the keys based on what font I have selected. When you use something like Wingding Fonts you can see exactly what your going to type with out needing the 'character map' program.

Keep up the amazing job you are doing! You guys are great.

Aligned rows layout
[info]doub.myopenid.com
2007-03-03 12:48 am UTC (link)
Have you planned to release a version with aligned rows ? Unaligned rows is an heritage from mechanical typing machines, and a willingly futuristic keyboard should drop that non-feature.

I think that one of the best features of a programmable keyboard (and the reason i'm following your project) is that it let try easily new letter layout to make the transition to ergonomic layouts (dvorak and the likes) smoother. And for ergonomy aligned rows is a must.

Ideally you could put each key row on a slider and users could move them independently and choose between a standard unaligned layout and an ergonomic aligned one.

Window layout
(Anonymous)
2007-03-03 01:24 pm UTC (link)
Have you considered letting the image of the keyboard use the whole width of the window and placing the list of layouts above or below it?

I would like to be able to see as much of the layout (preferably all of it) as the screen width allows when editing a layout and since a keyboard has a larger width to height ratio than your average monitor placing everything else above/below the keyboard display would allow this.

Give or take a few mm, my IBM PS/2 keyboard is the same width as my widescreen Dell 24" LCD monitor.

Granted, not many peeps have 24" monitors *grin*.

Open Source information

2007-03-14 04:17 pm UTC (link)
As you are starting to develop software for the keyboard, it would be good if you could release some specifications and information so that the Open Source community (and other indy developers) can start writing for your most wonderful product.

I, for one, emailed your company some time ago (at least a year ago if I remember correctly) but didn't get a response.

I want to buy as soon as it's released (in fact I requested information on buying one for beta testing even) but cannot use it without Linux support. While I realize it will most likely identify itself as a standard keyboard ( it better :P ) by support in this instance I refer to software support.

PLEASE release some information to the community, or worst case at least me, as I would like to start developing for it TODAY :D

Thanks,

Todd
