103 Swappable Keys
Here is the most exciting news this year: all the keys on Optimus-103 will be user-changeable.

This means that we'll be able to provide several pre-configured options.

Possible configuration come to mind:
* Only F-keys having displays
* All the letter keys having displays (without numeric keypad part)
* All the keys (including arrows :-) having displays

We may have three type of keys:
* Display keys with OLED screens (what it's all about)
* Back-lit keys for the places that do not require displays (like Tab key)
* Standard dumb plastic keys

As well, we'll be selling keys separately for those who wish to upgrade their Optimus or replace some of the keys.

That is the best thing I've heard yet! I was originally concerned that losing a key would mean buying a new keyboard, but this is brilliant. Keep up the good work!

That's a great solution to high price problem!

The only issue with that is that keyboards are not going to be uniform and writing meaningful plugins can become a challenge.

Now, if I get this right....each of the key slots will be available to have the display keys(or any of the other 2 types for that matter), but it'll only ship with the 103(OLED) correct? So you could add the other keys in later, after purchasing the interchangable keys?

I think this is(or would be) a great way to keep the price down so most people can afford it, while allowing those that want the whole shebang to get it, without much of an "upgrade cycle" in development. I know it definitely solves much of the "issues" some people were having with the recent changes, but it also makes this a very long term item, and not just the term of the OLED lifespan. Awesome work :)

I personally would keep the QWERTY normal keys and change all the keys around them ESP the Function and the Number pad

i was always leary about about these keys would feel for normal typing being so flat so this is great news

What about B&W cheap-ass keys as well as the fourth type? This way things can get even cheaper but remain functional. People can decide which keys will have colour and which B&W.

103 API

I know the chances of this being read by someone meaningful are slim but....

If your going to allow people to customise which keys are OLED keys could you place something within the 103 API and 103 Configurator that allows plug-in's to see which keys are available as OLED keys and adjust the display accordingly?

That way you wouldn't have any issues with plug-in's not working because they require certain keys to be available.

Maybe even have an option to select where to place the plug-in within the configurator??

you keep announcing changes to the keyboard, and have you realized that the product has been plagued with one delay after another? i was really interested at first, and now this is an annoyance to see on blogs every other months. you have become an eyesore. i'm pretty sure this is gonna disappointing.

Congratulations on this decision. The keyboard has become very intersting for me once again.
As a mathematician, I want this keyboard to create a mathematical symbols layout so I don't need to use shortcuts anymore. However, since there are dozens of those symbols I use regularily, and I also need several letters (A-G and V-Z at least) I really can't have enough keys where I can place stuff on.
Count on me to order the version with all keys OLED.
